The Eagle embodies summer…<\/span><\/p>\n

The Wheel is a mirror of the cycle of life.<\/span><\/p>\n

STORY<\/p>\n

On a sunny Texas day in April, 1962, I enjoyed a midday break between classes when I learned six American soldiers had been killed in Vietnam.\u00a0 I knew in my gut we’d crossed a line.<\/p>\n

Life changed for us all that day.\u00a0 It wasn’t long before fellow students were drafted.\u00a0 Some did everything they could think of to avoid what they feared was inevitable.<\/p>\n

Harry Edwards married my friend Marcy and they got pregnant.\u00a0 It worked for them.\u00a0 Baby Rachael kept Harry out of the Army.<\/p>\n

Harry’s younger brother, Tom, got drafted but refused to carry a weapon.\u00a0 He wound up being a medic in Vietnam.\u00a0 I’m not sure he got much of a deal on that one.\u00a0 He didn’t carry a weapon but mental, emotional, and spiritual scars stayed with him through life.<\/p>\n

Belmer Wright, Rick, and Rick’s girl Cathy went off the grid and ran dope up from Mexico.\u00a0 They made a good living until they got caught and ended up in the slam.\u00a0 Belmer put in three years in a Texas prison outside Dallas.\u00a0 Rick ended up in a Mexico City Jail for over 20 years.\u00a0 Cathy spent the next two decades visiting him.\u00a0 Although she never admitted it, I think she ran dope the whole time but just never advertised her career choice.\u00a0 The last time I saw her, she was still loose.<\/p>\n

Tony Delong, Gino Garibaldi, Ernie Eggers, Bob Stevens, Larry Duncan, Jamie Dunlap, and Jimmy Swayze went on a weeklong drunk and sobered up on a government\u00a0 bus headed for National Guard Boot Camp.<\/p>\n

One student, Ewe Irwin protested He headed for California and took candid photos of everyone on the FBI Ten Most Wanted Fugitives List.\u00a0 He sought the fugitives in public places, got his shots, assembled them in a book, and published it.<\/p>\n

I saw his book once and the photos were professional.\u00a0 The paper, printing, and cover were good quality.\u00a0 In short, the book was a document to be proud of.<\/p>\n

I searched and searched to find a copy of the book but could not remember the title.\u00a0 I’m still holding out hope but the chances of finding a copy of this book aren’t good.<\/p>\n

Recently, Daria Peoples wrote a book about Angela Davis.\u00a0 “Be the Light.\u00a0 How She Became Angela Davis.”\u00a0 I loved reading it!<\/p>\n

FOCUS IN<\/p>\n

Journal your future.\u00a0 Write out the goal you want.\u00a0 What are you willing to do to make your future happen?<\/p>\n

MEDITATION<\/p>\n

Go to a quiet, private, safe space and get comfortable.\u00a0 Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths.\u00a0 Encourage your body to relax.\u00a0 You want to be at ease and comfortable.<\/p>\n

Your breathing allows you to gently and easily become quiet and still. Continue breathing for a few moments to get comfortable as you enter a deeply relaxed space.<\/p>\n

You are in a quiet, private park.\u00a0 You are sitting in a comfortable garden chair.<\/p>\n

When you are ready, your self will allow you to make the changes happen that will benefit you most.<\/p>\n

You are in a quiet, private space which will allow and encourage you to express the insight you have in your situation.\u00a0 Take a few moments to ground your thoughts.<\/p>\n

As you think about your situation, explore some ways that can help you move toward your future.<\/p>\n

Examine your ideas now.\u00a0 Which one is the most practical?\u00a0 Which is the easiest?<\/p>\n

Is one option more attractive than the others?\u00a0 Which option seems to be the most promising?<\/p>\n

Spend a couple of minutes now as you affirm your choice.\u00a0 Consider some specific things you can do to make a practical plan to carry out your choice.<\/p>\n

Take a couple of deep breaths now and relax.\u00a0 Get comfortable where you are.\u00a0 Allow your mind to become quiet and still.<\/p>\n

Imagine your plan as it might work successfully.\u00a0 Take the time you need as you envision it as a successful project.<\/p>\n

You are working on your future here.<\/p>\n

You notice now that it is time to return to your day.<\/p>\n

You are happy to do this because you know that you can return to this place and this project any time you want.. You know that return visits to this place will help you construct positive change. They will support your project at a pace which is comfortable for you.<\/p>\n
