5 Ways the Ovary Reflexes are Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

Brain Physical system

The ovaries are glands which secrete reproductive cells.  Women have 2 ovaries, each about the size of a walnut.  They are located in the lower portion  of the abdomen on either side of the uterus.

When the ovary reflexes are worked, the following things happen:

The ovaries regulate hormone secretions.

Blood and lymph circulation fights ovarian infections.

Reproductive cells are secreted.

Estrogen secretions fight effects of menopause.

Bone loss is discouraged.

The ovary reflexes are found on both feet.  The ovary spot is at the center of the flat part of the outside of the heel, just below the ankle bone.  Look for a small indentation.  This reflex point is sensitive on most everyone.

The pituitary gland enhances a reflexology session many ways as it controls the endocrine system.

Endocrine System

The pituitary gland is located in almost the center of the brain.  As manager of the endocrine system,  it sends messages to the other glands.  The pituitary gland also  releases hormones  which trigger physical and emotional actions.

When you work the pituitary gland reflex, several things happen:

The pituitary gland secretes hormones controlling, coordinating, and regulating  the function of endocrine glands throughout the body.

The glands of the endocrine system include:

thyroid gland

parathyroid glands

pancreas

adrenal glands

ovaries/testes

The pituitary gland reflexes are found on both feet in the center of the pad of the big toe.

3 Ways the Sciatic Nerve Reflexes are Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

nervous system chart

The sciatic nerves are part of the nervous system.  They control muscles used when we walk, run, stand, and balance.  The sciatic nerves go from the pelvis down the legs to the feet.

When the sciatic nerve reflexes are worked, the following things happen:

Muscles in the lower limbs relax.  This can be a wonderful experience for a person suffering with sciatica.

Sciatic nerves work to resist inflammation.

Sciatic nerve responses are soothed.

The sciatic nerve reflexes are found in an indentation under the inner and outer ankle bones.

4 Ways the Bladder is Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

Urinary System

After the kidneys filter out the toxins, salts, and wastes in the body, they convert them into urine.  The urine then travels  down the ureters to the bladder which holds it until it’s  voided.   Bile in the liver gives urine its  yellow color.

When you work the bladder reflex points, several things happen.

The bladder increases blood circulation to fight infection.

The bladder begins a mild flush.

The bladder washes toxic wastes out of the body.

The bladder passes stones.

The bladder reflex is located on both feet on the mound of the heel pad which is located on the medial side of the heel.

6 Ways the Ears are Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

Eyes and earsOur ears are sense organs.  And, of all the sense organs, they offer the broadest range of responsiveness.  We can hear sounds around corners and through walls.  Our ears respond to the slightest change in air pressure.  Our ears influence our sense of balance.

When we work the ear reflexes, several things happen:

Blood circulation is increased.

Infectious matter is encouraged to leave the ear.

Aural nerves are stimulated.

The body’s sense of balance is stabilized.

Damaged aural tissues are soothed.

Fluids in the ear canals are regulated.

4 Ways the Gallbladder is Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

Digestive SystemThe gallbladder digests food and processes nutrients.  It also stores bile from the liver.  The gallbladder is a small pear-shaped organ which can be found in the body behind the liver.  The gallbladder and the liver work together very closely.

When the gallbladder reflex points are worked, the following things happen.

The gallbladder  releases bile in the intestines, which offers a mild laxative.

As Bile is released, food breaks down.

The gallbladder flushes itself out.

Bile storage is regulated.

The gallbladder point is found on the sole of the right foot.  This point is beneath the 2 small toes about 1/4 of the way down the foot.

3 Ways the Sinuses are Enhanced in a Reflexology Session

Respiratory SystemThe sinuses are hollow cavities connected to the nose by tunnels.  They’re lined with tiny hairs and mucous membranes just the same as those in the nose.  Sinuses are a front line of defense against infection and  also contribute to the sounds of our voice.

When we work the sinus reflexes, several things happen:

Inflammation of the mucous membranes is discouraged.

Accumulated debris drains.

The sinuses are encouraged to fight infection.

The sinus reflex points are found on the fatty portion of all the toes on both feet.

7 Ways the Intestine Reflex Enhances a Reflexology Session

scan 22 001The intestine is the largest organ in the digestive system.  It’s over 25 feet long.  Once the food we eat leaves the stomach, it passes through the intestine as chyme.  The intestine absorbs the nutrients in the chyme as it  moves along toward the anus.

When the intestine reflexes are worked, several things happen:

Wastes are removed that might set off allergic reactions.

Both the large and small intestine are encouraged to contract regularly and remove wastes.

Excess gas is expelled.

Bile release is released so stones can be more easily passed out of the body.

Constipation is prevented.

The back flow of wastes is prevented.

The intestine reflexes are found on both feet.  They are found on the sole, from the top of the heel across the foot.  A landmark for finding the intestine is the cuboid notch.

5 Ways the Hip Reflexes Enhance a Session

Muscular SystemThe hips are connectors; they  connect  legs and the buttocks area to the body.

Built to hold the weight of the body, the hips are stronger than the shoulders.

When you work the hip reflexes, several things happen:

When the hip joints are stimulated, blood circulation is increased.

Muscles and nerves surrounding the hips are toned up.

Muscles are surrounding the hips are relaxed.

Clotting is prevented.

Swelling is relieved.

The hip reflex is located on both feet.  It is about 30% of the way up the foot from the heel on the outer edge of the foot.

6 Ways the Spinal Reflexes Enhance a Session

scan 3 001The spine is made up of 33 vertebrae.  The vertebrae are stacked vertically with discs between each one.  This column supports the skull while protecting the spinal cord which travels through the hollow center of the bones.

The spinal cord is an extension of the central nervous system of the brain.  It’s nerve fibers relay information to and from the brain and the rest of the body.  Think of the spinal cord as a switchboard.  It sends messages to the body causing emergency reactions.  When you pull your hand away from a hot object, you do so because of a message sent by your spinal cord, not your brain.

When you work the spinal  reflex points, several things happen:

The spine is motivated to enhance its flexibility.

Nervous responses are regulated.

Muscles surrounding the spinal cord relax .

Muscles around the sacroiliac relax.

The body’s nervous responses are soothed.

The spine is located on both feet on the inner edges (medial) from the base of the big toe down to the base of the heels.
