I admit it….. Volunteering changed my life.<\/p>\n

The message here is this:\u00a0 Don’t read this article if you’re happy where you’re at.<\/p>\n

And…..<\/p>\n

Skip this article if you don’t want to change your life.\u00a0 Or, maybe, even ruin it forever.\u00a0 Because, it’s just possible that, like myself, you’ll never again ignore the plight of people living on the margins.<\/p>\n

It’s also possible you’ll find a community.\u00a0 Everywhere I go, I encounter people living in new surroundings they discovered during the pandemic.\u00a0 They live in the new place but are not yet a part of the location.<\/p>\n

To put it bluntly:\u00a0 They haven’t yet found a community.\u00a0 To do that, they need an activity which calls them to do something beyond themselves.<\/p>\n

People in this situation are homesick for a past which is not going to join them in the future.<\/p>\n

To feel good about your home and your life in the present moment, find a place, a job, a hobby, a community which feeds you physically and spiritually.<\/p>\n

This is where volunteering comes in.\u00a0 When I began working at the food pantry,\u00a0 I had no inkling that my old life was gone forever.\u00a0 I had no clue that what would replace it was a\u00a0 much richer tapestry.<\/p>\n

I didn’t know I was being given an opportunity to do something great beyond myself.\u00a0 Why was I hiding?<\/p>\n

I simply immersed myself\u00a0 in my community doing what needed to be done.\u00a0 This brought a pivot in my life.<\/p>\n

So, I ask you:\u00a0 Are your curtains up?\u00a0 Have you got the sofa where you want it in the living room?\u00a0 If the answer to these two questions is “YES”, then where are you hiding?\u00a0 Go for it!<\/p>\n

You’ll soon be motivated to a more positive attitude because your self-image and social esteem are improved.\u00a0 You’ll feel better about yourself.<\/p>\n

Don’t know where to go?\u00a0 Look around you.\u00a0 Opportunities are all over the place.<\/p>\n

Think about something you like:\u00a0 dogs and cats, art, reading, children, politics.<\/p>\n

When you find your volunteering place, you’ll see change.\u00a0 You’ll discover what the word “impact” means.\u00a0 You’ll write a new chapter in your life.<\/p>\n

But, what if you don’t want to involve yourself in life on the margins?<\/p>\n

What ifs are all around you.\u00a0 But, they are not everywhere.\u00a0 Scout around and find yourself a Reiki Master Teacher and go for it!\u00a0 New horizons wait for you in Reiki, that’s for sure.\u00a0 Your inner self is calling out.<\/p>\n
