Eight Ways to Fight the Fear

To be honest, things are becoming more and more confusing as the days go along.  Every time I greet a friend or neighbor or anyone, for that matter, she talks to me as if we are all lost.

And, maybe we are.

It’s hard-to-impossible to figure out sometimes where this year is headed.  Some of my friends and acquaintances are solving their dilemma by simply not reading papers or watching TV.

Others choose their channels with care, blocking out everything that seems to be problematic.

Still others are becoming information junkies, focusing their lives on a particular channel offering information they can understand and accept.

On the home front, our Woodstock community is undergoing gentrification.  We’re all facing the fact that we’re living in a place far removed from the community we chose to live in when we moved here.

And, this situation comes on the heels of the stresses of Covid and everything that went with that.

Our home is hardly recognizable.

And, I haven’t even brought other news:  economic, climate change, the election, our local schools – and any other thing you can imagine.

Then, there are all the economic and social changes in our country.

Sometimes, I think that each of us is on our own, private, Yellow Brick Road.

And, that leads me to the whole reason for this blog post:  Fear

The Fear is palpable.

It has an odor.

I see it on the street in the way people walk and the way they talk and the way they dress.

There are some things we can do as we make our way forward into a future many of us are having trouble even imagining.

ONE.  Speak Your Fear.  As soon as you begin to share your fear, it begins to lose its power over you.

TWO.  When fear covers you with an invisible tent, practice breathing exercises.  Include meditation sessions.  Find what works for you and practice it regularly.  When this breathing exercise becomes a part of your life, you should be able to find calm which will send the panic running.

THREE.  Exercise regularly.  Regular exercise slows down the fight-or-flight reflex.  The options are open here.  Do what you enjoy.

FOUR.  Seek out friends you can chat with who will have a calming effect on you.  This step has been helpful for me.  When I’m upset, I call Carey and we chat.  Sometimes she calls me.  Over the last few months, I’ve gathered a few friends who call me.  We’re an informal support group.

angel with flowers

FIVE. Enjoy Reiki, or other bodywork modality, regularly  I’m watching healing groups form in the area.  People gather regularly to share and exchange their sessions.  I cannot tell you how important these groups are.  Peace.  Calm.  Lower Blood Pressure, Sleep………….

SIX.  Get the what-ifs out of your life and your mind.  These lists of fears can wreak havoc on your day.  And, they will not save your situation.  They are a waste of time which will get you nowhere.  Instead, focus your energy on things you can manage.

SEVEN.  Write something.  This can be a memoir, a journal, a diary, a letter to the editor, a note to a friend you haven’t seen in awhile – whatever works for you.  If you’ve never written anything before, now is a good time to begin.  Don’t worry.  Everybody has a first sentence or chapter or essay.  I had one.  I never wrote anything but my name before 2013.  And, now I have 2 blogs and several books – one of which has been purchased by people in over three dozen countries!

When you begin to write, don’t be afraid of a blog.  My first 2 blogs certainly kickstarted my career.  I bought a book by Nina Amir:  “How to Blog a Book”.  I read this book and followed Nina Amir’s instructions.

EIGHT Stress and what-ifs are good invitations to develop our spiritual and religious lives.  This is a good time to meet fear with a renewed trust in your spiritual and religious beliefs.

Sometimes reality can be downright scary.  This week, meet the uncertainty and fear in your life with a renewed calm.  Work your way down the list and see what item helps you the most.

What Your Feet Reveal!

Your feet reveal the state of your health.  They reveal physical problems in other parts of your body.

Often, the problems we experience with our feet relate to problems in other parts of the body.

Our feet reflect our lives:  what we eat, what we drink,   how we exercise, how well we sleep.

Tense feet may reflect tension in other parts of your body.

Limp feet indicate poor muscle tone.

Cold, blue, or red feet indicate poor circulation.

Sweaty feet suggest hormonal problems.

Swollen feet suggest a trip to a physician is in order.

Corns, blisters, and ingrown toenails will affect posture.

Bunions should be looked at by a podiatrist.

Hammertoes can benefit from reflexology sessions.

Toenails are a reflection of the diet.

When you don’t have time to look after your feet, you may experience corns, blisters, ingrown toenails, and bunions.  These problems affect your posture and metabolism.

Regular reflexology sessions bring about homeostasis.  People receiving regular reflexology sessions feel better and have fewer foot issues.

Self-Care is Kindness to Ourselves

Self-Care asks us to give the same kindness to ourselves that we give to others.

When you have negative or critical thoughts about yourself, stop for a moment and ask yourself this:  “Would I say these things about a good friend?”

The chances are that you would not.  You would not be unkind to someone else.

Now, try being as kind to yourself as you would to a loved one.

The next time things go wrong, accept the event for what it is.  Then, apologize for what happened if that’s appropriate.  Then, forgive yourself.

Learning from mistakes and moving on is a positive way to get through life.

Forgiving yourself is what allows you to get through life.  When you forgive yourself, you are being nice to yourself.  It’s easier to be happy that way.

When you forgive yourself, you are offering self-care.  This sends nourishing messages to the brain about your self-worth.

Try, every day, to care for yourself in every way possible.

When stress accumulates, this facial massage meditation will relieve muscles and leave you feeling better.

     Facial Massage Meditation

For many of us, the day’s stress accumulates in the muscles of the head, face, and jaw.  Massaging your face and head can smooth the tiny muscles and nerve endings.  Stress and fatigue will have a chance to disappear.

Begin this meditation by finding a quiet place where you will be undisturbed for a few minutes.

Lie flat on a chair, bed, or floor, with your face up.   If that is not comfortable, find a comfortable chair or recliner to sit comfortably.

Cover your body with a light blanket or sheet so you won’t get cold as your body relaxes and cools.

Take several deep breaths.  Begin these breaths in your abdominal area.  Breathe in deeply and hold the breath to the count of three:  1 – 2 – 3.

Now slowly release the breath.  When you exhale, you release toxins and stress.

Repeat these inhalations and exhalations 1-2 minutes.  As you inhale, you l breathe in healthy air.  With each exhalation, you release toxins and stress.

Become aware of your forehead.  Mentally relax your forehead to erase wrinkles of expression…the space between your eyebrows becomes bigger.  Your eyelids are heavy.

Move your fingers to your forehead and slowly massage it in small circles.

When you feel that your forehead is becoming relaxed, move your fingers to your temples and gently move them in clockwise and counterclockwise motions.  Feel this area relaxing.

Notice the tension behind your eyes, and around your eyes and release it.

Now, place your fingers on your temples and move your fingers in small, gentle dime-size circles for a few minutes.

Move your fingers down to your chin and gently, gently pinch your chin and along your jawline to your ears.

Now, move your hands to your cheeks.  Massage your soft cheek tissue in a circular motion.

Now, move your hands to your ears.  Gently massage along the edges of your ears for a couple of moments.   Now, give your ears some long, luscious pulls.

You are finishing your facial massage now.  Notice any thoughts, feelings, or sensations you experience now.

Stay quiet for 1-2 minutes while you enjoy and refresh from this experience.

It is time now to return to the present time.

It is okay to return to this place of calm whenever you need.

The goal of this meditation is to experience calm and relaxation using self-touch.

Meditation is Self-Care: 3 Ways to Improve Your Meditation Practice

Meditation is one of the best ways I know to deepen your intuition, reduce medical and psychiatric symptoms, and quiet your anxieties,

Three props to improve your meditation practice:

Create a quiet, soothing meditation area.  This is, for me, basic.

A bell or chime to open your meditation session is important.

Take a few deep breaths and clear your mind.

Using a timer to let you know that your session is coming to an end is helpful.  This timer can a quiet tone or beads which you hold in your hands.

Through the years, I’ve posted meditation articles on this blog. (Find them in the search section).

I’ve also recommended several books:

My favorites are three meditation books written by Larry Moen.  They are:

Meditations for Awakening

Meditations for Transformation

Meditations for Healing

Today, in this article, I share a new meditation which I’m calling “A Perfect Place”.  In this meditation, you create your own perfect place.

Begin with a few deep breaths to clear your mind.

Wait a moment and then imagine yourself in a perfect place, designed just for you.  Look around and ask yourself:

What is around you?  Are you inside or outside?

Do you see buildings, mountains, roadways, lakes, streams?

Or, do you see a room with a chair waiting for you?  Do you see a meeting hall?

What is the weather like outside?  Is it snowing, raining,  Or is the sun shining?

Do you see people?  Are they beside you?  Are they smiling or looking away?

Who are these people?  How many are they?  What are they doing?  Is someone coming over to join you?

Are there any animals?  Are they pets?  Are they wild animals?  How are you connected to them?

What are you doing now?  Are you walking along a path?  Are you sitting on a bench?  Are you in a seat in a theater?  Are you alone or with others – humans or animals?

Is this place familiar to you?  Do you feel you have ever been here before?  Is this space somewhere you have visited in the past?  Have you dreamed about it?

How do you feel in this space?

What are you wearing?

Sit for a few moments and let yourself become adjusted to your surroundings.  Breathe in the perfect air.  Enjoy this perfect place.

You may want to make some notes – or draw a quick sketch even.

Now, check in with yourself – your thoughts, your feelings.  What is happening with your inner self?

Now, take one long, last look around.  This is your place.  It will always be yours.  You know that you may return here any time you want.

After a short time, you know it is time to return to your space before your meditation.

You can return to this meditation whenever you want.

Now, take another deep breath and return.  Open your eyes gently and slowly and gently move and stretch.

Thank you for participating in this meditation.  If it is appropriate, please share it with friends and family.  Forward it to your preferred social media network.

Interested in Self-Care? Try Self-Forgiveness

Let me start this article this way:  Self-forgiveness is never easy.

I’ve written about self-forgiveness before.  It’s a theme for me – even though I didn’t realize it when I began writing.  It’s definitely a part of my books and essays on wellness and hunger.

I have forgiveness chapters in all of my books.  My two favorite chapters are in “The Ketchup Sandwiches Chronicles” beginning on page 103 and 145.

These two chapters focus on two real people and the voyages they traveled while  seeking self-forgiveness.

Begin self-care with a few questions:

Who am I in this community?  In this country?  On this planet?

Remember:  My community, my country, and my planet have value.  I believe the value is greater than the sum of all of us combined.

Self-care means joining the community of the planet.  Everyone, without exception, has value and a role to play.

No one, not even the least of us, is irrelevant.  No one, not even the greatest of us, is above it all.  Being rich or poor simply isn’t part of the equation.

Self-forgiveness in the context of self-care is a journey where we become a part of something greater.  We don’t write off people and situations.  We challenge, encourage, love.

Self-forgiveness allows us to not always be at our best.

Self-forgiveness includes renewal and support.

Self-forgiveness can be a calling.

When you sign onto the journey of self-forgiveness, you’ll travel to places you’ve never been before.  You may find yourself involved in activities and events for which you may not be quite prepared.

You can’t complete a self-forgiveness journey with an isolated incident like you would complete a puzzle or word game.  It is a part of a process.

Forgiveness is always a challenge.  Everyone seeks forgiveness and self-forgiveness is the hardest part.

How does it work?  Well, do what you can with what you have.  Work where you are.  A good starting point is to sketch your community.

Really, what you’re doing is muddling through.  Frankly, I think that’s how self-forgiveness works.  This journey is not going to be perfect.  At times, it may seem overwhelming.  Other times, it may seem simply like a blank page.  Self-forgiveness comes with very few maps.  Certainly, there is no GPS.

Forgiveness is a journey with its own timetable.  There may be surprise stops along the way.  That’s because forgiveness has its own messages and meaning.

A bottom line is this:  Forgiveness is for you and you alone.  When you forgive someone, you are not forgiving them for them.  You are forgiving them for you.

And, that’s what self-care is all about:  YOU.

Self-forgiveness happens when you move beyond your  thoughts and memories  to a new place.  At that moment, you see things differently.  Sometimes this new place can be a sort of miracle.

This happens when you see your open heart and embrace new hopes and blessings.  After a few moments, you may also hear things in a new way.

This is true change.  True change, and self-forgiveness, happens when you face the same condition that caused you to behave in a way unacceptable to yourself and now you see things differently.

You break out of your past.

You’ve changed.  You are a different person.

You wake up and claim your self-forgiven reality.

To hear stories of healing and of hunger, tune into YouTube.  There are several segments where I read the stories.  It is one thing to read the stories and another thing entirely to hear them.  ENJOY

When traveling on your self-forgiveness journey, I recommend you include regular reflexology and Reiki sessions.  Spiritual journeys include physical, mental, and emotional changes as well.  Your feet are a command center of your body.  They need consideration and attention during this time.

What do You Want to Manifest? Five Tips for Success

Several days ago, I researched a special gift for a colleague.  What I was looking for was for the perfect gift.  I considered a Snowflake.  She would really enjoy a snowflake!  Where was I going to find a snowflake, of all things?

I put this thought aside.

Then, guess what.  Three days later, a snowflake catalogue landed in my mailbox!  The perfect gift appeared on page 3.  I had a choice of a charm, a pendant, an ornament, or a pin.  The prices were right.  Whichever one I chose, she was going to be delighted.

For me, this was not a coincidence.  Spiritually, I participated in this mailbox event.

We all have these experiences. The trick is to recognize them for what they are.  But, you can have these special coincidences and also have challenges with other manifestations.

There is a difference between manifesting a picture in a catalogue and manifesting a something else such as a new car, house, or a dream job.

MANIFESTING on all levels begins when you clarify what is important for you.  Once you define your values and what is precious to you, manifesting what you need is going to be easier.

The bottom line:  WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?

What do YOU think is important?  Clearly know what is important to you – not what your mother or your friends or your boss or your social media friends think is important.

What do I want…really?  What do I yearn for spiritually?  Emotionally, what do I want to experience?

Dream about the world you want to create and live in.  This world that you are dreaming of:

Is it responsive –

Do positive relationships matter –

How does cooperation fit into your life –

Does support reach out in vulnerable situations and places –

Is there a reverence for the sacred –

Now, envision what this world is to you.  What are you going to do to create this world?

What are you passionate about?

FIRST

Define the person or persons you are concerned about.  How will they fit in your manifested scenario?  How do they define the situation you are focusing on?

Focus on the situation.  Are you passionate about a physical space (a building perhaps) or an energetic situation (leadership or healing)?

SECOND

Know your goals.  Do you need to sell your home?  Do you need a better job in a new city?  Do you need to retrain yourself for the future?

THIRD

What is your manifesting outcome?  (A suggestion here – write this down.)

A journal is the perfect tool to bring with you on your manifestation journey.   As you write in your journal daily, you have the opportunity to unlock information and secrets to help guide you to your goals.  Your entries can give you information about possible challenges.  You may discover concerns hiding just beneath the secret of your consciousness.

Reviewing your journal in later readings, you may find that your future is not predetermined.  Over the months, what you find in your journal reveals things that can change your attitudes, behaviors, and how you respond to events.

Your future can improve your insights and options in ways that work best for you.

FOURTH.

What is your promise?  (What do you have invested in your goal? What are you prepared to do to make your promise a reality? How do you visualize achieving your goals?)

FIFTH

How is your gratitude circle developing? Gratitude is more powerful than fear, worry, anger and anxiety.  Gratitude is where you tap into your abundance.  Developing your gratitude circle taps you into your unlimited options.

– – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – – — – – – – – – – – – – – – — – – – – – – – – – – – –

When you are in a manifesting mode, nurturing is helpful.  By that, I mean   nurture yourself, your goals, and your concerns.

Maybe things need a REBALANCE.  When it comes to money and finances, seek fair, sensible, and practical solutions focusing on comfort and confidence while caring for others and your surroundings. You want the money you distribute to produce tangible results.

SELF-CARE is a deeply personal process you use to regain physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual balance.  Self-care facilitates rebalance.

MEDITATIONS can help you reach your goals.  Try an 8-week series of daily meditations for 10-15 minutes each.  You may want to read a guided meditation daily.  For years, I’ve relied on a set of three meditation books by Larry Moen.  They are still available on Amazon:  “Meditations for Awakening, Meditations for Transformation, Meditations for Healing”

Or you may want to create your own guided meditation.

Finally, you may prefer to focus a few minutes daily on your breath and breathing as you reach calm.

Whatever path you choose for your meditations, daily focus helps you.  Don’t get bogged down with rules.  Just remember:  minds like to wander.  It’s okay.  Also, trust your inner wisdom to get you there.

Use your senses to see your dreams and goals coming to life.  You’ll play a mental movie where you are the director.  As you mentally enact your dreams, you will make them a reality.

Finally, TAKE ACTION.  This is a weekly event where you do something each week to help you progress toward your goal.

Whenever you can, include reflexology or Reiki therapy sessions in your weekly progress.  Every session helps!

What Needs to Go?

A woman called me yesterday. “My life is overtaking my life” she confided.  She spoke about things tying her down:  Her life is jumbled up. This includes her work schedule, her personal appointments, her home, her closets, her kitchen, her friends, her goals, her feelings, and her ambitions.  Her spiritual practice is caught up in the confusion.

Sometimes, in order to move forward, it’s important to offload excesses.  You know something significant is about happen, but it isn’t.  You’re doing everything you can think of, but things just aren’t going there.

A transformation will clear the way for the new beginning you’ve been working for.  Those things coming to an end can be reborn in the new beginning you need.

You know that it’s not good to just pile your future onto the detritus of the past.

When you walk away from your past and toward your future, leave your baggage behind.  This includes old thinking and old habits.

What should you do?

Set up an altar honoring your past.  Accept your past for what  it was and who it included.  Put some items from your past on the altar.  Include photos, or some flowers, for example, and some old thinking and old habits. Burn a candle.  Smudge the memories.  Release your past into the universe.

Be grateful for the past you had.  Honor it and put it to rest as you leave it behind.

Embrace the change.  Move on.  Words like old, outgrown, elimination, unknown, stale, conclusion, and simplify are important now.

Schedule some Reiki therapy or Reflexology sessions and embrace your new possibilities.

Make room for guided meditations.

And, finally, don’t look back!

Make a list of all the things you need to do to encourage your new life.  What’s on this list:

Make room for something new in your life

A new job

A new educational direction

A better diet

Getting more sleep

Spiritual growth and awakening

It’s time for you to do everything you can to open the door to your future.  When this happens, destiny has a chance to move in!

Your Crown Chakra Meditation

A crown chakra meditation is a good place for physical and spiritual healing.  This is where you encounter unconditional love.  You also channel wisdom and inspirational gifts of spirit guides and angelic beings.

Find a quiet, safe space for this meditation.

Begin by getting comfortable.  Sit, or lie down as you breathe slowly, evenly, and deeply to energize your crown chakra.

When you exhale, you release anger, fear, loss, negativity, and any other toxins.

Beginning with your first chakra, check in with each one as you greet it.

Now move up to your other chakras.  Touch or tap each chakra gently with your fingertips and note what sound or image you experience at each one.

You may or may not experience sounds, touch, smells.

You may want to record a word or two in a journal as you journey up your chakra path.

Arriving at your crown chakra, focus on where you are for a few minutes. Touch or tap your crown chakra as you focus on the center of your head.   What sensations do you feel?   Do you find a message here today?

You don’t have to feel, see, hear, or smell anything.  This is especially true if this is your first crown chakra meditation.  Whatever you experience, don’t worry.

Breathe into your crown chakra now.  Your mind is quiet.  Accept this moment as the blessing it is.   Take a few more crown chakra breaths to receive any feedback which may come to you as word, sound, song, image, color, feeling, intuitive message, awareness.

Your feedback may come to you at the moment, or later in the day or even a few days later.  Don’t try to rush things.

As your crown chakra meditation comes to an end, slowly move your body.  Bring yourself to your space gently and calmly.

Return to this meditation any time you want to communicate with your chakras.

Thank your chakras for this experience.

Thank you for reading this meditation today.  Please share it with your favorite social media network.  Please forward it to your friends and family.

More chakra information is available in “A Healer’s Handbook.”

There is also more chakra information available at “Let’s Live with Thurman Greco – YOUTUBE”

Move Into Your Future!

Are you ready to move into your future?

You’re at a good starting point now.  You’ve just lived through a couple of years where your life was different from anything you’ve experienced before.

Each of us has a different pandemic life experience.

For years, my job had a certain description, a certain pace.  Suddenly, the pandemic brought in new and different rules.  I remember that first Monday like a confusing dream.

One of my friends, on a road trip to California, got stuck somewhere in Nevada or Colorado for three weeks when everything shut down.

Another close friend went into her home and hasn’t come out yet.  When I visit with her over the phone, I wonder if I’ll ever see her again.  Social distancing is an art form for her.  Her life is a closet to hide in.

We cleaned our homes, and cleaned out our homes. We took up solitary hobbies.  We did things we never even imagined that we would do and then we talked about it on the phone and emailed about it.  Or didn’t.

CHANGE IS IN THE AIR NOW

People are moving, getting new jobs, getting trained, starting new businesses.  Whatever this shift brings, I see people going forward somehow.  .

Question marks punctuate everything. Question marks are the centerpiece of this new energy.  We’re riding into our futures on them.

What are some guidelines we can use in these new times?

GRIEVE THE TIME WE LIVED THROUGH THE PANDEMIC.

Honor your losses.   Remember friends and relatives lost to this disease.  Did you struggle with children trying to learn school lessons at home? Is your job gone forever?  Did you work endless hours?  Is your housing situation changed?  How are you changed?

Honor these experiences and set them free.

OPEN THE CLOSET DOORS.

Send whatever fears you have away.  Quit hiding from life, hiding from love.

You may be hiding old, worn-out fears and experiences in this closet.  If you look in the corners, you may find baggage stuffed with fears and events you experienced in past lives even.

Whatever you’re hiding, send it on its way.  You need space for the new you.  Spend some time meditating about the new you –   how you look and act and feel.

GIVE YOURSELF PERMISSION TO LET YOURSELF BE YOU.

Right now the world needs you to just be you.  When you are yourself, you can soar like a  beautiful bird.  As you soar, you release your limitations.

With your limitations gone, you’ll shine in new ways you may not have thought possible before.  Let the world see the real you – the new you that was there all along,

Without limitations, how will your new life look?

For some of us, creating the new life is the most difficult part of moving into your new future.  These old limitations were comfortable. Make it easier to create your new life.  Creating your new identity can be a real challenge.

It can also be the best thing you can do.

BEGIN BY LETTING GO.

Let go of living with what other people expect of you.  When you live your life according to what everybody else wants, you will find yourself following the crowd, and obeying the rules.

When you give up living your life for other people, you’ll find that you are discovering things you want to do to live your own life for yourself.

Hurrah!

You may even see the big picture now.

FINALLY!

You are good enough.  You are smart enough.  Know your worth.

Be kind.

A Throat Chakra Meditation – Know your Truth

Get comfortable and relax into peace and calm.

Take a few slow deep breaths.

Inhale slowly through your nose.

Exhale through your mouth.

As you breathe deeply, close your eyes.  Encourage your whole body to settle down into the calm.

As you let go, feel lighter with each breath.

As you continue your breathing, you see an iridescent, pale blue light surrounding you.  This light is encasing and protecting you.

You look around and see you are floating in the air while this light protects you.  You drift higher and higher.  You float  through  large puffy clouds.

You float even higher.

Soon you see the earth below as you float higher and higher in your own inner space.  You continue your journey surrounded by a cocoon of bluish white light.

You feel comfortable in this cocoon.

As you float higher, you feel this bluish white light filling you with love and light and harmony and peace.

As you look around you, you notice a group of shadowy faces which are familiar.  As you look  more closely at these faces, you see glimmers of a person you love who has passed over.  Then, you notice a face you know who is a guide for you.  Everyone is smiling to see you.

You know in your heart that these beings have a message for you.  You listen quietly and absorb healing wisdom and feelings.

You are blissful in a holy space of truth and wisdom.  You feel blessed.

You accept the gifts of love and light and truth which you receive in this iridescent light space surrounding you.

You pause for a moment to receive a message of truth and wisdom now.

You take a moment to thank these beings for the truth and wisdom they share with you.

You feel a sense of gratitude.  – You feel this gift so strongly that you send your gratitude forward as a healing to the earth.

You envision peace and calm and good health for all beings on earth.

The special blue light surrounding you begins its descent into your space now.  You are grateful for the wisdom you experienced on this journey.

You know it is time for you to return to your room now.  It is time for your special iridescent blue bubble to merge with the air of your place.

You know you can return to your special  light of wisdom and truth whenever you want.

You send feelings of gratitude for this experience.
