Insomnia – 10 Things You Can Do To Sleep Better.

According to Michael Murray, N.D., and Joseph Pizzorno, N.D., thirty percent of us suffer from insomnia. The main causes of insomnia are depression, anxiety, stress, foods, drinks, and medications.
There are things you can do to sleep better:
Reflexology for the Spirit sessions definitely help.
Cut out the caffeine.
Limit the alcohol.
Ask your healthcare professional if any of the drugs you take can inhibit your sleep cycles.
Look around your bedroom. Is there too much going on: TV? Computer?
Is your bed comfortable?
Make sure you have the correct pillows: Are there enough of them? Are they comfortable? Are you allergic to the pillows themselves? Are they clean?
What about the room temperature? Is your bedroom too hot or too cold?
For me, the best sedative I know of is Reiki therapy. When I go to bed at night, if I can’t sleep, I offer myself a Reiki session. I’m always asleep before I finish the session.
If you don’t know Reiki therapy, find yourself a teacher and learn. No one ever fails a Reiki class. The classes are usually no more than a day long. You probably won’t need more than Reiki 1. However, if you can work in a Reiki 2 class, so much the better for you.
WORK THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS WHEN ADDRESSING INSOMNIA: Work the endocrine system focusing on the pituitary gland reflexes, the thyroid and parathyroid gland reflexes; work the respiratory system focusing on the lung reflexes; work the urinary system, focusing on the kidney reflexes; work the nervous system, focusing on the spine reflexes. End the session by working the solar plexus and liver.

Shingles – a Painful, Viral Infection we can all do without.

Shingles definitely has a spiritual aspect. As with some other spiritual afflictions, shingles is a response to fear and tension. People with this problem need to work on believing in the process of life, that all is well.
Physically, Shingles is a painful infection of the nerve endings. It manifests itself as a rash lasting from 2 to 4 weeks and usually appears on one side of the face or body. This rash can be quite painful.
This affliction occurs when a person has had chicken pox many years before. And, finally, in later life it resurfaces. Shingles is not contagious.
One thing everyone can do to prevent this very painful disease is get a shingles vaccine. I realize that vaccines are very controversial but I also feel strongly that Shingles is one disease I never want to experience. Better the shot. Research tells me that of the shingles vaccines administered, no serious problems have been identified.
Also, please note: Research tells me that a shingles vaccine is not administered to anyone under 50 years of age.
WORK THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS WHEN ADDRESSING SHINGLES: Work the nervous system focusing on the solar plexus and diaphragm reflexes. Work the skeletal system focusing on the spinal reflexes. Work the immune system, focusing on the lymphatic system.
Reflexology for the Spirit is a real help with shingles because the body goes out of balance as it works to fight infection. Reflexology for the Spirit to encourage homeostasis is helpful.

Fibromyalgia – a 21st Century Disease: 3 Things That Help & 3 Things To Avoid

Fibromyalgia sufferers have a whole list of symptoms: fatigue, headache, swollen joints, irritable bowel syndrome, numbing/tingling sensations, sleeplessness, etc.
As if that’s not enough, people with fibromyalgia often suffer with depression because their daily lives are such a struggle. They complain of lacking the strength to keep going.
And, as if that’s not enough, many people suffering with fibromyalgia have made the rounds in the medical community and at least one medical professional has told them their problems are not real; that their disease is totally in their head.
Fibromyalgia is the new kid on the block as diseases go. That’s how it goes when you’re suffering with a disease that’s the new kid on the block.
I have some opinions about fibromyalgia. It may be that many of you will disagree with them. That’s perfectly okay. In fact, I invite you to comment.
My opinions are these:
Fibromyalgia is a real disease.
One component of the disease is the sensitivity the sufferer has toward the toxins in our daily lives. I feel that Fibromyalgia sufferers are sensitive to things like unclean air, unclean food, unclean water.
Three things help in the battle with Fibromyalgia: Swedish massage, restorative yoga, Reflexology for the Spirit.
In my opinion, there are three things to avoid: Deep massage of any kind, all forms of yoga except restorative, and the depressive thoughts accompanying this struggle which is Fibromyalgia.
One effort in its own category is cleaning up one’s diet and environment. This clean up effort takes both time and effort.
Fibromyalgia is definitely a spiritual disease. Reflexology for the Spirit sessions offer a return to homeostasis and a positive time for the sufferer. Both things are badly needed.

Reflexology Blog: Nervous System Bottom Line – 6 Important Things To Remember

The nervous system is a booster system in Reflexology for the Spirit sessions and should be worked whenever you seek to resolve an issue for a client.
Reflex the brain and spinal column within the first few minutes of a session.
Combining a focus on the nervous system and the immune system in a session can result in powerful things happening.
When you reflex the nervous system, you communicate with the energetic body. The spiritual implications of this can be profound.
People with nervous system issues sometimes overload the channels of communications. When they open their hearts to loving communications, they can feel safe and well.
Working the toes and arches and arches has a calming effect on the nervous system, offering soothing feelings to the nerves. This encourages homeostasis.
Working the nervous system facilitates a change of mind and a better attitude toward life.
When people are nervous, they feel fear, anxiety, rushing thoughts. In this state, it’s hard to trust the processes of life. Working the nervous system allows people to communicate with their hearts.
In our next post, we’re going to focus on essential oils used in sessions for the nervous system.

Reflexology Blog – Bladder Infections Can be Spiritual Afflictions – 3 Things You Can Do To Avoid Infections

There are many kinds of bladder problems.  This post focuses on bladder infections because we’re examining the immune system.

Bladder infections are just one more in a long list of spiritual afflictions.  People develop bladder infections when they have a fear of letting something from the past go.  When this fear occurs, the person can develop anxiety over the issue.

Bladder infections can be very troublesome:  pain, frequent urination, etc.  Never ignore these symptoms.

Prevention helps.  People experiencing repeat bladder infections can do several things to try to prevent frequent recurrence of these infections.

Drinking lots of fluids helps.  The goal is to wash germs found in kidneys, ureters, bladder, and bloodstream.  Include cranberry juice in your diet.

Improving sanitary habits is necessary.  Frequent bathing helps.  Wiping from the front of the body to the back after urination is important also.

Bladder infections have a way of showing up when a person’s stress level is high and resistance level is low.    Do what you can to release old issues and welcome new   things in your life.

When addressing bladder infections, work the immune system, the spleen reflex,  adrenal gland reflexes, kidney reflexes, bladder reflex,  lymphatics, liver, and solar plexus.

30 Essential Oils to Choose From When Addressing Immune System Issues

There are many, many essential oils out there.  How do you decide?  One way is to just go for the name that appeals to you.  Another is to put out a drop and see if the aroma appeals to you.  But, whichever oil you choose from this list, you can’t go wrong.  These oils all have a proven track record when it comes to addressing immune system issues:

balsam fir, blue cypress, Canadian red cedar, clove, dill, eucalyptus radiata, frankincense, galbanum, grapefruit, hyssop, lemon, mountain savory, myrtle, nutmeg, orange, oregano, patchouli, peppermint, raven, ravensara, sandalwood, tarragon, thyme, tsuga, valerian, wintergreen,

Begin by choosing an oil and dilute it 50/50 with a  vegetable oil which will be the carrier oil.  Apply a small amount of the oil to the skin and see if there is a reaction.  If not, use this oil.  Oils vary in effectiveness from person to person because they work with a person’s body chemistry and every body is different..

There are many, many different ways to  use essential oils.  You have to find out what is going to work for you in each specific situation.  To begin, try putting a few drops of an essential oil on a cloth or on a rug and let it work throughout the room.

I’ll be writing more about essential oils as we go through the book.  This is basically a book about reflexology for the spirit but reflexology is compatible with so many different modalities that reflexologists end up with very large “tool kits” before they are through learning.

Actually, reflexologists never stop learning.   That’s the beauty of the modality.

Our next blog post will  address foods that nourish the immune system.  Then, in follow on posts, we’ll address several conditions which can offer challenges to the immune system.

Thanks for following this blog/book.  Please contact me if you have any comments/questions.

The Immune System Bottom Line: 4 Important Things to Remember

THE BOTTOM LINE

The immune system makes an important contribution to our wellness.  There are emotional and spiritual components to the immune system which cannot be ignored.

Some diseases offer challenges and struggles which insist that the ill person examine his/her lifestyle, core beliefs, and connection with the divine.

This whole path to wellness:  living with the disease or succumbing to it is facilitated with the homeostasis which Reflexology for the Spirit sessions bring about.

Work the immune system and the nervous system very early in the session.  The nervous system combined with the immune system becomes a booster system and they should always be used when you’re trying to resolve a health issue for someone.  These two systems combined facilitate homeostasis.  The two systems together can offer significant changes.

Thank you for reading this post and for reading this blog/book.  Please contact me if you have any questions.

The next post will focus on essential oils which benefit the immune system and will list the foods that nourish the immune system.  Following that, we will focus on some specific diseases such as the common cold, flu, bladder problems, etc.

As always, this post comes to you from my healing space in downtown Woodstock.

Don’t like Getting Colds, Flu? Take Care of Your Immune System. It Keeps You Well.

In the last post, we discussed the lymphatics.

The lymph glands need exercise.  A good exercise for moving the lymph is to jump for a few minutes each day on a personal trampoline.  A personal trampoline is inexpensive, folds flat, and fits under a bed or in a closet when not being used.

Another good way to keep the lymph moving is to receive Reflexology for the Spirit sessions regularly.  When the immune system is  stimulated the lymph moves.

Keep the lymphatic system moving so the body can remove the clogging waste products which make it harder to fight colds, flu, respiratory congestion, swollen lymph nodes, stiff joints, cysts, slow healing wounds, etc.  Thank of a stagnant lymph system as a clogged sewer.

If the immune system is not properly maintained, and never cleaned, the body may end up with problems extending beyond colds, flu and other things.  This escalation can include problems such as arthritis, autoimmune diseases, and possibly cancer.

Another major part of the immune system is the thymus.  This is a small gland located in the chest cavity below the thyroid and behind the sternum.  The thymus gland manufactures T-Cells which strengthen our immune system.  One thing that makes the thymus interesting is that it’s a particular size when we are born and doesn’t grow much after that.  So, the size of the thymus in relation to the size of our bodies decreases as our bodies grow into maturity.

Thanks for reading today’s post which comes to you from my healing space in scenic downtown Woodstock, NY.

Tomorrow we’ll continue with the immune system as we discuss the tonsils and the spleen.

A Canoe and an Angel – A Guided Meditation

Page0002 (2)This meditation is for you to use…to read to yourself, to use with your client partner at the beginning of a session…or whenever it feels like a good idea to have a guided meditation.

Make yourself comfortable.  Relax.  Imagine that you are lying in a beautiful canoe filled with cushions.  The small boat is just the right size for you.  There is no room for anyone or anything else in this canoe.  There is just room enough for you to just “be you”.  Nothing more.

You are lying in this canoe in the middle of a beautiful pond.  The water in the pond is still, clean, peaceful.  Let your body become heavy.  Sink into the cushions.  You are lying in your canoe in the middle of the pond.  Notice the space around you.  Experience the peace.  Feel the energy.

Look above you at the beautiful sky.  A few clouds are moving slowly and lazily across the sky.

A gentle breeze begins to move your canoe across the pond.  The breeze moves your canoe into a small opening of the pond which becomes a stream.  You float down the stream.

Beautiful trees and greenery line the banks of this gentle stream.  You feel safe.  This is a protected area.  As you float along your eye is drawn to the lovely clouds in the blue sky overhead.  You see and hear colorful birds in the trees along the banks of the stream.

Breathe in the peace and gentleness of the stream.  Enjoy just being.  Appreciate the energy of the scene.  You don’t have to do anything.  Simply breathe.  Enjoy.

Slowly the canoe comes to the shore along the stream.  You look around and enjoy the beautiful trees, the greenery, the flowers, the birds.  You are very, very relaxed and enjoy being in this special place.

You look over to the shore and see a bench.  You are called to climb out of the canoe and sit on this lovely bench in a protected area on the shore under some trees.  As you sit down on the bench you realize you are not alone.

Coming to sit beside you is a lovely angel.  You feel comfortable, and reach out to the angel who touches your hand.  You know this angel has come to sit by your side and be with you.  You know this angel has come to answer a question for you.

As you sit next to the angel, you notice how the angel looks.  What colors surround this angel.  Is this angel tall, short?  How is this angel dressed?  What is the overall feeling you get from your angel?  Does your angel give you a name?  If so, what is it?  If not, it’s okay.  No matter.

You pause a moment and ask your special angel a question.

PAUSE

After a moment, this angel answers your question and offers you wisdom, comfort, love.

Then, a breeze stirs and you gently rise from the bench.  It is time to say “Thank you” and “Good bye” to this special angel.

You slowly return to the canoe, thankful for having met your special angel.

As you get comfortable in the canoe, you feel an enfolding warmth which is very healing.  You feel as if you are part of the earth.  You feel strong, healthy.  You breathe in peace, strength, health, happiness.  You feel very quiet.

You take these feelings into your solar plexus to keep and remember for any future time that you might need them.

Now…return to your body.  Become aware of your surroundings.  Move your fingers, toes, arms, legs.  Slowly open your eyes.

Become fully awake.  Know that you have the memory of this time in the canoe with you to return to when you need it.

What Goes Into Your Reflexology Healing Space?

Page0007One nice thing about Reflexology for the Spirit is that you can practice is without a lot of expensive or complicated equipment or props.  Your healing space doesn’t have to be the Taj Mahal.

Reflexology for the Spirit works best if the recipient has a body length surface to lie on, face up, or a chair to sit in comfortably.  This can be a massage table, sofa, recliner, or zero gravity recliner.

Often, a recliner is the practitioner’s first choice.  If you have one at home, try setting up a special space in the corner of your living room, or other spare room for your healing work.  Arrange it so the space is comfy and cozy.  The standard reflexology furniture is a zero gravity recliner which can be purchased anywhere  selling lawn furniture.

It’s fine to use your sofa, as well.  When your client partner lies on the sofa face up, their feet hang over the arm.

Some practitioners use massage tables which can be folded up out of the way when not in use.  The height is adjustable.

With a recliner or sofa, you’ll need a stool or small chair that can go low to the floor.  (The zero gravity chair and recliner don’t fold out too high.)  Massage tables are adjustable to you can use whatever chair you’re comfortable with.  (It’s important for you to be comfortable, too.)

Create a sense of place that is peaceful and inviting – a ‘safe’ environment that invites the person to return, a reminder of a sense of peace.  Your environment needs to say “this is your special time”.  Silence the phone – no one making noise, opening doors, etc.  Any other people in your home should be instructed to keep noise levels low.  Purchase a white noise machine.

A massage table with several heating pads lined up under the bedding will ensure the table is warm.  Turn them on a few minutes before the client partner arrives so the space is warm and friendly upon entering.  Table warmers for massage tables can be expensive, and for the beginning practitioner, heating pads will do just as well.

Pillows are important.  They go under the knees as well as under the head.   You need towels to use under the feet as a cushion and also to protect your linens from oils and creams which you’ll be applying.  Wrap a towel around each of your  client partner’s feet after you work on them.

If you’re happy working in the space you create and feel it is a sacred space – so will your client.

Many practitioners play low volume music.  Choose something you think will be appealing or offer a selection to choose from before beginning the session.  Find your music from classical, spiritual chants, Reiki therapy music, yoga music, meditation music.

Make the décor simple and peaceful.  Keep the lighting subdued.

Be certain that everything is tidy and orderly, the area clean.  No one wants to receive a session in a chaotic atmosphere.

Things need to be kept clean also.  People are coming and going; they could come with a few germs,  pick up a few when with you (hopefully not), or leave a few.  After each session, change the linens.  Wash everything with a disinfectant or 1% bleach solution.  Whatever you choose, its gotta be clean.

I hope you found this post helpful.  Please leave your comments below and check out other posts.

The next post will focus on the first step in a reflexology session.  This focus will cover two posts.

Thanks again.
