So, what can you do about it?<\/p>\n<p>For starters, realize that obesity triggers arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,\u00a0 etc.\u00a0 These health conditions\u00a0 conspire to rob you of your longer and healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>Getting the weight off and keeping it off is\u00a0 important.\u00a0 And, getting it off the sooner the better is what its all about.\u00a0 When I give my library talks about my wellness book &#8220;A Healer&#8217;s Handbook&#8221;, I spend a lot of time talking about all the things you can\u00a0 do.<\/p>\n<p>Begin by eating\u00a0 fruits, soups, and vegetables,\u00a0 Eat as much of these foods as you want and eat smaller amounts of meats and breads as you work toward a longer and healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>Skip chemical laden products that have been manufactured for you to eat.\u00a0 This means reading the labels.\u00a0 If you can&#8217;t pronounce the words on the ingredient list, then you don&#8217;t need to eat even one bite of that product.<\/p>\n<p>USE A SMALLER PLATE &#8211; Pile it high with fresh salad greens or vegetables.<\/p>\n<p>For a longer and healthier life, always begin your meal with a soup.<\/p>\n<p>Plate up your food in the kitchen and don&#8217;t put serving dishes\u00a0 on the table with your food.<\/p>\n<p>DON&#8217;T TRY TO LIVE WITH A SLEEP DEFICIT.\u00a0 &#8211; A longer and healthier life depends on a rested body.\u00a0 This is really the heart of the matter.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve written post after post after post about the importance of sleep for you and your life.\u00a0 And, after this longevity series, I plan to return to a few more blog posts about getting enough sleep.<\/p>\n<p>It all comes down to this:\u00a0 If you\u00a0 get enough sleep, you\u00a0are going to have fewer health problems.\u00a0 \u00a0With fewer health problems, you\u00a0 are on a path to a longer, healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>JOIN A CONGREGATION. &#8211; Statistics show us that attending regular religious services\u00a0 has a strong, positive\u00a0 health effect resulting in a longer and healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>Congregations offer a community of acceptance to\u00a0 members, an atmosphere which encourages good mental health, a stable social circle, and\u00a0 good immune function.<\/p>\n<p>What this says to me is that our spiritual\u00a0 health is positively affected by a community atmosphere supporting our mental, and emotional beings.<\/p>\n<p>LIVE WITH PURPOSE &#8211; Living with purpose influences mental, spiritual, and physical health positively.\u00a0 The way you live with purpose depends on you and your interests.\u00a0 The way you choose to give meaning to your life is completely up to you.\u00a0 Your choices are endless.<\/p>\n<p>Before you get overwhelmed by this, begin by asking yourself some questions.<\/p>\n<p>Does my plant need watering?<\/p>\n<p>Does my dog need walking?<\/p>\n<p>Am I concerned about my environment?<\/p>\n<p>Have I always wanted to&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;&#8230;.?<\/p>\n<p>This amounts\u00a0 to developing a sense of purpose in life by giving\u00a0 of yourself in some way for the benefit of others as you seek a longer and healthier life.<\/p>\n<p>GET REGULAR REFLEXOLOGY SESSIONS &#8211; Well, of course I would believe this.\u00a0 I&#8217;m a reflexologist.\u00a0 However,\u00a0 if you are reading this article and you&#8217;ve never received a reflexology session, you can still achieve your longevity and wellness goals without receiving even one\u00a0 session.<\/p>\n<p>The important thing here is to receive\u00a0 body work sessions regularly.\u00a0 And, in all honesty, there are\u00a0 hundreds of kinds of body work being practiced on our planet today.\u00a0 What&#8217;s important is that you receive some form of beneficial body work regularly.<\/p>\n<p>If you don&#8217;t feel like you have the money for this bodywork, barter the sessions.\u00a0 I receive a Reiki therapy session every Monday afternoon.\u00a0 I exchange this session with a student.\u00a0 I feel like this is one of the most important things I do every week.<\/p>\n<p>And, one of the most wonderful barters I did in my whole life was when I exchanged a reflexology session with an esthetician every week.\u00a0 What a fabulous time that was!\u00a0 Alas, she moved out of the state.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that we all need doses of the right touch for a longer and healthier life.\u00a0 Touch is important to our spiritual development.<\/p>\n<p>MEDITATION IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU\u00a0 AND YOUR LONGEVITY PLANS.\u00a0\u00a0Do you meditate?\u00a0 Do you meditate regularly?\u00a0 If the answer to these two questions was &#8220;no&#8221; then begin by taking yoga classes.\u00a0 Yoga and meditation work together very well.<\/p>\n<p>Have trouble scheduling meditation time?\u00a0 Join a meditation circle or form one where you meditate together weekly.<\/p>\n<p>Meditation is grounding and offers major stress reduction.\u00a0 The positive health benefits of meditation ripple out to everyone and everything around you.<\/p>\n<p>Make meditation a part of your life.<\/p>\n<p>BRING NATURE CLOSER TO YOUR LIFE &#8211; How?<\/p>\n<p>Walks in the park tend to lower your blood pressure.<\/p>\n<p>Plants in your office or home bring their own calm.<\/p>\n<p>Wilderness walks can be restorative.<\/p>\n<p>Add wilderness pictures to office and home decor.<\/p>\n<p>Nature sounds can be soothing as you listen to waterfalls,\u00a0 bird songs or ocean waves.\u00a0 My absolute favorite\u00a0 music is a CD entitled &#8220;Dolphin Music&#8221;
