The Spirituality of the Intestines
We are only beginning to explore the true influence the Intestine has on our physical, spiritual, mental, emotional well being. Not only is the intestine the place where food and nutrients are absorbed, but this is also the place where we assimilate, absorb, and process our reality.
The intestine is the body’s largest sensory organ with a strong connection to the brain. The intestine sends more messages to the brain than it receives from the brain. With all this communication between the brain and the intestine, the intestine works to keep informed of what’s happening in the body. The intestine influences, keeps the brain aware of pain, fatigue, nausea.
What this means is that your intestine tells you how to think, how you experience pain, what kind of energy you have, and how much sleep you get. This impact on the entire body means that the intestine is very important to our overall perception of how you feel.
In order to be in the best physical, mental, emotional, spiritual health possible, it’s important to honor the brain-intestine relationship. Eating the best possible diet will promote the balance your body needs in order to achieve the best health possible.
Not everyone needs the same diet. Different bodies have different needs. However, there are some guidelines. A healthy diet is low in fat, sugar, calories and high in fiber, fresh fruits, vegetables. Eat real, whole food which is as close to natural as possible.
Find out which probiotics are best for you and take them. Our understanding of the function of gut bacteria is not advanced. Frankly, we are in the learning stages of how the bacteria in our gut affect our overall health. In a few years we’ll all know a lot more and we’ll all be healthier for the knowledge.
Our intestine has a language. This language includes:
the emotions we feel.
our search for homeostasis.
our immune system.
our conscious desires for food and/or drugs.
how we react to stress.
peristalsis.
Find a quiet, safe place where you can talk to your intestine. Sit quietly as you get comfortable. Turn on some music you are comfortable with.
Breathe into your intestine as you take deep breaths.
As you breathe into your intestine, talk to your body to encourage homeostasis.
As you exhale, ask your intestine to release issues which prevent ultimate good health for you and your body.
As you breathe in and breathe out, examine your relationship to food. Talk to your intestine to allow less controversy and emotion to enter into the act of eating.
As you breathe in and breathe out, explore your connection between love and food. How does this affect your intestine and its communication with your brain?
As you breathe in and breathe out, listen to your intestine to learn what it needs to help your body, mind, and soul be healthier.
After a few minutes, thank your intestine for any and all information you received. If you have not received any information which you understand, know that you will receive knowledge which you can use in the coming hours and days.
You can return to this dialogue with your intestine whenever and however you need. Your intestine offers insight and wisdom about your health. It is ready to share this information when you can receive it.

Spirituality of the Eyes
We perceive our world through our eyes. This perception is more than just seeing what is around us. It’s an emotional/spiritual response to what we comprehend, feel, know, sense. We know our surroundings through what we see.
What we see is influenced by our upbringing, education, religious beliefs, experiences. No two people see something the same way. We all experience life events with our own biases based on experiences we’ve had throughout our lives. This includes everything done to us by others and everything we have done to others in both this life and past lives.
We also see our inner selves…our true feelings. Except when we don’t. Often, when things are too painful, we develop distorted observations of reality in order to make life more acceptable to ourselves. Sometimes, we also develop spiritual vision as well and need glasses. Inner (spiritual) changes will affect our vision accordingly.
Distorted vision blocks the intensity, danger, anger, impact, of a situation to make it more acceptable. Distorted vision allows us to retreat from the harshness of the situation as we move into a more private inner world.
Cataracts are common in the elderly. Cataracts work wonders for those who want to distance themselves from the details, struggles, and a fearful future. Cataracts help when we see too much helplessness, sickness, and loneliness.
Glaucoma deals with issues created by unshed tears, blocked and repressed emotions. Like Cataracts, Glaucoma becomes part of our lives when we fear the changes that the future is bringing to us. This is especially true if the changes are beyond our control and the future appears bleak. Glaucoma often deals with past life issues.
Spend a few moments each day focusing on what’s right in your life.
Find a quiet, safe place where you can go for a few minutes each day. Cover your eyes with a soft cloth or use an eye pillow. Turn on some quiet, regenerating music as you meditate for a few moments on healing and regenerating your eyes as well as your entire body. Ask yourself to focus on strength, vitality, flexibility. Ask the universe for homeostasis – the balance of all your organs.
Ground yourself for a few moments and then begin to release anger, distrust, fear, frustration, irritation, problems, negativity in your life.
Now might be a good time to shed some of the tears which you have been unable to shed in the past. You may be able to do this if you feel safe enough.
Offer forgiveness as you move forward with positive thoughts into your future.
Your goal is to free yourself of the negativity in your life.

The Spirituality of Blood
Blood is very exciting stuff.
For one thing, we can’t live without it. If we’re in an accident, and lose too much blood, we will die.
Blood tells the whole story. Often, when we visit the physician, a blood test is ordered. The story is here: our past, our present, our future.
In the womb, we shared our mother’s blood, who shared her mother’s blood, who shared her mother’s blood, and on and on and on to the beginning of time.
That being said, each person’s blood is unique. Like fingerprints, no 2 blood profiles are the same. And, blood changes with life events, nutrition, age. Because of this, there are many issues with blood:
high or low pressure,
circulation,
arteriosclerosis
thrombosis,
stroke
hemorrhage,
varicose vein,
anemia.
If you find yourself dealing with one of the above diseases, you are dealing with a spiritual disease. That doesn’t mean you forget the professional medical practitioner. It does mean that you do what that practitioner tells you to do and you deal with the spirituality issues in other ways.
When I think of the spirituality of blood, questions come to mind:
Have you recently found or lost a loved one?
Are you depressed?
Where are the conflicts in your life?
Are you nourishing yourself sufficiently?
Are you under a lot of pressure?
Are you angry?
Is someone or something threatening you?
Are you rigid with yourself and others?
Do you need to become gentler with yourself and others?
Are you afraid?
Are your life patterns stuck?
Does your lifestyle go against your beliefs?
Is too much going on in your life?
Are there too many people in your life?
What, if anything, is draining your energy?
Now might be a good time to try to deal with these questions one-by-one.
In order to develop the spirituality of your blood, proper diet is extremely important. Don’t just go to the grocery or the pharmacy and buy vitamins and minerals haphazardly. Find a nutritional consultant and get what you need.
No one diet fits all. Find the diet best for you…makes you feel better, helps maintain your weight, results in better blood test results. Your goal is to live a life bringing strength, vitality, purity to your blood.
Guided meditations can be instrumental for spiritual healing.
If you are a Reiki practitioner, give yourself sessions in which you offer an intent to heal and regenerate your blood to its optimum state. If you are not a Reiki practitioner, now is a good time to find one. This might even be a good time to learn Reiki therapy for yourself.
As your blood begins to experience this optimum state, you’ll invite joy, free expression, creativity, balance in your life.
Reflexology for the Spirit sessions are appropriate here. Homeostasis is necessary for the blood and for life in general. Reiki and reflexology work hand-in-hand here to help achieve the spiritual health our bodies need….no, crave.

The Spirituality of the Adrenal Glands

People sometimes have issues with the adrenal glands and are unable to identify them as needing balance.
A few tip offs include:
Fatigue
Having experienced so much stress and trauma that you are stuck in the fight-or-flight response.
Panic attacks.
Fear.
Anxiety.
We each have 2 adrenal glands. One is perched atop each kidney. Because there are 2, they come under the category of body parts needing balance. Other body parts needing balance include lungs, and kidneys.
Adrenals are very spiritual third chakra glands which we feel when we experience butterflies in our stomach. Adrenals are part of the endocrine system which also emphasizes their spiritual qualities. The adrenals process fear, anger, excitement and stress overload.,
If your your adrenals need to be balanced, go to a quiet, safe space where you will not be interrupted and get comfortable. Turn on some relaxing music if you like.
Breathe in deeply as you inhale calm. Breathe slowly – deeply – consciously.
As you exhale, breathe out anxiety.
Breathe in positive energy.
Exhale as you release fatigue.
Inhale peace.
As you exhale, let go of all your fears.
Inhale nurturing energy.
Release any panic you may feel as you exhale.
When you feel grounded, place your hands 1″ to 3″ above your body over the area of your adrenals. Hold your hands here for a couple of minutes as you give them a chance to communicate with your body in general and your adrenal glands in particular.
What information are you receiving? Do you feel tingling, heat, cold, nothing? Whatever you feel is good and appropriate for this time and place. Continue this communication for a few minutes until you feel it’s time to finish the session. Now, breathe deeply as you inhale and exhale several times.
The information you receive may not be apparent immediately. It may be several minutes, hours or days before you receive a message. You may receive the communication in a dream.
The important thing is to be open to receiving the information you need whenever and however it comes.
If possible, arrange to receive some Reiki therapy sessions focused on your adrenal health. In addition to Usui Reiki, 2 forms of Reiki appropriate for the adrenals are Lightarian and Gendai.
Essential Oils which work well for adrenal gland function include clove, frankincense, German chamomile, nutmeg, and spikenard.
Weekly Reflexology for the Spirit sessions will encourage homeostasis.

The pituitary gland enhances a reflexology session many ways as it controls the endocrine system.
The pituitary gland is located in almost the center of the brain. As manager of the endocrine system, it sends messages to the other glands. The pituitary gland also releases hormones which trigger physical and emotional actions.
When you work the pituitary gland reflex, several things happen:
The pituitary gland secretes hormones controlling, coordinating, and regulating the function of endocrine glands throughout the body.
The glands of the endocrine system include:
thyroid gland
parathyroid glands
pancreas
adrenal glands
ovaries/testes
The pituitary gland reflexes are found on both feet in the center of the pad of the big toe.

5 Ways theThyroid Reflexes Enhance a Reflexology Session

When I think of the thyroid, I always think of the gas pedal of a car because the thyroid regulates the metabolic rates, monitors the pulse rates, and controls the amount of oxygen used.
It’s important to keep the thyroid balanced because people suffering with overactive or underactive thyroid are miserable. The fatigue of a person suffering with an underactive thyroid is not to be described. It affects the entire body including the brain.
When you reflex the thyroid reflex points, several things happen:
Metabolic rates are regulated.
Muscle tension is balanced.
The pulse rate is regulated.
Calcium levels are controlled.
Phosphorus level is regulated.
The thyroid is found at the base of the neck in the body. The thyroid reflex is found on the soles of both feet. It is below the first and second toes in a crease on the pad of the foot.

9 Ways the Kidneys Enhance a Reflexology Session
The kidneys are fascinating glands which regulate fluids in the body and purify blood. There is an interesting note here. When we perspire, our body acts as if our sweat glands are a third kidney because the chemical composition of perspiration is the same as urine.
One kidney reflex point is found on each foot. The reflex point is located in the center area of the arch. The adrenal gland reflex sits right on top of the kidney reflex point.
When you reflex the kidney points, several things happen:
The kidneys process fluid wastes.
Waste eliminating functions are stimulated.
Blood is purified.
Fluid balances are regulated.
Blood pressure is regulated.
Uric acid production is regulated.
Blood circulation is stimulated.
Kidneys flush themselves out.
Water levels in the body are regulated.

14 Ways the Adrenal Glands Enhance a Reflexology Session
The adrenal glands are 2 small endocrine glands found over the tops of the kidneys. The adrenal gland reflexes are found on both feet. They are third chakra glands, best known for creating the “fight or fight” reaction humans experience in emergencies. They also give us butterflies. So, with these two reactions, we actually feel these glands.
Adrenal glands do much more than create butterflies. When you address the adrenal glands points, several things happen:
The glands secrete hydrocortisone, to support inflammation reduction.
Air passages open as the adrenal glands secrete cortisone.
Glands regulate kidney functions and release hydrocortisone.
Glands enhance the muscle tone of the digestive organs.
Adrenal glands fight fatigue.
Tissue swelling is reduced.
Alertness is accelerated.
Sodium and potassium levels are balanced, normalizing blood pressure and heartbeat.
The muscle tone of the heart is influenced.
Kidneys begin to flush, offering a mild detox action.
Sodium and potassium levels are controlled.
Breast tissue swelling is reduced.
Premenstrual bloating and swelling is reduced.
Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates is regulated.
Adrenal gland reflexes are found on both feet just above the kidney reflexes.

Reflexology for the Spirit and Diabetes
If you’ve been following these blog posts, you may have noticed that diabetes is on the list of risk factors for heart disease. Many people suffring with diabetes develop other diseases:
Heart disease,
Kidney failure,
Strokes,
Blindness.
The risk factors for diabetes are:
Obesity,
Lack of physical exercise,
High blood pressure,
High triglycerides,
Low HDL Cholesterol,
Family history of diabetes.
Type 1 Diabetes usually comes on very suddenly and strikes people 30 years and under. It’s an autoimmune disorder. It can be triggered by a viral infection (mumps) or by chemical toxins such as those found in meats. A primary risk factor for Type I Diabetes is a family history of Type I Diabetes. Type I Diabetes occurs when the pancreases produces little or no insulin. Type I diabetics self-inject insulin and test their blood sugar levels several times daily.
WITH PROPER MONITORING, DIABETICS FEEL WELL AND ARE ABLE TO REDUCE DAMAGE TO KIDNEYS, EYES, NERVES, BLOOD VESSELS.
Diabetes is a spiritual disease affecting, at first, the endocrine and digestive systems. It’s definitely on the rise. Diabetes creates long term complications including heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, high blood pressure, amputations, and dental disease.
Type II Diabetes develops at a somewhat later age. The majority of people with Diabetes suffer from Type II.
The best luck with this disease lies in:
careful meal planning,
regular exercise,
weight loss,
close monitoring with your healthcare team.
People at risk of developing Type II Diabetes include those who are obese, have high blood pressure, have high cholesterol, do not exercise, and who are over 45 years old.
PLEASE NOTE: THIS NUMBER IS COMING DOWN BECAUSE OF THE NUMBER OF CHILDREN DEVELOPING TYPE II DIABETES.
It’s important for people suffering from either Type I or Type II Diabetes to quit smoking, become interested in cholesterol and blood pressure control, exercise regularly, and see their healthcare team members regularly. Ideally, the healthcare team consists of a primary healthcare provider (physician, nurse practitioner ),
opthalmologist, reflexologist, periodontist, dietitian, and exercise trainer. As the disease progresses, a cardiologist and nephrologist need to be added to the list.
Diabetics definitely benefit from routine Reflexology for the Spirit sessions. They: reduce stress,
encourage more efficient kidney function,
help lower cholesterol and blood pressure levels,
assist the blood circulation to the feet.
It is more helpful for the client who is in the early stages of the disease so complications can be prevented as long as possible.
If you are going to offer Reflexology for the Spirit to people suffering from diabetes, you need to learn about the medical emergencies that diabetics have to deal with. Also, please advise your Diabetic client partners to test their levels after every session.
ALWAYS NOTE THE CONDITION OF FEET AND TOES. Look for thick toenails, patchy areas of gangrene. Is the sense of touch and pain perception altered by feeling loss?
Your client-partner may not know about ulcers, sores, cracks on the feet. Discuss your observations with him/her.
When you work the feet of Diabetic patients, work all body systems to include the endocrine, cardiovascular, urinary, digestive, immune, sense organs, liver and solar plexus.
ESSENTIAL OILS: cinnamon, clove, coriander, dill, fennel, lemongrass.

Reflexology for the Spirit and Cancer
This post is part of the series on the Big Five Diseases.
For cancer prevention, the story is pretty much the same as for heart disease. Get the cholesterol in the healthy range. Get the exercise program going to shed the excess weight.
Cancer is a group of diseases, actually. So, when we talk cancer, we talk about more than just one illness.
DIET IS IMPORTANT IN CANCER PREVENTION. There is a correlation between fat and meat and cancer. Add fruits and vegetables to your diet and add plenty of fiber. Avoid excess sun exposure. Use sunscreen. Take your vitamins. Skip the tobacco.
One factor contributing to cancer is extreme stress tolerated over a long period of time.
Other risk factors include secondhand smoke, air pollution, workplace exposure to chemicals, exposure to radon gas, heavy alcohol consumption, obesity, overexposure to sun, sedentary lifestyle, age, family history, polyps in the colon, diet low in fiber and antioxidents, and diabetes.
Offering a Reflexology for the Spirit session 48 hours after a client partner has received chemotherapy will help him/her feel much better. This person will experience a deep sense of relaxation and an opportunity for the body to return to balance through encouraging homeostasis.
When someone you know suffers with cancer, encourage him/her to continue all treatments the allopathic specialists have to offer. Your job is to assist your client partner and support him/her in the return to homeostasis through the other treatments s/he receives.
Reflexology for the Spirit does not replace allopathic cancer treatments. Your sessions with cancer patients can be very effective when combined with Reiki therapy and essential oils. Reiki therapy can be offered daily. As a practitioner working with a cancer patient, you’re dealing not only with the physical parts of the disease but also the emotional and spiritual aspects: fear, anger, rage, helplessness, abandonment.
ESSENTIAL OILS: balsam fir, Canadian red cedar, clove, dill, galbanum, grapefruit, hyssop, lemon, myrtle, nutmeg, orange, patchouli, sandalwood, tarragon, thyme, tsuga, valerian
When using essential oils on a cancer patient, consult with an aromatherapist to choose the proper oil for the particular type of cancer your client has.
Work all body systems including the liver and solar plexus.
