Reflexology For The Spirit

spirituality of one's health

Let’s Get Back to Basics! Start with Foot Reflexology

Reduced to a basic practice, reflexology works with zone therapy.  So, this chart is the one I’m displaying first. If you feel that your life is too complicated for reflexology, try massaging your feet and observing where you feel soreness or sensitivity.  Rather than feeling you even need to know how you experience these points, just knowing where they are on your feet is enough.

Foot reflexology sessions relax, balance, detox, and heal your entire body.

Reflexology brings about homeostasis – a body balance that is important for your health.

Reflex areas in your feet correspond to the internal organs.

Note where these points are and then work them over the next few days.

Work your toes to help alleviate headaches,

The ball of your foot relieves tension in your neck and shoulders.

Your foot arch relates to your liver, bowel, and kidneys.  Manipulate this area gently, especially if you’ve been burning the candle at both ends.

Massaging the top of your foot induces psychological calm.

Modern reflexology is based on the centuries-old theory of Zone Therapy.  The principle is that the energy connection should be free-flowing.  An energy blockage will imbalance body parts within that particular zone.

Reflexology sessions work to restore free-flowing energy pathways throughout the body, creating homeostasis.  This energetic body balance is essential for your good health.

When our bodies are balanced, things work better:

stress is relieved

the immune system improves

there is relief from pain

circulation improves

bowel movements improve

toxins  clear

relaxation is better

In short, the body works better!

Most of us know these things but it’s nice to have a short review occasionally.  It’s easier to find time in the daily schedule for a reflexology session if we can remember what the session will actually do for us.

On behalf of healers everywhere, I honor you and thank you for seeking wellness throughout your life.

With blogs, books, classes and sessions, I am not here to change your story.  I am here as a conduit for your healing.

A Throat Chakra Meditation – Know your Truth

Get comfortable and relax into peace and calm.

Take a few slow deep breaths.

Inhale slowly through your nose.

Exhale through your mouth.

As you breathe deeply, close your eyes.  Encourage your whole body to settle down into the calm.

As you let go, feel lighter with each breath.

As you continue your breathing, you see an iridescent, pale blue light surrounding you.  This light is encasing and protecting you.

You look around and see you are floating in the air while this light protects you.  You drift higher and higher.  You float  through  large puffy clouds.

You float even higher.

Soon you see the earth below as you float higher and higher in your own inner space.  You continue your journey surrounded by a cocoon of bluish white light.

You feel comfortable in this cocoon.

As you float higher, you feel this bluish white light filling you with love and light and harmony and peace.

As you look around you, you notice a group of shadowy faces which are familiar.  As you look  more closely at these faces, you see glimmers of a person you love who has passed over.  Then, you notice a face you know who is a guide for you.  Everyone is smiling to see you.

You know in your heart that these beings have a message for you.  You listen quietly and absorb healing wisdom and feelings.

You are blissful in a holy space of truth and wisdom.  You feel blessed.

You accept the gifts of love and light and truth which you receive in this iridescent light space surrounding you.

You pause for a moment to receive a message of truth and wisdom now.

You take a moment to thank these beings for the truth and wisdom they share with you.

You feel a sense of gratitude.  – You feel this gift so strongly that you send your gratitude forward as a healing to the earth.

You envision peace and calm and good health for all beings on earth.

The special blue light surrounding you begins its descent into your space now.  You are grateful for the wisdom you experienced on this journey.

You know it is time for you to return to your room now.  It is time for your special iridescent blue bubble to merge with the air of your place.

You know you can return to your special  light of wisdom and truth whenever you want.

You send feelings of gratitude for this experience.

Your First Chakra and Your Better Health

“I don’t know what I did, but I know what I’m going to do now!”  My fellow yoga student blurted out recently at class.

“What’s wrong?”

“I don’t know what happened, but my lower back really hurts!  I’m going to a doctor tomorrow.  I’m afraid I’m going to need surgery..”

Your first chakra is located at the base of your spine. Whatever the issues, a painful lower back is a strong indication of a spiritually stressed spine and an unbalanced first chakra.

When things are right in your life, you feel safe and secure.  You have a positive mental attitude and can protect yourself from life’s daily issues.

When your first chakra is unbalanced or blocked, depression and other negative experiences  impose themselves on your daily decisions.   You have difficulty sleeping and worry about money, health, and your job.

An overactive first chakra produces anxiety, greed, hoarding, and control issues at home and at work.  Basically, you feel unsafe.

Health symptoms and ailments involving your first chakra include:   adrenal fatigue, anger, anxiety, low back pain, codependency, fear, hemorrhoids,  leg pain, panic attacks, sciatica.

Addictions are root chakra issues.

Chakras are often out of balance for quite a while before health issues and diseases manifest themselves in the physical body.

Chakras are energy.  And, they are communicators.  They talk to us, giving us valuable information we need to be well.

Where is your disease or issue located?

When you have an injury to your lower spine, you probably have a first chakra imbalance.

Any issue connected with the rectum, anus, or any elimination issue is a first chakra issue.

Other first chakra issues include addictions to alcohol, food, coffee, gambling, drugs, sex, shopping.

For men, any issue with the testes,  or prostate cancer is a first chakra issue.

Things to remember about first chakra imbalances:

Chakras are connected to the total body.

When you’re dealing with a health issue, work with your physical, spiritual, mental, and emotional body.  If you have a kidney infection, for example, heal your total body, not just the infection, and not just the chakra.

And, you need to balance your other chakras also.

It’s harder to fight a disease with a unbalanced corresponding chakra.

Finally:

Your chakras don’t work in a vacuum.  They collaborate with other chakras.  They work with your physical and mental bodies and they work with your energetic body.

So, don’t just give one chakra a boost.  Don’t just give your swollen ankle an ice pack.  Help your entire body.

Take the medicine you’ve been prescribed.

Look around, is there something in your environment that you can change which will help you get well and stay better?

At times in my life, the answer to this question involved eating a specific diet.    At another time, I had to buy a better desk chair.  Recently, I joined a combination exercise/yoga class.

Well…DO IT!

As your body and your spirit and your mind improve, what can you do to keep things that way?

Well…DO IT!

Everytime I ask myself those questions, I always come up with…guess what!

Reflexology and Reiki!

Thanks for reading this blog post.  I will continue on with other chakras as well.

For me, this article was a real eye opener!  I knew, existentially, that men and women experience their first chakra issues and balances in different ways.  After all, women do not have testes.

Sex is very different for women than it is for men.   I’ve known this all along but I just never connected the differences to the chakra system.

These basic differences affect how we feel about belonging in our bodies.

I now realize that our chakras and how we experience them is a very different experience for women and men.

These differences, of course, carry over to the second (Sacral) chakra.  But that’s another blog post.

HOPE – a Guided Meditation

Hope focuses on renewal, rebirth, and healing.

Find a place to be comfortable where you can rest undisturbed during this time.

As we experience this meditation, feel the “old” drop away and “new” opportunities present themselves.

Leave everything around you behind and bring your attention to yourself.

Relax as you go on this journey.

Get comfortable.

Breathe in from your abdomen – slowly, slowly, to the count of three.

One – Two – Three

Now – hold your breath to the count of four

One – Two – Three – Four

Now – exhale to the count of five.

One – Two – Three – Four – Five

Repeat this breathing pattern three more times.

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

In – one, two, three

Hold – one, two, three, four

Out – one, two, three, four, five

Continue to breathe deeply as you go into this relaxation.

Your relaxation becomes a blanket of warmth.  Sink down into this  quiet place inside yourself.

PAUSE

You are calm and peaceful now.  It is time for your journey.

PAUSE

You are strolling along a path in a forest.  Notice this path.  How does it feel under your feet?  Is this path a smooth grassy path?  Are there pebbles?   What kind of shoes are you wearing?

As you walk down this path, take a moment to feel the air on your skin – the sunlight shining down – gentle breezes caressing your clothes.

As you travel, notice sights, sounds, and fragrances:  birds, butterflies, wind in the trees.

What is your reaction to this place?  How do you feel beyond your body?

Strolling for a short time, you come to a clearing in the forest with openings to different paths.

As you look at the different paths, one attracts you.

You look down this path and see something shining in the sun off in the distance.

You’re drawn to this shining spot in the sun.  What is it?

You walk along this path that you just selected.  How does it feel under your feet?  Is it smooth?  Are there pebbles?  Is it a smooth dirt path?  Are there stepping stones?

As you walk toward the shiny spot ahead,  you feel layers and layers of your past drop away.

The weight of the world evaporates from your shoulders.

PAUSE

You soon arrive at the end of the path where you see a bench waiting for you.

There, on this bench, you see new clothes, neatly folded.

When you look at them, you see they are more beautiful than any you’ve seen before.

You remove the clothes you are wearing and put on these new clothes.  They are a perfect fit.

You walk up a slight hill toward the shining object you saw at the beginning of your walk.

As you approach the shining object, you discover it is a mirror.

You look in this mirror and see your reflection.

You see:

The person you have always known you were.

The person  you have always wanted to be.

You see yourself as strong, and happy.

NOW – you can continue to explore your new “you” as you return to this room.

You know you can return to this place anytime you want.

This meditation is part of a new program I’m offering called “Hope on the Road”.  I am sharing this meditation along with a reiki session and hand blessing to anyone who requests it.

This program is adaptable to zoom and in- person groups large or small.  It will also be on my YouTube channel.

Thank you for  participating.

Healing Music – an important part of your toolbox – Part 5

Music is an important component of healing because everything has its very own musical component.

When we speak to one another (or to ourselves), our voices transmit a unique spiritual music.  Each person’s voice is individual.

When we move, our bodies send a tempo representing our feelings at the moment.

Everything around us is musical because we are all composed of energy.

When we offer reflexology or Reiki therapy or chakra healing or any number of other healing modalities, each one has it’s own music.  But, that doesn’t mean that an added layer of healing music isn’t important.  The healing music you play while you heal a person contributes to that person’s wellness.

I have known healers who used only one or two musical selections for everyone.  Other healers had stacks and stacks of cd’s to choose from.

I have also known client partners who preferred a specific song.  One  client partner wanted only a  special song playing when she entered the healing room.  She wanted nothing more.  For her, healing began when she heard the music she chose.   Her choice:  “Nada Himalaya” by Deuter.  New Earth Records produced this CD.

My thoughts on this:  Whatever works for your client is the right choice.

The important thing is not whether I like the music or not.  My preferences don’t matter.   The important thing is that the person who needs and receives the healing responds positively to what she hears.

I have client partners who only want to hear chants.  Others dislike the chants and don’t want to hear them.  My job is to discover what music each client prefers and have it playing during each session.

If you don’t know what to offer, you can’t go wrong with some quiet Bach or Pachelbel.  Music by Steven Halpern or Deuter have been staples in healing rooms for decades.

But, whatever you select, your choice is important, very important.

Not long ago, I lost a client because of the music I selected.  This woman was a recent regular client – coming to my table weekly.  She appeared to be happy with my services and healing modality environment.

She enjoyed a variety of music and I had enough CD’s to offer a different selection at each session.  Then, one day, she walked into the healing room and immediately went on alert.  She was even a little fearful.  I didn’t know why.

Before the end of the session, she commented to me that I was playing her “favorite song”.  The musician was not well known and only had one CD out.   She revealed  me that this love for the music we were listening to was a deep dark secret that she had never shared with anyone.

I had, inadvertently, invaded a  private space she was not prepared to share.

Do I need to tell you what happened to this client?

Every client has a private space where no one can be invited in.  One of the jobs of a healer is to find the  door, make sure it’s locked, and throw away the key.

The music you share in your healing space is as intimate as the work you do.

Guided Meditations get you to the next level in your sessions.

I learned about guided meditations in Mary Ruth Van Landingham’s classes at Terra Christa in Vienna, Virginia.  She always included a guided meditation as part of each learning experience.

When Rev. Dan Chesbro taught a class at Terra Christa, he always included a guided meditation.  Looking back on his sessions, I see now they were guided meditations in and of themselves.

I bought three books at Terra Christa: “Meditations for Awakening”, “Meditations for Transformation”, and “Meditations for Healing” by Larry Moen.  These books became part of every work day, whether I was teaching or healing.

The influence of these books on my career was significant.

As a matter of fact, I wore out the Awakening book and had to buy another to replace it.  The other two need to be replaced now.

I’ve bought other guided meditation how-to books over the years.

Two that stand out  include “Guided Imagery for Groups”  by Andrew E. Schwartz and “Himalayan Salt Crystal Lamps for Healing, Harmony, and Purification” by Clemence Lefevre.  I’m including them in this list because they are interesting and helpful.  Each book shows how different and honest guided meditations can be.

These 2 books each have a different approach to guided meditations.  Through the years, even though I wore out the Larry Moen books, it was important to me to expand my boundaries and use different information.  That’s how I learned.

Somehow, my learning path included one short class about writing my own guided meditations.  I took an End-of-Life Class at the New York Open Center.  Henry Fersco-Weiss taught this class over a weekend.   He included a short instruction about creating a guided meditation.  It was all I needed.

I knew after that short segment that I could do this on my own.   Even though I’ve written many guided meditations, I always return to Larry Moen’s books.  Specifically, I like to select “Lagoon” on page 20 of “Meditations for Awakening.”  I always go to this meditation in my Reiki 1 classes.

But, when you get into guided meditations, the choices are many.

I hope you’ll be motivated to incorporate guided meditations at every opportunity.
