5 Ways the Uterus is Enhanced in a Reflexology Session
The uterus receives the fertilized egg and houses and nourishes it until birth. The uterus is mostly thick muscle. It’s made up of 2 parts: a neck (cervix) and a body. As the fetus grows, the uterus grows.
When the uterus reflex points are worked, the following things happen:
The uterus is supported to remain healthy.
Infections are prevented.
Blood circulation to the uterus is supported.
The uterus is encouraged to maintain flexibility.
Monthly menstrual functions are encouraged to normalize.
The reflex points for the uterus are found on both feet in the hollows beneath the inner ankle bones.

7 Ways the Intestine Reflex Enhances a Reflexology Session
The intestine is the largest organ in the digestive system. It’s over 25 feet long. Once the food we eat leaves the stomach, it passes through the intestine as chyme. The intestine absorbs the nutrients in the chyme as it moves along toward the anus.
When the intestine reflexes are worked, several things happen:
Wastes are removed that might set off allergic reactions.
Both the large and small intestine are encouraged to contract regularly and remove wastes.
Excess gas is expelled.
Bile release is released so stones can be more easily passed out of the body.
Constipation is prevented.
The back flow of wastes is prevented.
The intestine reflexes are found on both feet. They are found on the sole, from the top of the heel across the foot. A landmark for finding the intestine is the cuboid notch.

5 Ways the Hip Reflexes Enhance a Session
The hips are connectors; they connect legs and the buttocks area to the body.
Built to hold the weight of the body, the hips are stronger than the shoulders.
When you work the hip reflexes, several things happen:
When the hip joints are stimulated, blood circulation is increased.
Muscles and nerves surrounding the hips are toned up.
Muscles are surrounding the hips are relaxed.
Clotting is prevented.
Swelling is relieved.
The hip reflex is located on both feet. It is about 30% of the way up the foot from the heel on the outer edge of the foot.

6 Ways the Spinal Reflexes Enhance a Session
The spine is made up of 33 vertebrae. The vertebrae are stacked vertically with discs between each one. This column supports the skull while protecting the spinal cord which travels through the hollow center of the bones.
The spinal cord is an extension of the central nervous system of the brain. It’s nerve fibers relay information to and from the brain and the rest of the body. Think of the spinal cord as a switchboard. It sends messages to the body causing emergency reactions. When you pull your hand away from a hot object, you do so because of a message sent by your spinal cord, not your brain.
When you work the spinal reflex points, several things happen:
The spine is motivated to enhance its flexibility.
Nervous responses are regulated.
Muscles surrounding the spinal cord relax .
Muscles around the sacroiliac relax.
The body’s nervous responses are soothed.
The spine is located on both feet on the inner edges (medial) from the base of the big toe down to the base of the heels.

6 Ways the Lung Reflexes Enhance a Reflexology Session
The lungs are located in the chest cavity. They have no muscles of their own. Instead, they are dependent upon the chest muscles to pump them.
As blood circulates through the body, it delivers oxygen to the tissues and removes carbon dioxide.
The lungs are different sizes with the right lung being larger than the left It has three lobes. The left lobe has two. The surface of the lungs is crinkled, resembling that of a sponge.
When you work the lung reflexes, several things happen:
The lungs and bronchial tubes are encouraged to work without constriction.
The lungs are stimulated to fight inflammation.
Oxygen levels in the blood are increased.
Efficient metabolic reactions are encouraged.
Damaged tissues in the lungs can heal.
The body is refreshed and nourished
The lung reflex points are found on both feet beneath the toes on the balls of the feet.

5 Ways theThyroid Reflexes Enhance a Reflexology Session
When I think of the thyroid, I always think of the gas pedal of a car because the thyroid regulates the metabolic rates, monitors the pulse rates, and controls the amount of oxygen used.
It’s important to keep the thyroid balanced because people suffering with overactive or underactive thyroid are miserable. The fatigue of a person suffering with an underactive thyroid is not to be described. It affects the entire body including the brain.
When you reflex the thyroid reflex points, several things happen:
Metabolic rates are regulated.
Muscle tension is balanced.
The pulse rate is regulated.
Calcium levels are controlled.
Phosphorus level is regulated.
The thyroid is found at the base of the neck in the body. The thyroid reflex is found on the soles of both feet. It is below the first and second toes in a crease on the pad of the foot.

10 Ways the Liver Reflex Enhances a Reflexology Session
The liver is the largest organ inside the body. It’s a chemistry laboratory which helps keeps the body healthy. I don’t think anyone really knows exactly what the liver does. However, physiology and anatomy books tell us it does over five hundred different things.
Reducing liver activities to the lowest common denominator, the liver produces bile used to break up fat and absorb vitamins. The liver is a detoxing machine, filtering waste products.
The liver reproduces itself when necessary if it’s healthy enough.
The liver reflex point is on the right foot. It’s located on the sole of the right foot about one third of the way down between the toes and the heel. VerticaIly, it is below the line between the third and fourth toes.
When you reflex the liver, several things happen:
Working the liver reflex stimulates it to store and release copper, iron and vitamin B12.
Toxic wastes are filtered. This detoxing action is extremely important. Antibodies are produced as well.
Digestion is enhanced as bile is released. This breaks down food into usable nutrients.
Antibodies are produced which boost infection-fighting action if necessary.
Vitamin A is released to assist night vision.
Energy producing nutrients help fight fatigue.
Fresh bile manufactured regularly flushes out the gall bladder.
Fresh bile aids proper digestion which combats constipation.
Blood circulation heals damaged tissue.
Blood clotting is regulated.

9 Ways the Kidneys Enhance a Reflexology Session
The kidneys are fascinating glands which regulate fluids in the body and purify blood. There is an interesting note here. When we perspire, our body acts as if our sweat glands are a third kidney because the chemical composition of perspiration is the same as urine.
One kidney reflex point is found on each foot. The reflex point is located in the center area of the arch. The adrenal gland reflex sits right on top of the kidney reflex point.
When you reflex the kidney points, several things happen:
The kidneys process fluid wastes.
Waste eliminating functions are stimulated.
Blood is purified.
Fluid balances are regulated.
Blood pressure is regulated.
Uric acid production is regulated.
Blood circulation is stimulated.
Kidneys flush themselves out.
Water levels in the body are regulated.

14 Ways the Adrenal Glands Enhance a Reflexology Session
The adrenal glands are 2 small endocrine glands found over the tops of the kidneys. The adrenal gland reflexes are found on both feet. They are third chakra glands, best known for creating the “fight or fight” reaction humans experience in emergencies. They also give us butterflies. So, with these two reactions, we actually feel these glands.
Adrenal glands do much more than create butterflies. When you address the adrenal glands points, several things happen:
The glands secrete hydrocortisone, to support inflammation reduction.
Air passages open as the adrenal glands secrete cortisone.
Glands regulate kidney functions and release hydrocortisone.
Glands enhance the muscle tone of the digestive organs.
Adrenal glands fight fatigue.
Tissue swelling is reduced.
Alertness is accelerated.
Sodium and potassium levels are balanced, normalizing blood pressure and heartbeat.
The muscle tone of the heart is influenced.
Kidneys begin to flush, offering a mild detox action.
Sodium and potassium levels are controlled.
Breast tissue swelling is reduced.
Premenstrual bloating and swelling is reduced.
Metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates is regulated.
Adrenal gland reflexes are found on both feet just above the kidney reflexes.

Reflexology for the Spirit and the Big Five: A Summary
There are many books at the book store and library about cancer, diabetes, heart disease, stroke and COPD. It’s in your best interest to learn as much as you can about how they come about and how they are treated both allopathically and alternatively.
Hopefully, in the future we won’t discuss medicine using words such as allopathic, alternative, and complementary. The goal we work toward is integrative. Medicine will be much more successful when people are treated with an integrative approach focusing on prevention. The knowledge you glean from these studies will not substitute (nor should it) for a medical diagnosis. However, the more you know about your client-partners and their diseases, the better practitioner you will be.
One of the biggest failing of the allopathic medical community is that its physicians no longer treat the patient as a whole person. The spiritual part has been absent in this healing modality for years. This is what you, the Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner bring to the table.
You, as a successful practitioner, become a tool for disease prevention, maintenance, and healing for the body, mind, and soul.
