Reflexology Blog – Heartburn
Heartburn usually is brought on by eating too quickly or eating too much at a meal.
MILLIONS OF PEOPLE SUFFER WITH HEARTBURN EVERYDAY.
People at risk of heartburn attacks include smokers who are also overweight. There Things can be done to alleviate the discomfort:
Give up large meals. Instead of three large meals, switch to four to six smaller ones.
Avoid fatty, high calorie foods. Dietary fat has a tendency to make people more sensitive to heartburn.
Steer clear of foods which may cause heartburn: carbonated drinks, chocolate, coffee, alcohol, mint (spearmint and peppermint), onions, oranges, tomatoes.
Include walking in your daily activities.
Wear more comfortable clothing.
And, often silently, hiatal hernias play a part in the heartburn story somehow. Many of us, maybe even half of us, have hiatal hernias. We are often unaware that we have one. However, if your heartburn is persistent, ask your healthcare provider it this might be contributing to your problems..
Spiritually, heartburn sufferers find life too bitter to bear. They can no longer stomach the situation.
Reflexology helps with the anxiety and stress of everyday life which often contribute to heartburn.
When offering reflexology to a person suffering with heartburn, begin the session by working the solar plexus and diaphragm reflexes.
Work the entire endocrine system.
Work the entire digestive system as you focus on the stomach reflexes.
Work the entire nervous system.
End the session by focusing on the liver and the solar plexus.

Caution! Gallstones Can be Very Painful!
Anybody who has ever known anyone with gallstones will pay attention to the causes of this very painful situation. And, the causes are pretty straight forward:
cholesterol in the bile
obesity
alcohol consumption
cirrhosis
So, just for starters, if you’re concerned about gallstones, get out there and exercise.
EAT VEGETABLES, VEGETABLES, AND VEGETABLES.
Many people have gallstones without the symptoms so if you think you might have them, go right ahead with the diet and exercise.
I don’t have to write this, because gallstones are so painful, but…if you have severe pain which might be in your gallbladder area, it’s really necessary to be under a physician’s care. Even the most severe holdouts will go to the doctor willingly with gallstones.
THE SPIRITUAL ASPECTS OF A GALLSTONE ATTACK ARE PRETTY EASY TO UNDERSTAND. People suffering with gallstones are also suffering with anger, fear, irritability, resentment. A person suffering with gallstones is having trouble finding not only a person to blame but is also having trouble with forgiveness. With gallstone sufferers, this situation has been going on for a fairly long time.
When offering a reflexology session to a person concerned about gallstones, begin by working the entire digestive system with a focus liver reflex.
Focus on the gallbladder reflex.
Work the intestinal reflex.
Work the endocrine system.
Finish the session with a focus on the liver and solar plexus.
As always, thank you for reading this post.

Anxiety Affects Many People Both Physically and Spiritually
ANXIETY AFFECTS CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND ADULTS. Anxiety is the word used to describe feelings ranging from mild unease to intense fear.
ANXIETY CREATES A VARIETY OF SYMPTOMS BOTH PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL. Common physical symptoms include heart palpitations, stabbing pains, shortness of breath, headaches, back pains, and muscle spasms. Excessive sweating, dizziness, digestive problems also are included in this lineup.
SPIRITUAL SYMPTOMS INCLUDE FEELINGS OF INSECURITY, FEAR, HELPLESSNESS. Spiritual issues also include preoccupation with the future and past. A person’s life has a flow which anxiety can get in the way of.
A person suffering with anxiety needs, first, to learn to try to overcome the fear which plagues anxiety sufferers. Getting proper medical care as well as nutritional advice along with reflexology can help.
Because anxiety has a strong physical aspect to it, it’s important for the sufferer to be aware of the proper nutritional needs in addition to the needed medical care. This involves eating the proper foods, recognizing what food allergies exist, and identifying the needed vitamins and minerals necessary for a recovery.
MANY PEOPLE CAN LESSEN THEIR SYMPTOMS BY ELIMINATING CAFFEINE, SUGAR, AND ALCOHOL FROM THE DIET.
I always recommend calling Liz at Village Vitality (Woodstock Apothecary) for an analysis of vitamins and minerals needed. Her number is 845-679-0790.
When offering reflexology sessions to a person suffering with anxiety attacks, the first step is to work the entire endocrine system to balance the spiritual aspects of the issues.
Work the nervous system.
Work the digestive system and focus on the pancreas reflexes.
Work the endocrine system and focus on the pituitary gland reflexes, the thyroid and parathyroid reflexes.
Finish the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

Reflexology Blog – Digestive System
THE DIGESTIVE PROCESS BEGINS WHEN WE CHEW OUR FOOD. It continues as the body breaks down the food we eat and turns it into subtances which can be absorbed and used for growth, repair, energy.
The digestive system is composed principally of the mouth, pharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, small intestine, large intestine, rectum, and the anal canal.
IT IS EMOTIONAL AND IS QUICK TO TELL US IF IT ‘S NOT WORKING PROPERLY. That is one strong argument for reflexology sessions. They bring about homeostasis which is important to digestive health. We have a tendency to hold worry in our stomach.
Once food is eaten, it travels down the pharynx and esophagus to the stomach. When the food leaves the stomach it moves to the small intestine. This is where most of the nutrients are absorbed. This is also where fear can find a safe place.
What actually happens in the process of digestion regarding the food and the interaction of the food with the chemicals and how the body absorbs the resulting nutrients is complicated. This process is not completely understood by many people.
A good description can be found in several chapters of “The South Beach Diet” by Dr. Frank Agatston in which he describes the digestive very thoroughly using a vocabulary we can all understand.
Finally, the large intestine moves the undigested and unabsorbable food to the anal canal and rectum where it is excreted.
Eating and digesting food is not just about getting nutrition. It’s a very spiritual process. How do we assimilate things that are happening in our lives and in the world around us? Our digestive system not only absorbs nutrients and discards those things not needed but we also use our digestive system to absorb feelings, sensations, experiences. When we are forced to hold back our feelings, it’s reflected in our digestive health.
It has been said that health begins and ends in the intestinal tract. It is true that an unhappy, angry, frustrated person has a much harder time maintaining digestive balance and health.
WHEN WE WORK THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM REFLEXES, WE ENCOURAGE THEM TO NORMALIZE THE FLOW OF DIGESTING FOOD THROUGH THE SYSTEM.
Although all the parts of the digestive system are very important in a Reflexology for the Spirit session, work the liver during every session. The liver is a large organ and it has a bigger job to do because it’s a detoxing machine. People are becoming more toxic because of the pesticides in our food, the toxins in our air and water, and the things we eat which aren’t really food.
Pay special attention to the large intestine when offering a Reflexology for the Spirit session. Maintaining a healthy large intestine is extremely important to your client’s overall health.

Menopause
What can I say? Two words that come to mind about menopause:
explore
discover
FOR STARTERS, VERY LITTLE IS ACTUALLY KNOWN ABOUT MENOPAUSE. Each woman experiences it differently. It’s a time when the body begins to change and there’s not much we can do beyond just try to enjoy the trip.
If you spent your 30s and 40s caring for others and putting your needs on hold, you can now find out what you want to do in life, find your passion.
Ask “What do I want out of life…for me?”
MAKE FRIENDS WITH YOURSELF. Follow your bliss! Become a gorgeous butterfly as you discover your new way of being and embrace this new chapter of your life.
As you become aligned with the new self which is emerging, try to be as healthy as possible. Nourish yourself with diet, exercise, Feed your spirit as well as your body.
COME OUT OF THIS CHANGE KNOWING YOURSELF MORE DEEPLY. Drop all the labels. Know who you are spiritually.
And, don’t forget the reflexology for the spirit sessions. Homeostasis is very important from here on out.
Open the menopause sessions with luscious foot warm ups.
Work the endocrine system to balance the body and soul during this important time in your life. Focus on the pituitary gland reflexes, the thyroid and parathyroid reflexes, the ovary reflexes, and the uterus reflexes.
Move to the nervous system and focus on the brain reflexes.
End the session with focus on the solar plexus and liver.

Infertility and Reflexology
EXPERIENCING INFERTILITY CAN BE DEVASTATING TO A COUPLE. People feel they’ve been victimized. Life sometimes ceases to have meaning for some. They become depressed, jealous. Marriages sometimes fall apart. People feel rejected, abandoned, inadequate, sad.
INFERTILITY HAS MANY CAUSES – both physical, and emotional: environmental, hormonal, genetic. Drug usage, stress, blocked fallopian tubes or testicles, unconscious fears, childhood abuse, can all contribute to infertility.
In this country, people don’t often think of reflexology to help with infertility issues. In other parts of the world, people trying to overcome infertility issues use the services of a reflexologist successfully.
If you’re offering reflexology to a couple dealing with infertility, begin the session by working the solar plexus and diaphragm reflexes.
Work the entire endocrine system and then focus on the pituitary gland reflexes, the ovary and testicle reflexes, and finally, the uterus and prostate reflexes.
Finish the session by returning to the solar plexus and then the liver reflexes.
REFLEXOLOGY SESSIONS NOT ONLY STIMULATE THE REPRODUCTIVE ORGANS BUT THEY ALSO HELP BALANCE ALL THE BODY SYSTEMS. This is extremely important to a couple trying to create new life.
AND, I OFFER A FINAL SUGGESTION. There are many reasons for infertility. Some are spiritual. This may be a time for you to review what may be your life path and goals. There are many, many children and other animals in dire need at this time on our planet. At the risk of totally upsetting everyone who reads this blog, I submit to you that possibly your path includes embracing one or more of these precious beings into your life instead of bringing a new life into embodiment.
IS THE UNIVERSE TELLING YOU SOMETHING? Listen carefully. There are many ways to use your caring, nurturing, and creative energy for the benefit of all mankind. There are many creatures in need of the love you have to offer.
On behalf of the many needy beings on this planet, I thank you for reading this blog/book.

Constipation – a Very Common Complaint
MARGE D’URSO TAUGHT ME THAT ABOUT 50% OF MY CLIENT-PARTNERS SUFFER FROM CONSTIPATION. She was not wrong. Many times, a person comes to my table suffering with constipation and doesn’t even tell me about it. However, over time, I hear about the situation when it’s in the past tense.
It is very difficult to receive regular reflexology sessions and suffer with constipation.
Constipation is often accompanied by gas and abdominal discomfort. Physical causes include improper diet, stress, dehydration.
PEOPLE SUFFERING WITH CONSTIPATION OFTEN HAVE DIFFICULTY LETTING GO OF THE PAST – EVENTS, BELIEFS.
People suffering with constipation can be very controlling.
People suffering with constipation can have relationships that need to end, jobs they need to leave, anger they need to let go of……
When offering Reflexology for the Spirit to a client partner suffering with constipation, begin by working the solar plexus and diaphragm.
Work the digestive system as you focus on the pancreas, liver, gallbladder, and intestinal reflexes.
Work the endocrine system as you focus on the adrenal gland reflexes.
Finish the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

A Very Common but Rarely Discussed Health Issue – Hemorrhoids
AS WE AGE, MORE AND MORE OF US SUFFER WITH HEMORRHOIDS. This makes sense when we realize that aging is part of the situation. Spiritually, as we age, some of us develop an inability to let go of life events. We develop a feeling that life has been unfair as we become critical of ourselves as well as others. Fear is always a factor in hemorrhoids. Fear, anger, lack of self-confidence Many of us cling to beliefs, opinions that are outdated.
ON A PHYSICAL LEVEL, HEMORRHOIDS ARE VARICOSE VEINS IN THE RECTUM AND ANUS AREAS. They are considered to be harmless unless they become infected or rupture. So, hemorrhoids become a part of our daily lives as the bowel movement becomes slower than we want and more difficult.
CHRONIC CONSTIPATION, PERSISTENT DIARRHEA, PROLONGED SITTING, PREGNANCY, AND ANAL INTERCOURSE CONTRIBUTE TO HEMORRHOIDS. Softening the stool, eating a high fiber diet, and being hydrated, help prevent hemorrhoids.
WHEN YOU OFFER REFLEXOLOGY TO A PERSON SUFFERING WITH HEMORRHOIDS, begin by working the digestive system as you focus on the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder reflexes.
Work the endocrine system as you focus on the adrenal gland reflexes.
Work the intestinal reflexes.
Finish the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

Cirrhosis – indeed, a spiritual disease
THE LIVER PERFORMS MANY MORE FUNCTIONS THAN WE HUMANS KNOW ABOUT OR UNDERSTAND. It’s an emotional organ, and a quite large organ at that.
MORE WOMEN SUFFER FROM CIRRHOSIS THAN MEN. And, although we think of cirrhosis as a disease of alcoholics, it’s not always necessary to drink oneself into this disease. Spiritually, the liver begins to break down and cirrhosis rears its ugly head when a person experiences frustration, aggression, rage, guilt, fear. Sometimes, when a person begins to sabotage personal progress, cirrhosis becomes a reality. In any event, the constant inner struggles encourage the disease.
LIFE EVENTS CAN CONTRIBUTE TO CIRRHOSIS. They include long term exposure to toxic chemicals, infection with Hepatitis B, C, D, or E, medication with steroids.
Reflexology helps bring about homeostasis which can be very important for the cirrhosis sufferer’s well-being.
When offering reflexology to a person suffering with cirrhosis, begin with the endocrine system and focus on the thyroid and parathyroid glands.
Work the digestive system as you focus on the liver and gallbladder reflexes.
Work the urinary system as you focus on the kidney reflexes.
End the session by working the liver again and the solar plexus.

The Endocrine System – very important for both physical and spiritual health
THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM IS MADE UP OF A SERIES OF GLANDS INCLUDING SEVERAL GLANDS WHICH WORK TOGETHER TO MAINTAIN HOMEOSTASIS. They include the hypothalamus, pituitary, pineal, thyroid, parathyroids, thymus, adrenals, pancreas, and ovaries/testes. In addition to working to maintain homeostasis, the glands of the endocrine system work together to regulate our metabolism, growth, reproduction, and body chemistry.
Endocrine glands secrete hormones directly into the bloodstream. They work with other body systems and are important to the overall function of a person in everyday life. It’s important that the different Endocrine glands work well.
THE HYPOTHALAMUS, PITUITARY, AND PINEAL GLANDS ARE LOCATED IN THE BRAIN IN THE AREA BEHIND THE EYES. They all three interact with the nervous system. It’s believed that the hypothalamus controls the “mother” gland because it’s believed to coordinate the functions of the other endocrine glands in addition to regulating growth, blood pressure, and sexual development.
When a person is stressed emotionally and spiritually, the pituitary reflex becomes sensitive. Sometimes it’s so sensitive to the reflexologist’s touch that it can’t be worked. When this happens, go to the pituitary gland reflex on the hands and work there.
The pineal gland produces melatonin which is responsible for sleep patterns. Many people believe the pineal gland functions as our “third eye” and works with our spiritual and psychic development.
THE THYROID AND PARATHYROID GLANDS ARE LOCATED AT THE BASE OF THE THROAT. They’re attached to the wind pipe with the thyroid in front and the parathyroids in back. The parathyroids are believed to control calcium and bone metabolism. The thyroid, a very important gland, coordinates how everything in our body works. The thyroid is to the body what the gas pedal is to a car. People with thyroid imbalances often experience anger.
The thymus is a gland located a couple of inches below the thyroid and parathyroids. This gland offers support to the immune system. Our thymus is a certain size when we are born and does not get much larger as we grow up and age. This leads some professionals to believe the thymus is more important in infanthood and childhood than in adulthood. Here again, we have a spiritual gland. The thymus works better when we feel more positive about ourselves.
The pancreas is partially an endocrine gland which works in close conjunction with the digestive system. The pancreas has two parts: endocrine and exocrine. The endocrine part of the pancreas is called the Islets of Langerhans. This is where insulin is produced.
THE ADRENALS ARE LOCATED ABOVE THE KIDNEYS. They work closely with the nervous system to maintain fluid and mineral balance. The adrenals are easily felt because we experience them as “butterflies” in our stomach when we are suddenly nervous. Prolonged stress overload has a negative effect on the adrenals. When the adrenals get overstressed it takes time and effort by the practitioner to return them to balance.
THE OVARIES IN THE FEMALE AND THE TESTES IN THE MALE ARE ENDOCRINE GLANDS. This is a point of creativity in the body. They are managed by the pituitary gland.
KEEPING THE VARIOUS ENDOCRINE GLANDS BALANCED IS IMPORTANT TO US ALL. Sometimes, when an endocrine gland is not balanced, our whole (physical, mental, spiritual, emotional) reflects this imbalance and is affected negatively by it. Reflexology for the Spirit sessions help balance our endocrine system.
AN EXAMPLE OF A NICE SESSION IS TO FOCUS THE ENTIRE SESSION ON THE ENDOCRINE SYSTEM. The importance of endocrine balance cannot be overestimated. One effective way to focus on the endocrine system is to offer rotations (about 10 rotations per point) to each of the endocrine glands in the following order: solar plexus, pituitary gland, thyroid, parathyroid, liver, adrenal glands, ovaries/testes. Then, finally, return to the solar plexus.
