Reflexology Blog – 7 Practical Tips for a More Comfortable Back

How you stand is very important. Try to keep the pelvis under the spine when you stand. That way, the broad pelvic bones will support the spinal column with the most effectiveness.
When standing, avoid folding your shoulders in on your body as you hunch your back. Women often do this. I see this as the body language of a person who is hiding her breasts. Young girls begin to use this posture for protection as their breasts develop. This posture is bad for the respiratory system. It also makes the spine have a more pronounced “S” curve than is healthy.
Wearing properly fitting shoes cannot be overstated. For women, don’t wear a heal over two inches high. Take care not to wear shoes that are too tight or small. Shoes with heels throw the spine out of alignment and are very stressful to your lower back. Boots that come up over the ankles can make a sore back even more sore. When buying shoes, stick with the “Comfort” brands: Merrell, Birkenstock, Dansko, SAS, Keen, Clarks.
Try to go barefoot at least an hour each day. This is very important for decreasing muscle tension in the back. If you are uncomfortable with nothing on your feet, try wearing socks.
Make sure your socks and stockings fit properly.
When standing for long periods, move around a bit. Shift your weight from one foot to the other. If possible, stand for a few moments with your feet several inches away from a wall, and lean your back against it.
If your feet are painful, visit a podiatrist. You’re doing nothing good for your back if you are ignoring your painful feet.

Reflexology Blog – Sciatica Can Be Very Painful

Sciatica is an extremely painful inflammation of the sciatic nerves.
Physically, sciatica can be caused by arthritis, constipation, or injury.
Spiritually, sciatica is the result of a number of issues: worry about issues dealing with survival, money issues, feeling inadequate, self rejection. Sciatica sets in when one’s core beliefs are challenged to the point of fear. The person simply feels that s/he can’t handle any more responsibility. The person is no longer focusing on how to solve his/her problems. The focus, instead, is on the feeling that nothing more can be done.
Regular reflexology for the spirit sessions help with stress management and offer homeostasis.
When addressing the issues of sciatica, work the spine, hip, thigh, and leg reflexes. Also work the endocrine system, digestive system, muscular system, nervous system, liver, and solar plexus.

Reflexology Blog – Upper, Mid, and Lower Back Issues are Very Common

Back issues have very spiritual components. Persons suffering with back problems often feel overwhelmed and under supported. They carry baggage from the past – not only from events in this lifetime but from events in other lifetimes.
Many, many people have back issues. There is a huge industry surrounding these painful issues. People suffering with bad backs need special beds, chairs, pillows, medication, exercise equipment. We’re talking millions of dollars here.
Backs are divided into three parts: Upper, Mid, and Lower.
With the upper back, the shoulders carry the weight of the world. Upper back problems occur when there is a lack of trust, constant worry, fear, negativity, perfectionism, limitation.
Physically, upper back problems can result from injury, poor posture, muscle strain, pinched nerves.
Middle back issues focus on instability, guilt, sensitivity, criticism, judgment, and inability to forgive others as well as the self.
Physically, middle back issues result from injuries, standing or sitting for long periods, improper lifting.
Lower back issues result from constant worrying about core issues, survival. There is a preoccupation with negativity, long term anger, focusing on why things can’t be done.
Lower back issues result often from improper lifting, tension. Women have lower back problems caused by pregnancy and menstrual problems.
As a reflexology for the spirit practitioner, you can see back issues when your client partner walks into your healing space: What is the gait like? Are the toes pointed outward? Are they pointed inward? What is the situation with the arches? When I meet a person whose feet are pointed outward or inward, I know that I’ll eventually find back issues.
With flat arches, the client-partner is not receiving sufficient support in life. There will eventually be a back issue.
When offering reflexology to a person suffering from back issues, begin the session by working the solar plexus and diaphragm reflexes, work the spine reflexes. Work the arm and shoulder reflexes to address upper back and neck issues. Work the kidney reflexes, the hip, thigh, and leg reflexes, and the sciatic nerve reflexes to addresses lower back issues.

Reflexology Blog – Leg Cramps Respond Favorably to Reflexology for the Spirit Sessions.

Leg cramps are sudden, involuntary tightening of the muscles. This condition can be quite painful. Physical causes include nutritional deficiencies, fatigue, strain, tight clothing.
There is a spiritual component involved in this affliction. Our legs move us forward in this world. They enable us to walk, stand, run, dance. Our legs ground us, support us.
A person’s gait tells us much. When a person enters a room, pay attention to how s/he walks.
Does the person stride comfortably and confidently into the room, taking long, confident steps?
Does s/he enter timidly with small, uncertain steps?
Does another person stumble and trip?
What can these different gaits tell you about the person’s life?
In my opinion the legs offer protection as they connect to the hip bones and first chakra. They connect to core beliefs. I see strong thighs as being able to support the person in the journey through life.
A person carrying much fat and weight on the thighs is in a protective mode. The fat is being used to shield the person from perceived or real threats in life’s events.
Spiritual causes of leg cramps include fear, stress, tension, frustration, irritation, and discouragement.
You, the reflexology for the spirit practitioner, can offer help as you facilitate homeostasis.
When offering reflexology sessions to a person suffering with leg cramps, first work the endocrine system focusing on the thyroid and parathyroid gland reflexes. Work the hip, thigh, and leg reflexes. Work the sciatic nerve reflexes. Finish the session with liver and solar plexus holds.
Encourage your client partner to seek a medical solution in addition to reflexology. Therapy might be helpful also.
