Reflexology For The Spirit

spirituality of one's health

What Needs to Go?

A woman called me yesterday. “My life is overtaking my life” she confided.  She spoke about things tying her down:  Her life is jumbled up. This includes her work schedule, her personal appointments, her home, her closets, her kitchen, her friends, her goals, her feelings, and her ambitions.  Her spiritual practice is caught up in the confusion.

Sometimes, in order to move forward, it’s important to offload excesses.  You know something significant is about happen, but it isn’t.  You’re doing everything you can think of, but things just aren’t going there.

A transformation will clear the way for the new beginning you’ve been working for.  Those things coming to an end can be reborn in the new beginning you need.

You know that it’s not good to just pile your future onto the detritus of the past.

When you walk away from your past and toward your future, leave your baggage behind.  This includes old thinking and old habits.

What should you do?

Set up an altar honoring your past.  Accept your past for what  it was and who it included.  Put some items from your past on the altar.  Include photos, or some flowers, for example, and some old thinking and old habits. Burn a candle.  Smudge the memories.  Release your past into the universe.

Be grateful for the past you had.  Honor it and put it to rest as you leave it behind.

Embrace the change.  Move on.  Words like old, outgrown, elimination, unknown, stale, conclusion, and simplify are important now.

Schedule some Reiki therapy or Reflexology sessions and embrace your new possibilities.

Make room for guided meditations.

And, finally, don’t look back!

Make a list of all the things you need to do to encourage your new life.  What’s on this list:

Make room for something new in your life

A new job

A new educational direction

A better diet

Getting more sleep

Spiritual growth and awakening

It’s time for you to do everything you can to open the door to your future.  When this happens, destiny has a chance to move in!

A Healing Heart Chakra Meditation –

Your heart chakra is the center of your energy universe.

Your heart chakra is a holy place – holding your ability to love – in all the many ways it can be described.

Your heart chakra is a holy place – holding your ability to heal – in all the many ways – heal yourself, others, all the people in all the places in all the times.

Your heart chakra is a holy place – holding your ability to heal – situations, places, the planet, the universe.

If you are working on yourself, your health, your job, your family, your community,  begin with work on your heart chakra.

Align yourself with your heart chakra.

Noticeable changes will permeate your entire being.

Meditation opens and balances your energy fields.  The  heart meditation  written for you below intends to boost, and cleanse:

Begin by finding a comfortable position in a safe, quiet space.  Close your eyes.

Encourage each in-breath to slowly and completely to fill  your body with oxygen, light, and positive energy.

When you exhale, release toxins, frustration, anxiety, and anything else you don’t need.

As you breathe in and out, relax completely with slow, deep breaths..

When you feel relaxed and peaceful, take another deep breath and visualize a light traveling from your feet to the top of your head.  This light fills and surrounds your body with love.

Finally, this light settles at your heart.  It has a healing green tint in honor of your heart chakra.  See the green energy spiraling at your heart chakra.

Breathe into this energy now and experience its transformation.

Inhale and exhale now focusing on your heart chakra.   Take these breaths as you focus on healing yourself, your life, the planet, the universe.

See these breaths balancing, boosting, and cleansing all things need healing.

Take a few extra breaths now to release toxins, frustrations, anxiety,  and anything else that you don’t need.

It is time to return to your room now.  Gently open your eyes.

As you return to your day, take another moment to ground yourself.  Feel the floor under your feet.  What does the air in the room feel like at this moment?

Breathe deeply, tensing and then relaxing your entire body.

Softly tap your thymus in gratitude..

You can recall the relaxation and feelings of love at any time during the day.

A Third Chakra Meditation – Strength, Warmth, Energy

I open this meditation with three different photos of a sunlit space.

My message is this:

Go with whichever one works best for you.  Go with all of them if you like.

The sun gives strength, warmth, and energy so you can access the power of your solar plexus chakra.

Relax yourself as you breathe slowly,  deeply.  Breathe in clean oxygen, air, energy, light.  Inhale slowly, and deeply to fill your body with  cleansing fresh air.

When you exhale, let go of everything negative:  toxins, anger, anxiety, pain, fear – anything you don’t need anymore.

PAUSE

As you continue to slowly inhale and exhale deeply, feel your body relaxing.  Continue to inhale and exhale until your body is as relaxed as possible.

Experience this feeling as it moves throughout your muscles, bones, your chakras.

As you exhale, release toxins through your feet.  Feel the toxins leaving through your toes.

Inhaling, feel your body filled with light.  – Feel the sun’s rays beaming down on you.  Feel the sun’s warmth and power as it blankets your body.  This warmth and power nourishes both your body and soul.

Feel this power give you strength and wisdom so you can move forward in whatever endeavor you choose.

Feel this power focus on your solar plexus.  Feel light and peace and  positive energy.  Experience the strength and wisdom in your solar plexus.

Now, breathe deeply and see  you are surrounded with a beautiful, loving and peaceful golden-orange light.  This light sends you inspiration.

Inhale deeply.

You may notice a spirit being joining you now.  Notice how this being appears to you.

How is this being dressed?

What color clothes does this being appear to be wearing?

What kind of shoes does this being wear?

If you want to ask this being a question, ask it now.

PAUSE

You may not receive an answer in the moment.  But, you will receive an answer when the time is right –

Feel the presence of this wisdom.  Trust that the answer you receive will be the information you need to empower yourself and your  development.

Now, stay relaxed in your golden-orange light as long as you want.  Bathe in the  light.  Absorb this powerful, healing energy.

When you are ready to leave this space, offer a blessing:

Amen.

You can return to this meditation, this spirit guide, and this powerful, positive energy whenever you need, by remembering this experience in the light.

Your golden-orange light is waiting to surround you whenever you want.

HOPE – a Guided Meditation

Hope focuses on renewal, rebirth, and healing.

Find a place to be comfortable where you can rest undisturbed during this time.

As we experience this meditation, feel the “old” drop away and “new” opportunities present themselves.

Leave everything around you behind and bring your attention to yourself.

Relax as you go on this journey.

Get comfortable.

Breathe in from your abdomen – slowly, slowly, to the count of three.

One – Two – Three

Now – hold your breath to the count of four

One – Two – Three – Four

Now – exhale to the count of five.

One – Two – Three – Four – Five

Repeat this breathing pattern three more times.

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

Continue to breathe deeply as you go into this relaxation.

Your relaxation becomes a blanket of warmth.  Sink down into this  quiet place inside yourself.

PAUSE

You are calm and peaceful now.  It is time for your journey.

PAUSE

You are strolling along a path in a forest.  Notice this path.  How does it feel under your feet?  Is this path a smooth grassy path?  Are there pebbles?   What kind of shoes are you wearing?

As you walk down this path, take a moment to feel the air on your skin – the sunlight shining down – gentle breezes caressing your clothes.

As you travel, notice sights, sounds, and fragrances:  birds, butterflies, wind in the trees.

What is your reaction to this place?  How do you feel beyond your body?

Strolling for a short time, you come to a clearing in the forest with openings to different paths.

As you look at the different paths, one attracts you.

You look down this path and see something shining in the sun off in the distance.

You’re drawn to this shining spot in the sun.  What is it?

You walk along this path that you just selected.  How does it feel under your feet?  Is it smooth?  Are there pebbles?  Is it a smooth dirt path?  Are there stepping stones?

As you walk toward the shiny spot ahead,  you feel layers and layers of your past drop away.

The weight of the world evaporates from your shoulders.

PAUSE

You soon arrive at the end of the path where you see a bench waiting for you.

There, on this bench, you see new clothes, neatly folded.

When you look at them, you see they are more beautiful than any you’ve seen before.

You remove the clothes you are wearing and put on these new clothes.  They are a perfect fit.

You walk up a slight hill toward the shining object you saw at the beginning of your walk.

As you approach the shining object, you discover it is a mirror.

You look in this mirror and see your reflection.

You see:

The person you have always known you were.

The person  you have always wanted to be.

You see yourself as strong, and happy.

NOW – you can continue to explore your new “you” as you return to this room.

You know you can return to this place anytime you want.

Taking Charge of Your Health to Make a New Life

Take charge of your health.

An important decision you make for yourself, it’s one I celebrate!  I want us all to become more conscious of ourselves and take charge of our own health.

Some of us reach this decision because of an event:  injuries resulting  from an accident or diseases experienced.

Some of us reach this decision because of experiences lived during the Pandemic.

And, some of us mature into this decision as an attitude toward our health.

Whatever the catalyst, deciding to be in charge of your health shifts your life’s path.  It’s a reason to rejoice.

But now, what are you going to do about it?

Sometimes people come to my table after deciding to be in charge of their health.  The idea is to give up the physician and replace her with a reflexologist.  Frankly, this is not always the best decision.

When this happens, you are simply trading one coat for another.  And, when this happens, you should be putting yourself in charge, not a reflexologist or acupuncturist or herbalist.

I have been in charge of my health care for years and rely on the training and wisdom of a nurse practitioner.  Not only do I seek information and advice from her regularly, I tap into her information bank with every visit.  She does blood tests.  She schedules MRIs or x-rays or other tests.

She offers information, advice, and wisdom at every office visit.

And, certainly, if you are putting yourself in charge, you may find yourself going to a physician or reflexologist or acupuncturist or herbalist as often (or even more often) than before.

So, then what do you do?

BUILD A HEALTH CARE SUPPORT TEAM

This is a group of professionals who support you in your search for lifelong good health.

My team includes, among other specialists, a Reiki practitioner, a reflexologist, a massage therapist, a physical therapist, a yoga teacher, a podiatrist, a dentist,  a periodontist, an allergist, a dermatologist, a sleep specialist, a  fitness expert.  a pharmacist.

I think you are getting the picture here.

LEARN HOW YOUR BODY WORKS

Buy some anatomy and physiology books.  You are embarking on a new and wonderous journey!

Don’t be  overwhelmed.  Anatomy and physiology books come in all sizes and stripes.  They even come in coloring books.  Try them all.  Especially the coloring books.

You may even want to take a class or two.

You’ll learn much.

While you travel on this wonderful spiritual journey, you are now on a path to learn things about yourself that you never even knew you might need to know.

Definitely use the skills of a reflexologist or reiki practitioner regularly.  Weekly appointments are preferred.

Homeostasis opens many doors!

EAT THE BEST FOOD YOU CAN BUY

An important step to take when you manage your own health is to eat real food.  A cornerstone of good health is the proper diet.  There are many, many diets out there.  Until you feel certain that you are eating the correct diet for you,  rely on   foods which have no additives, preservatives, colors, etc.

I’m sure you understand what it means to  eat real food.

I’m certain that when you do finally feel you are eating the correct foods for your body, you will rely on real food.

MOVE

Your body was made to move.  When you manage your own health, you know how important this is.

AND ON AND ON AND ON

The bottom line is that, as you take charge of your health care, you will develop resources and you will probably never stop learning.

Winter Solstice – 2020

December 21st is the Winter Solstice – the first day of winter.  The Winter Solstice is the shortest day and the longest night of the year.

Today, we celebrate the annual rebirth of the sun.

People throughout our planet are falling ill with coronavirus.  The numbers of sick and dying are so large and changing so quickly that it’s hard to keep up.

Find a few moments sometime today to reflect on our planetary need for rebirth, regeneration and renewal.   Reflect for a few moments on how it will feel to live on a healthy planet where all beings experience wellness and coexist to honor and support one another.

What will it mean for wellness and healing to become real in the coming year.  Expand your vision to include every living thing on earth.

Take a moment to release those things which no longer serve you.  When you do this, you create space in your heart for healing, acceptance, and positivity  in the new year.

Thank you for reading this meditation.

Guided Meditations get you to the next level in your sessions.

I learned about guided meditations in Mary Ruth Van Landingham’s classes at Terra Christa in Vienna, Virginia.  She always included a guided meditation as part of each learning experience.

When Rev. Dan Chesbro taught a class at Terra Christa, he always included a guided meditation.  Looking back on his sessions, I see now they were guided meditations in and of themselves.

I bought three books at Terra Christa: “Meditations for Awakening”, “Meditations for Transformation”, and “Meditations for Healing” by Larry Moen.  These books became part of every work day, whether I was teaching or healing.

The influence of these books on my career was significant.

As a matter of fact, I wore out the Awakening book and had to buy another to replace it.  The other two need to be replaced now.

I’ve bought other guided meditation how-to books over the years.

Two that stand out  include “Guided Imagery for Groups”  by Andrew E. Schwartz and “Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps for Healing, Harmony, and Purification” by Clemence Lefevre.  I’m including them in this list because they are interesting and helpful.  Each book shows how different and honest guided meditations can be.

These 2 books each have a different approach to guided meditations.  Through the years, even though I wore out the Larry Moen books, it was important to me to expand my boundaries and use different information.  That’s how I learned.

Somehow, my learning path included one short class about writing my own guided meditations.  I took an End-of-Life Class at the New York Open Center.  Henry Fersco-Weiss taught this class over a weekend.   He included a short instruction about creating a guided meditation.  It was all I needed.

I knew after that short segment that I could do this on my own.   Even though I’ve written many guided meditations, I always return to Larry Moen’s books.  Specifically, I like to select “Lagoon” on page 20 of “Meditations for Awakening.”  I always go to this meditation in my Reiki 1 classes.

But, when you get into guided meditations, the choices are many.

I hope you’ll be motivated to incorporate guided meditations at every opportunity.

Your Own Guided Meditation: Relax and Enjoy the Journey

A guided meditation awakens, transforms, heals.   It  creates a journey  so you can fulfill a purpose or reach a goal or answer a question of some kind.  In short, a guided meditation helps you solve a problem you may be experiencing.

Many guided meditations use quiet, calming music to support your journey.  I like  music which doesn’t have abrupt changes.  Whatever music you use, you need something which will not  interfere with your visualization.

Guided meditations work well in groups with one person reading or speaking the meditation aloud.  They also work well for a person alone who reads the meditation or who is listening to it on an audio device.

The best time for a guided meditation is whenever or wherever it works best for you.

Don’t worry if you feel you have fallen asleep during your meditation.  Usually, you have not.

Pauses guide and pace the journey.  They can occur throughout a meditation.  How many, and how long each one is depends on the meditation and the group.  I like to schedule the pauses in the meditation when I  design it.  .

Breathing tempo is established at the beginning of each meditation.  Many people do not breathe deeply enough.  Although shallow breathing is common, meditations call for deeper, slower breathing.  Belly breathing is part of the event.  I set the breathing tempo early in the meditation.

A first step in a guided meditation is to spend a few moments encouraging your recipients to get comfortable.  Try not to rush this part.  Many people are not comfortable in their bodies and may not recognize when they are comfortable – not for a few moments anyway.

Then, the scene emerges.  This can be in a secret room, in a meadow, on the edge of a lake, an the foot of a mountain.  The scene is described.  Meditation recipients are often invited to add their own details mentally as they listen to the unfolding  journey.

After the introduction which sets the scene, the meditation generally involves a journey…walking down a path, riding a canoe on a lake, taking a trip on a balloon.  Again, a few moments are taken to include details.  Descriptive paragraphs tell the story as it unfolds.  And, again, your meditation recipients are often invited to add their own details through their thoughts.

Sometimes, a guided meditation may introduce a character – an angel, a wise elder, one’s inner child.  This character’s job is to listen to any questions a person may have and offer an answer or response which may be received during the meditation or at some time later in the day or even the next day.

With a guided meditation, you and your recipient’s  job is to relax and enjoy the journey.  You reach your destination when you receive an answer or solution.

The final step allows a recipient to slowly return to the present moment knowing that she can return to the meditation at any time.  There is no rush.

Assure your recipients that they can return to this meditation whenever they desire.  It is time to stretch, yawn, open eyes, and return to the present moment.
