Reflexology For The Spirit

spirituality of one's health

Kidney Stones can be extremely painful.

Our kidneys are filters, removing  toxins from the blood and disposing of them in the  urine.  Stones form when the toxins are too concentrated and they begin to crystallize.  There are few things more painful than a kidney stone on the move.

There are a number of things a person can do to prevent kidney stones.

The first thing a person can do to reduce stones is to stay hydrated.  This means drinking fluids…fluids of any kind.  Water is a preferred fluid because it dilutes the urine.  If you don’t like the flavor of water, try adding some lemon juice.

Don’t gain weight.  Obesity contributes to kidney stones.

Reduce fructose and sucrose.  The higher the consumption of sugar, the higher the risk of stones.

Eat more whole grains, beans, nuts, and seeds.  The higher your consumption of foods rich in phylates, the lower the risk of kidney stones.

Lastly, eat more foods rich in magnesium:  spinach, chard, mustard greens.  The more magnesium rich foods you eat, the lower your risk of kidney stones.  Taking 200 to 400 milligrams daily of magnesium is a good idea.

On a spiritual level, kidney stones accompany hardness, negativity, fear, regrets, rigidity.  People carrying painful memories and living in past seem to suffer with kidney stones.  I see some past life issues with kidney issues.  Sadness and fear  traveling from lifetime to lifetime accompany stones and other kidney issues.

And, finally, don’t forget regular reflexology sessions.

Begin by working the endocrine system with emphasis on the pituitary gland reflexes, thyroid reflexes, parathyroid reflexes, and adrenal gland reflexes.

Work the immune system with emphasis on the spleen.

Work the urinary  system emphasizing the kidney reflexes, bladder, ureter, and urethra reflexes.

Work the lymphatic system.

Finish up the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

Searching for the Fountain of Youth? Eat Foods and use Essential Oils High in Antioxidents.

So, what are antioxidents anyway?  Antioxidents are chemicals in food which fight free radicals.  A popular theory is that we age because of the free radicals which cause oxidation.  In other words, we rust.

This oxidation process damages our cells and tissues, allowing diseases such as heart disease, alzheimers, cancer to invade our bodies.  It’s possible to take antioxident pills but studies show that eating the foods high in antioxidents is more effective.

If your health interests include a longer, healthier life go for the food.  Choose foods with a high Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC).

Try to eat five servings daily of foods high in antioxidents:  alfalfa sprouts, avocado, baked beans, blackberries, blueberries, broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cherries, cranberries, garlic, kale, kiwi, onions,  oranges, plums, prunes, raisins,  raspberries, red peppers, spinach, strawberries, white grapes.

Some essential oils also have significant to high ORAC counts.  If you use essential oils, you might as well choose those with  ORAC counts:  Anise,  Basil, Black Pepper,  Blue Cypress, Blue Tansy, Cardamom,  Cassia, Cedarwood, Celery Seed,  Canadian  Cinnamon Bark, Cistus, Citronella, Clary Sage, Clove, Coriander, Cumin, Cypress, Dill, Douglas Fir, Eucalyptus Citriodora, Eucalyptus Globulus, Fennel, Fleabane, Frankincense (Boswellia carteri), Galbanum, German Chamomile, Ginger, Goldenrod, Grapefruit, Helichrysum, Hyssop, Idaho Balsam Fir, Juniper, Kaffir Lime,  Laurus Nobilis, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Lime, Mandarin, Manuka, Marjoram, Melaleuca Cajeput, Melaleuca Ericifolia, Melaleuca Quinquenervia, Melissa, Mountain Savory, Myrrh, Myrtle, Nutmeg, Orange, Oregano, Palmarosa, Patchouli, Peppermint, Petitgrain, Roman Chamomile,  Rose, Rosemary, Rosewood, Sage, Spearmint, Spikenard, Thyme, Tsuga, Vetiver, White Fir, Wintergreen, Yarrow.

While you are doing this, please don’t forget that weekly reflexology sessions encourage homeostasis which is extremely important for continued good health.

In the Kitchen – What are Some of the Best, Healthiest Foods to Have on Hand?

Hippocrates is believed to have said that our food should be our medicine and our medicine should be our food.

As we work to stay healthy and live long lives, this statement cannot be overdone.

What are some of the best foods we can eat as we work to stay healthy?  An important component in this statement is that we tend to eat what we keep in our kitchens.  So the question isn’t what are some of the best foods to eat but, rather, what are some of the best foods to keep in our kitchen?

Begin with leafy greens:  spinach, kale, watercress, and arugula.  These leafy jewels help clear our arteries of cholesterol, reduce blood pressure, and lower our risks of cancer.

Cancer fighting greens include broccoli, kale, cabbage, Brussel sprouts.

If we’re concerned about heart disease, some forms of cancer, and immune system power, onions and garlic top the list.

Big cholesterol fighters include nuts.

Yogurt is important for its probiotics,  important for digestion.  For vegetarians, yogurt is a good source of protein as well.  It’s also a fermented product which we don’t get enough of.

Yellow and orange foods strengthen our blood vessels, cartilage, tendons, and ligaments.  They also  help prevent allergies, inflammation, and strengthen veins and arteries.  Yellow and orange foods include oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, gratefruit, papaya, pineapple, and nectarines.

White and green foods are anti-inflammatory, anti cancer, fight allergies and asthma.  Again, think onions and garlic.

Green tea has powerful anti cancer properties.  Green tea is believed to be more powerful than Vitamins C and E.

An important concept to remember is that your body is made up of whatever you put in your mouth.

When asked if we eat a healthy diet, the most popular  response is usually  “Yes.”  But, for three days, step back from your diet and look at each food you cook with, serve, and eat as if you had never seen it before.  Read the labels.  Ask yourself objectively:  is this food really good for me?  If the answer is “no” or “I’m not sure”, do some research.  Eliminate from your diet those foods  which are not good for you.

The goal is to not get caught in the trap of eating products manufactured to be eaten which are, in fact, not food.  The goal is to eat the food.

Asthma – a Very Real Spiritual Disease

Asthma is a condition involving severe breathing difficulty due to allergies, emotional and/or spiritual stress as well as other issues.  Asthma  attacks include shortness of breath, cough, generalized wheezing, and abnormal breathing.

Spiritually, people suffering with asthma seem, to me, to be trying too hard to please others.  When people are trying to be perfect, they sometimes have trouble standing up for themselves and expressing their feelings.  Asthma sufferers often feel controlled, hurt, stuck, and caged.

Asthma is one disease which is rising rapidly in our country.  Many children suffer with asthma.  My opinion is that children suffer with asthma when they are pushed toward independence too soon.  The children may feel insecure.  The relationship to the mother is important here.

As the child grows up, the relationship issues are more often involving the boss in a work relationship.  As an employee, the person has trouble breathing for him/herself.  The person feels helpless and is in a situation where suffocation describes the situation.  And, of course, stressful events just make the asthma worse.

Emotions felt here include a need to express one’s feelings and emotions.  Anger, grief, lost boundaries.

The person suffering with asthma can do several things, the first of which is to have a competent health care professional actively involved in the situation.  Asthma is not a situation where a person self treats.  ACUTE ASTHMA ATTACKS REQUIRE MEDICATION IMMEDIATELY.

A good first step is to identify allergens, and take steps to reduce the allergic threshold.  This means taking allergy shots.  This can save or eliminate much discomfort.

Eating a diet suitable for asthmatics can significantly improve your health.  Generally speaking, a vegan diet is  best for an asthmatic.  This diet eliminates all animal products.  Your positive response to this diet might be slow so plan to eat a vegan diet for several months  before you notice dramatic reduction of asthma symptoms.  Consult with a nutritionist to make sure  you are eating the best foods for you and your condition.

Try to eat pure foods as food additives can contribute to asthma attacks.  Basically, avoid processed foods as much as possible.  Stick with fresh, organic foods whenever possible.

Be sure to get a sufficient amount of omega-3 fatty acids daily.

Vitamin C, Magnesium,  and B6 are also helpful.

Let your nutritionist guide you through the food supplement maze.

Whenever I need supplements, I go to Liz at the Woodstock Apothecary.  She is their staff nutritionist.  Her knowledge and experience have saved me money and improved my health.

When using Reflexology for the Spirit to offer sessions to an asthma sufferer, begin by focusing on the solar plexus and diaphragm.  Then work the endocrine system focusing on the pituitary gland reflexes and then the adrenal gland reflexes.  Work the respiratory system focusing on the lung reflexes.  End the session by working the intestinal reflexes.

Respiratory System: Bottom Line Information, Essential Oils, Foods that Nourish the Respiratory System and Improvements to be Expected from Regular Sessions.

The respiratory system has highly emotional and spiritual facets to it.  People dealing with chronic respiratory issues are often grieving.  While it’s not necessary for you to know what’s causing the grief, it’s helpful to be aware of the grief process and the part it may be playing in your client partner’s health issues.

Essential Oils Nourishing the Respiratory System Include:  eucalyptus radiata, frankincense, German chamomile, lavender, lemon, peppermint, ravensara, Roman chamomile, rose, thyme, and wintergreen.

Foods Nourishing the Respiratory System Include: almonds, apples, apricots, beans, cantaloupe, carrots, chicken soup, crab, decaffeinated coffee, eggs, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables, garlic, hot peppers, lamb, leafy greens, legumes, lemons, low-fat milk, non-fat cheeses, nuts, onions, oysters, papaya, pineapple, pumpkin, salmon, soy, spinach, sweet potatoes, tea, tofu, tomatoes, water, wheat germ, watercress, whole grains, yogurt.

Of the foods in the above list, the following foods are also on Johnny Bowden Ph.D.’s list of the 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth:    amonds, apples, apricots, beans, cantaloupe, eggs, fresh fruits and vegetables, garlic, lamb, lentils,   lemons, low-fat milk, non-fat cheese, onions, oysters, peppers (hot),  pineapple, pumpkin, salmon (wild Alaska),  sweet potatoes, tea, watercress, yogurt.

So,  you’ve actually got two lists here.  The top list is the list of foods nourishing the respiratory system.  The second list is those foods on Johnny Bowden’s list.  This is a little complicated but worth knowing.  Please let me know if you have a problems with the information and how it’s listed.

Improvements to be Expected from Sessions to the Respiratory System:

Congestion and inflammation should be cleared.  Asthma can be improved.  Breathing should improve when it becomes regulated, slower and deeper.  On a spiritual level, this will assist the client partner to live life more fully.  Inflammation should be alleviated.  Regular sessions help expel mucus.

On a spiritual level, working the respiratory system not only addresses the physical issues, but assists in dealing with the associated processes.  People with respiratory issues who are willing to face whatever fears are preventing them from living life to the fullest will be able to benefit more fully from the physical improvements to the respiratory system offered by Reflexology for the Spirit sessions.

Recovery from colds, coughs can be improved.

Eczema is an Itchy, Red Skin Irritation which Itches Before the Redness Appears

The eczema skin irritation first appears in itchy patches.

Several factors bring about eczema:  stress, immune system overload, and allergies, all of which will respond positively to regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions.  However, your client partner needs to identify what triggers the outbreaks and to adopt self-care strategies to control the problem.

Many eczema sufferers also have asthma.

Often, an eczema sufferer struggles with negative attitudes toward events in his/her life.  When these occur, you see an eczema outbreak.

Typical things which set off an eczema bout include certain foods, drugs, animal dander, some metals, fragrances, cleaning products.  Emotional stress, anger, poor circulation, and weather changes can compound the problem.

A little sun daily (10 minutes or so) can be helpful.

As with all immune system disorders, a clean environment is critical.  This includes the home, car, air, water, body, workplace.  Once a person begins to clean out the toxins, the body will have a chance to improve.  Cleaning out involves discarding all the toxic cleansers and cosmetics in the home and replacing them with non-toxic cleansers and cosmetics which aren’t going to exacerbate the eczema.

Your client partner will be embarking on a journey of clean living which includes a diet free of toxins, chemicals, etc.

Since real health begins and ends in the colon, the next step is a colon cleanse.

Once the environment is cleaned up and the body is cleaned out, it will be easier to cope with stressful issues.

A hypoallergenic moisturizer is essential.

When you work the Digestive System, you Help the Intestinal Trct Normalize Itself

Constipation is common in people seeking the services of Reflexology for the Spirit Practitioners.  The good news is that the condition seldom continues as regularly scheduled Reflexology for the Spirit sessions progress.  This is true of both children and adults.

Risk factors for constipation include a sedentary lifestyle, eating a low-fiber, high-fat diet, not getting enough liquids and, in my opinion, not getting enough vitamin C.

It’s difficult for the human body to achieve optimum health without a clean intestinal tract.  Many conditions throughout the body can be improved as the intestinal tract begins to function properly.

Often, when you have a client partner coming for regular session to deal with constipation, you  will begin to see a person who feels better, looks better, develops better eating habits, has more energy, and has a more generous outlook on life.

Although sessions offer a gentle detox, a colon cleanse followed by a liver cleanse will improve things immensely.

In normalizing colon function, dry brushing after bathing, lymphatic cleansing with exercise, weekly Reflexology for the Spirit sessions and regular use of a mini trampoline in addition to the cleanse will help.

AREAS TO WORK:   digestive system, immune system, lymphatics, urinary system, liver and solar plexus

ESSENTIAL OILS:   anise, peppermint, ginger, fennel, tarragon

Arthritis and Reflexology for the Spirit

chest-pain-and-juvenile-arthritis-12027The next two posts will concentrate on the issues of Arthritis.

Arthritis is a word used to describe over 100 diseases causing joint pain.  It’s definitely a spiritual disease.  It’s important for a person who seems to be suffering from arthritis to get a diagnosis from a rheumatologist.  That’s the first step in going down the path to proper treatment.

An example of this would be that some arthritis sufferers (as with rheumatoid arthritis, for example) are dealing with an autoimmune condition and the Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner would reflex the feet a certain way based on the autoimmune disorder.

The most common form of arthritis is osteoarthritis.  It’s a leading cause of pain and disability in older adults.  This is caused by loss of articular cartilage in joints.  The joints most affected are hands, wrist, neck, lower back, hips, knees.  Risk factors include obesity, heredity, and improper diet.

The best way to combat arthritis, regardless of the kind, is to use a team approach.  The arthritis sufferer’s team should include a rheumatologist, Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner, physical therapist, nutritionist, acupuncturist, and a primary medicine practitioner.

The next post will continue with the emphasis on arthritis.

Acne and Reflexology for the Spirit

Both adolescents and adults under stress can be especially bothered with Acne.  regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions scheduled about a week to 10 days apart will help, especially if used in conjunction with antibiotics, exercise, appropriate diet and a good skin cleansing program.  Encourage your client partners suffering with acne to see a dermatologist because this disease also requires a medical specialist.

People at risk for acne include teenagers and adults who are under stress and who are also taking certain types of medications.  Adolescent and adult women who experience hormonal surges monthly before menstruation also get acne.  Acne sufferers are dealing with two difficult problems.

Often there is a dissatisfaction of self.  They are under tremendous pressure from someone or some situation in their environment.  This pressure is the type that just never “gives an inch”.  Anger may also be an issue with acne sufferers.

People suffering from acne need to do everything the dermatologist tells them to do and, they need to schedule regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions.  An occasional visit isn’t going to do a lot.

AREAS TO WORK:  immune system, nervous system, solar plexus, endocrine system, digestive system, urinary system, liver, face, solar plexus

ESSENTIAL OILS:  tea tree, geranium, vetiver, lavender, patchouli, German or Roman chamomile, rosewood, cedarwood, orange, clove

The next posts will cover issues presented with Allergies.
