Reflexology for the Spirit: Backaches are Very Definitely Spiritual Events.
The kind of spiritual event that creates a backache depends on whether the pain is in the lower, middle or upper back.
People with back issues in the lower back are dealing with money and financial issues. They’re also dealing with core beliefs. These sufferers need to work to feel safe, cared for.
Mid-back issues deal with guilt. These mid-back problems focus on the need to leave the past behind. This person is trying to move forward.
Upper back issues deal with things like emotional support, love. The person needs to feel supported and loved.
When we refer to these issues and their physical causes, it’s good to remember that backache can be caused by injury, poor posture, muscle strain, pinched nerves, stress or other conditions.
Middle and lower-back problems result from injury, poor posture, standing or sitting for long periods of time, tension, improper lifting.
WORK THE FOLLOWING SYSTEMS WHEN ADDRESSING BACKACHES: Begin with the sciatic nerve reflexes. Work the endocrine system, circulatory system, urinary system, muscular system, skeletal system, liver and solar plexus.
As you offer these sessions, you are encouraging homeostasis, relieving stress and tension. The person on your table also needs to go to a medical health care professional for a diagnosis and possibly treatment. Visits to a chiropractor, acupuncturist, physical therapist can supplement your visits.

Reflexology Blog – The Nervous System is a Powerful Spiritual Communication Tool.
The nervous system, made up of the brain and the spinal cord, gathers information, stores it, and controls what is done with it.
The brain controls our personality, judgment, speech, some movement, sound memory, temperature control and pain.
The peripheral nervous system connects the central nervous system to muscles, glands, and sensory receptors.
The autonomic nervous system controls muscles in the internal organs, intestines, sweat glands, airways, heart and blood vessels. It’s divided into 2 parts: the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems.
The sympathetic nervous system deals with energy, speeding up things like heartbeat. The parasympathetic nervous system slows thing down. The parasympathetic system has other functions as well. For example, once your food is chewed and swallowed, it moves through the body under the direction of the parasympathetic nervous system.
The central nervous system and brain serve all organs and functions of the body including actions like walking and talking.
Work the part of the spine corresponding to a body function or part that your client is having trouble with. For example, if a person comes to you with a neck problem, work the part of the spine that corresponds to the neck.
These nerves are found along the spinal reflexes because they’re housed within the vertebrae. So, while all these descriptions may seem complicated, all you need to do is work the spinal column which is inside the vertebrae.
Working the nervous system reflexes help the body overcome stress and increase blood flow. When this happens, the body functions in a more balanced way. This assists homeostasis.
Thanks for reading this post. Tomorrow’s post will focus on how to use the nervous system in a reflexology session. We’ll also discuss essential oils and foods that nourish the nervous system.
Peace and food for all.

A Meditation for You – A Safe Place With An Angel
Begin by developing a pattern of even breathing. Inhale and exhale slowly and comfortably, breathing in and out of your body. Release tension with each exhale. Do this several times.
Now, find yourself walking down a path. As you walk along this path, you look around you and notice the trees. Notice the shrubs and bushes, flowers and other undergrowth. What do you smell? What is the path like that you’re walking on? How does it feel underneath your feet? Pick up some treasures you find as you walk along: a leaf, a conifer needle, pine cones, stones, maybe a feather, maybe a crystal.
Breathe in a long, slow, deep breath. Smell the air. Is the air around you cold or warm?
After walking along for a while, you come to a clearing. As you look around and take notice of your surroundings, you notice a structure. Do you see a building, a cabin, a small cottage, a cave, or other natural structure? What does it look like? How does it invite you? You know within yourself that it’
s a safe place. Look for openings as you investigate this safe place. Get to know this safe space through your senses. What do you smell? What do you hear? Do you hear leaves rustling as a breeze blows through? Do you hear birds? Do you hear squirrels, chipmunks, or other small creatures?
Pause for a moment and absorb all that you are experiencing.
This structure is calling to you. Slowly you enter. Look around the interior. What furnishings do you encounter? Are there any pictures on the wall? Do you notice any unusual objects?
You feel very safe in this space. You realize you are secure here. Safe and secure. You notice a bench on a nearby wall. You walk over to the bench and sit down.
Immediately an angel comes over to communicate with you. As this angel comes over to you and sits down by you, you realize that this special angel is coming to offer you security.
You know this angel is here for you to offer security and answer any questions you may have at this time.
Look at this angel. How does your special angel appear? What colors do you see? Do you smell anything special? Pay attention to the details of your special angel so you will remember them. What exactly does your special angel look like?
Ask this angel any questions you may have now. Be silent for a few moments now to allow this special angel to answer your questions.
These answers may come to you in several ways. You may hear answers now. You may see a picture of the answer rather than hearing the spoken words. You may experience feelings which give you the answer you seek. You may hear music which convey the answers you seek.
Over the next few days you may also receive answers in the form of people, books, songs, or thoughts.
Send a message of gratitude and thanksgiving to your special angel.
It’s time to return to your body now. Gently focus your awareness on your breathing. Return to this room on the path. Slowly allow your consciousness to return you to reality.
Remember, this special angel came here today just for you to offer you safety and security. You can contact this angel with questions anytime you need.
Be sure to thank your special angel each time you receive these special blessings of safety and security.
7 Levels of Disease – a New (Very Old) Way to Think About Disease
So often, when we visit a healthcare professional, we want the whole body, the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual, to be considered. Instead, a portion of the body is considered.
Fortunately, this attitude is changing. More and more people are receiving healthcare for the whole person.
Healthcare for the whole person requires a different outlook, attitude. It sometimes requires that we return to a much older model of wellness or illness, as it were.
I offer here a 7-point scale:
Level one is the lowest on the scale. The word for level one is fatigue. If your client partner comes to you complaining of fatigue or loss of appetite only, this person is experiencing the lowest level of disease. As you offer a Reflexology for the Spirit session, try to find out why the person is tired. Has s/he been burning the candle at both ends? What is happening here?
Level two is fever. Try to find out what is causing the fever. Does your client partner even know? How does the person know s/he has fever? How long has it been high? What times of the day is it high? When is it lowest?
Level three is irritation. The operative words here are: headaches, itching, feeling jumpy or uneasy, coated tongue, halitosis. What are the best ways to deal with these conditions?
Level four is inflammation to include colitis, sinusitis, gum disease, etc. Is s/he doing anything to treat these conditions?
Level five is ulceration. As in stomach ulcers or canker stores.
Level six is induration. That is an encapsulated group of toxins. An induration is a health issue that a person’s body has built a wall around. Essentially, the body is saying: “Toxins, I’m not going to deal with you now. I’m going to close you in and deal with you later.”
Level 7 is cancer. So…we go from fatigue to cancer. All these levels are important. The issues at each level must be addressed and treated…not ignored. They are all connected.
Through regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions, we can address these issues to facilitate homeostasis. And, these conditions are all valid reasons to visit a physician. The reflexologist works on a regular basis to address the whole person and facilitate homeostasis.

Reflexology Blog – Bladder Infections Can be Spiritual Afflictions – 3 Things You Can Do To Avoid Infections
There are many kinds of bladder problems. This post focuses on bladder infections because we’re examining the immune system.
Bladder infections are just one more in a long list of spiritual afflictions. People develop bladder infections when they have a fear of letting something from the past go. When this fear occurs, the person can develop anxiety over the issue.
Bladder infections can be very troublesome: pain, frequent urination, etc. Never ignore these symptoms.
Prevention helps. People experiencing repeat bladder infections can do several things to try to prevent frequent recurrence of these infections.
Drinking lots of fluids helps. The goal is to wash germs found in kidneys, ureters, bladder, and bloodstream. Include cranberry juice in your diet.
Improving sanitary habits is necessary. Frequent bathing helps. Wiping from the front of the body to the back after urination is important also.
Bladder infections have a way of showing up when a person’s stress level is high and resistance level is low. Do what you can to release old issues and welcome new things in your life.
When addressing bladder infections, work the immune system, the spleen reflex, adrenal gland reflexes, kidney reflexes, bladder reflex, lymphatics, liver, and solar plexus.

What Goes Into Your Reflexology Healing Space?
One nice thing about Reflexology for the Spirit is that you can practice is without a lot of expensive or complicated equipment or props. Your healing space doesn’t have to be the Taj Mahal.
Reflexology for the Spirit works best if the recipient has a body length surface to lie on, face up, or a chair to sit in comfortably. This can be a massage table, sofa, recliner, or zero gravity recliner.
Often, a recliner is the practitioner’s first choice. If you have one at home, try setting up a special space in the corner of your living room, or other spare room for your healing work. Arrange it so the space is comfy and cozy. The standard reflexology furniture is a zero gravity recliner which can be purchased anywhere selling lawn furniture.
It’s fine to use your sofa, as well. When your client partner lies on the sofa face up, their feet hang over the arm.
Some practitioners use massage tables which can be folded up out of the way when not in use. The height is adjustable.
With a recliner or sofa, you’ll need a stool or small chair that can go low to the floor. (The zero gravity chair and recliner don’t fold out too high.) Massage tables are adjustable to you can use whatever chair you’re comfortable with. (It’s important for you to be comfortable, too.)
Create a sense of place that is peaceful and inviting – a ‘safe’ environment that invites the person to return, a reminder of a sense of peace. Your environment needs to say “this is your special time”. Silence the phone – no one making noise, opening doors, etc. Any other people in your home should be instructed to keep noise levels low. Purchase a white noise machine.
A massage table with several heating pads lined up under the bedding will ensure the table is warm. Turn them on a few minutes before the client partner arrives so the space is warm and friendly upon entering. Table warmers for massage tables can be expensive, and for the beginning practitioner, heating pads will do just as well.
Pillows are important. They go under the knees as well as under the head. You need towels to use under the feet as a cushion and also to protect your linens from oils and creams which you’ll be applying. Wrap a towel around each of your client partner’s feet after you work on them.
If you’re happy working in the space you create and feel it is a sacred space – so will your client.
Many practitioners play low volume music. Choose something you think will be appealing or offer a selection to choose from before beginning the session. Find your music from classical, spiritual chants, Reiki therapy music, yoga music, meditation music.
Make the décor simple and peaceful. Keep the lighting subdued.
Be certain that everything is tidy and orderly, the area clean. No one wants to receive a session in a chaotic atmosphere.
Things need to be kept clean also. People are coming and going; they could come with a few germs, pick up a few when with you (hopefully not), or leave a few. After each session, change the linens. Wash everything with a disinfectant or 1% bleach solution. Whatever you choose, its gotta be clean.
I hope you found this post helpful. Please leave your comments below and check out other posts.
The next post will focus on the first step in a reflexology session. This focus will cover two posts.
Thanks again.

Who Shouldn’t Receive a Session, and Why (Contraindications) Part 1 of 2
Cancer Patients
Reflexology for the Spirit is wonderful for cancer patients. It’s now offered in many hospitals throughout the country. However, patients receiving chemotherapy shouldn’t receive reflexology for 48 hours after the end of a chemotherapy session. This is for your protection. The theory is that the patient is toxic for 48 hours after receiving chemotherapy. If you decide to offer a session to a patient in less than 48 hours, please wear gloves.
Pregnant Women
Women in the first trimester of pregnancy experiencing an unstable pregnancy should not receive reflexology. Nothing is more wonderful than a reflexology session offered to a woman who is in her 7th month of pregnancy and has not seen her feet for a couple of months and still has 2 months to go. The rule is to avoid offering reflexology in the first trimester and stay on the bottom of the feet when you offer sessions thereafter. If you have any concerns, switch to Reiki therapy. Reiki therapy is wonderful for pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy.
With a regular Reiki therapy client, you can offer sessions weekly and can offer to go with your client partner into the labor and delivery stages of the birth process. Then, of course, you have two clients.
Clients with Infectious Diseases
Infectious disease and/or fever sufferers should not receive Reflexology for the Spirit for your protection. To offer a session to someone in a contagious condition, consider some options: gloves, mask, etc.
Severe Congestive Heart Failure
This is a good time to use your Reiki therapy skills.
Gangrene
Gangrene occurs when a person’s cells begin to die in a particular place when there is no circulation in a certain place in the body. Gangrene is fairly rare but can be seen in cases of advanced diabetes. This situation requires a physician’s attention.
Thanks for reading today’s post. We will conclude the Contraindication Section in the next post. If you have any questions or comments, please contact me.
This post is coming to you from my healing space in scenic downtown Woodstock.

Arthritis and Reflexology for the Spirit, Continued
When an arthritis sufferer uses all the health care professionals available to him/her, the results are better. Fewer drugs will be consumed. That’s an important result.
A Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner deals with the problems presented by arthritis over the long haul. When working with an arthritis sufferer, you need to learn about all the things s/he can do in the self help arena. Try to learn all the things that the rheumatologist recommends. When you know these things, you can work with them. Know about recommended exercise therapy. How does acupuncture fit into the overall picture? What does the nutritionist recommend?
Optimum improvement depends on repeated, regular visits to the Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner’s table. The other specialists will “come and go” as needed in the client partner’s life. You, on the other hand, owill be seeing this person weekly.
Arthritis sufferers often postpone getting needed treatment necessary for relief. This is not a good approach. The sooner your client partner begins to aggressively combat arthritis, the better off s/he will be – even years down the line.
When working with an arthritis sufferer, regardless of the type, keep in mind that you are dealing with a person who cannot help being overly critical both of self and others. Many arthritis sufferers appear to harbor resentment and blame in many areas of life. This is a huge statement considering the number of people suffering with arthritis.
AREAS TO WORK: solar plexus, entire endocrine system, urinary system, immune system, nervous system, digestive system, circulatory system, liver, solar plexus and individual joints the client partner is suffering with.
ESSENTIAL OILS: wintergreen, peppermint, nutmeg, German chamomile, clove, copaiba, helichrysum, Idaho balsam fir, white fir, pine, eucalyptus globulus, frankincense, and myrrh are popular with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis sufferers.
Violet Flame Reiki therapy is appropriate for arthritis sufferers.
The next post will cover bunions.

More About What is Reflexology for the Spirit
What is Reflexology for the Spirit? In this post, we will offer more information about Reflexology for the Spirit, This should give you an in depth understanding of what Reflexology for the Spirit is all about.
Reflexology for the Spirit practitioners include spiritual observations as they manifest in the feet. They’re found:
in the different colors seen on the feet,
the locations of corns,
callouses,
bunions,
broken bones, etc.
What is Reflexology for the Spirit? Although the results of a reflexology session can be felt throughout the body, it’s not massage. Instead, practitioners manipulate the tissues of the hands, feet, and/or ears only.
An important goal of Reflexology for the spirit is Homeostasis.
Homeostasis is the return to balance of the entire body.
Encourage your client partners to schedule appointments within 1-2 days of other treatments they are receiving.
For example: if your client partner has a visit to the chiropractor,
physical therapist,
acupuncturist,
massage therapist,
or a yoga class,
please try to have him/her schedule an appointment with you within 24-48 hours before or after. This is the way to get the most value for your health care dollars. With Reflexology for the Spirit, 1 + 1 = 3.
Beginning with the next posts, we will highlight some:
specific conditions,
diseases/issues,
and treatments.
We will explain how Reflexology for the Spirit practitioners address the whole person. The next posts will be your tool box, Refer to them often.

What is Reflexology for the Spirit?
Reflexology for the Spirit works with reflex points (nerve endings) in the hands, feet, and ears corresponding to specific areas throughout the body. This book deals with the feet only, but the reflex points are also in the hands and ears (we leave these for the subject of another book). It’s a system which, when applied, may help many existing health conditions.
These reflex points offer a map which is both easy to read and use. The left side of the body is reflected in the left foot and the right side of the body is reflected in the right foot.
Reflexology for the Spirit is a natural whole body modality, so many people find they have an aptitude for this hands-on work.
We’re dealing with the energy links and systems of which our bodies are made. Students are often surprised at how logical the reflexology system is: the brain is read as a reflection in the toes, the lower spine is in the heel. The internal organs are in the spaces in between. This is exciting stuff.
The first place a disease or imbalance can be detected and subsequently treated is in the feet. Reflexology for the Spirit practitioners often detect ailments, problems, and diseases before they manifest symptoms anywhere else in the body. These are described as crystals, resistance, mushiness, emptiness, hollows, etc. They also can be felt through the sensations the client partner experiences.
The next post will complete the opening portion of this chapter. After that, we’ll be discussing specific health issues: allergies, anxieties, MS, stress, to name only a few.
