Healthy Results

In this  blog post,  I deliberately chose  lifestyle changes which will offer you multiple health benefits.   This is part of a series of  healthy lifestyle tips  to improve your life.    Here are some new ones for you to choose from.  Try them out.  Some will work for you for a while.  Others will be habits you’ll adopt and live with.  These are all positive changes to improve your life.

GROCERY SHOPPING? – Choose whole, natural foods rather packaged or processed foods.

TAKE YOUR VITAMINS AND MINERALS daily.  Choose ones that you need to supplement your diet.  A nutritionist helps me choose the best supplements for my lifestyle situation, body type, age, and health.  Think of your daily vitamins as a sort of wellness insurance policy.  It’s hard to get all the nutrients we need each day.  Vitamins make the job a bit easier.

SET YOUR ALARM to go off 15 minutes earlier each day.  That way, you can slowly wake up .  You’ll have a few minutes to  stretch your arms, legs, hands, toes, feet, ankles, legs, neck and back.  This will bring extra oxygen to your entire body and get your day off to a good start.

MAKE YOUR MORNING DECISIONS THE NIGHT BEFORE.  That means you choose what clothes you’re going to wear the night before.  Choose what you’re going to eat for breakfast.  The more decisions you make the night before, the easier your morning will be.

KEEP  A TO-GO CORNER where you put all the things everyone is going to need as they run out the door.  This will include keys, wallet, book bags, gloves, hats, and whatever else will be needed.

CHOOSE A SHOWER.  It’s healthier than a bath.

DRINK A LARGE GLASS OF WATER.  You wake up each day dehydrated and you’ve been fasting all night so the water is good for you.

LISTEN TO FIVE OR TEN MINUTES OF QUIET MUSIC EACH MORNING.  You’re probably going to hear people talking all day long.  A few minutes of quiet music is helpful preparation.

KEEP YOUR BREAKFAST ROUTINE EASY.  Healthy breakfasts can include  granola,  whole grain cereals, cottage cheese, yogurt, hard boiled eggs.  Try spreading apple slices with peanut butter.  Don’t forget the blueberries! Substitute peanut butter for butter.

TREAT YOURSELF TO DARK CHOCOLATE AS A TOPPING FOR YOUR CEREAL.

Dark chocolate has lots of antioxidants to keep your arteries healthy.

7 Ways to be Light, Vibrant, Joyful

flowers (639x512).Surround yourself with things, people who make you feel light, vibrant, and joyful.

This can be a variety of things.  For some, this can be

colors,

music,

books,

plants.

But, whatever it is, surround yourself with things that make you feel great, good, vibrant, joyful.

You may find yourself painting your walls or bringing more flowers home or showcasing a shelf  of your books.  The important thing is that you are releasing endorphins when you seek joy, renewal.

As a reflexologist, let the good, vibrant, joyful attributes be visible in your practice and your healing space.  This effort will reflect itself in what your client partners take away from your sessions.

Spend a little time becoming aware of these endorphin moment(s).  Once you know what makes you happy, you can put more focus on that outcome.  When you are focused on a joyful outcome, you can be happy for longer periods.

Laughing comes easier.

Gratitude comes easier.

You’ll also be able to focus on the things in your life that you enjoy.  Your happiness will multiply then, because what you focus on grows.  You will encourage homeostasis.

As you share your happiness, others will begin to enjoy these moments as well.  So you’ll  create a ripple effect for your friends, neighbors, family, client partners.  This can have far-reaching consequences of the positive kind.

Happiness is a rare commodity these days.  Find it.  Share it. Spread it around.

One of the pluses of being light, vibrant, and joyful is that these attitudes don’t take a lot of $$$.  Happiness comes with gratitude and a smile.  It can begin with a small plant or a book by your favorite chair.

Enjoy sunrises and sunsets and delicious smells like grass and fresh leaves.

If you feel that being light, vibrant, and joyful is difficult, it’s time to do something for someone else.  The happiest people I know are those who  have learned to share  a most precious commodity:  a smile and a little time.

Tap into your creativity.  This will allow you to relax, have more fun, and explore life’s wonders.

Envision Balance and Wellness

feather-and-stone-balance-cropped

Envision balance  and wellness,  homeostasis,  or whatever you want.

After including reflexology in your life, the most important thing you  can do to bring about homeostasis is to become aware of the path you are now on..

We’re never going to get where we need to go unless we know:

where we’re going,

how we’re going to get there,

what we’re going to do when we arrive.  .

This may seem like a subject that doesn’t belong in a reflexology text book, but it really does.  If you’re going to help people get to a better place health wise, they need to know where they are going.  Not everyone knows about setting goals.  As you teach them goal setting  they’ll  envision the balance and wellness which  is best for themselves and their health.  And, you, likewise will benefit from setting your own goals.

Learning  the importance of how to envision balance and wellness is a good start.

Sometimes, client partners come to a reflexologist, massage therapist, or whomever. After a few visits they begin to feel better and forget why they came in the beginning.  Then they stop coming.  Without lecturing, teach them that energy follows intent.

Your client partners need to see Reflexology for the Spirit as a process, not a pill.  Keep them (and yourself) focused on  what you find as you reflex their feet.  You do this when you learn, gently, what is happening in their lives and their visits to other healthcare professionals.

Review, periodically, how their feet have changed, and how these changes affect their health in general as they envision balance and wellness.

You can keep your client partners focused on the goal if you know what it is.  So, an important question to ask during the first visit is “Why did you come today?  And, why not 6 months ago?  Or 2 months ago?”

When  you can get the answer to that question, you’ll both be on the way to balance and wellness (homeostasis) through a health goal.

Many healthcare professionals recognize health red flags.  These flags differ from professional to professional.  They can be

test results

client appearance

client remarks.

Red flags for a Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner include:

fatigue

loss of appetite

fever

pain

itching

boils

irritation

inflammation

headaches

feeling jumpy or uneasy

coated tongue

halitosis

colitis

sinusitis

stomach ulcers

canker sores

boils

cancer

Many of your client partners may have  multiple issues.

Each individual is unique.  But, homeostasis is a goal that all can seek.

When this happens, the body is in a good health balance.

Disease is a sign that the flow toward homeostasis has reversed.  So, the red flag words become markers teaching how far away from homeostasis the body has drifted.

You, as the Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner, are concerned with a person as a whole.  You work to create a natural balance that is wellness oriented.

You seek to expand the positive potential for good health in all areas.

Disease prevention is the best medicine.

What Separates Reflexologists From Other Licensed Healthcare Professionals?

Page0009Well, for one thing, it’s our vocabulary.

Every healthcare professional has his/her own vocabulary which is unique to what s/he practices.  Reflexologists have their own vocabulary.

Homeostasis is an important word in reflexology.  This is the balancing of all the body systems which  a session encourages.

Reflexology practitioners include  body systems in the professional vocabulary:  muscular system, skeletal system, respiratory system, circulatory  system, urinary system, nervous system, endocrine system, digestive system, spiritual/emotional system, physical system, mental system, sense organs,

There are also several words NOT in our vocabulary. Reflexology practitioners do not treat, cure, recommend, advise, examine, prescribe, dispense, diagnose, or administer.  Those ten words are not appropriate for our career field.  I tell students that those ten words are “copyrighted” for allopathic practitioners.

The seven levels of illness are definitely in our vocabulary.  These are the seven diseases which build upon one another as a body progresses from well to diseased.  These diseases begin with fatigue,  and progress to fever, irritation,  inflammation, enduration, ulceration,  and finally cancer.

Disease is caused, in the final analysis by  nutritional deficiencies, sedentary lifestyle, poor sleep habits, improperly used prescription, over-the-counter, and recreational  drugs, digestive difficulties, inflammation, toxicity, depression. endocrine system imbalances, DNA.

These words, terms as it were, set reflexologists apart from other healthcare professionals.  If you ask chiropractors, massage therapists, dentists, acupuncturists what the main causes of disease are, you may hear some of the same words but I doubt if you’ll hear them all.  Instead, you will hear terms that are reflective of the career field of the professional you are asking.

The same holds true for the other words in our vocabulary.  Many professionals may not even be aware of the theory about levels of disease.  Certainly, this concept is not widespread in allopathic medicine.

And, body systems vary from textbook to textbook.  It doesn’t matter really whether or not we combine the muscular and skeletal systems or include the reproductive organs with the endocrine system.

It’s simply that these words, terms, concepts define the lens through which we view our client-partners and their physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional issues which they bring to our tables.

Peace and food for all.

Seven Important Things Water Does For Us: Drink Up! Drink 5+ Glasses of Water Each Day. Do You Do This Now? Most People Think They Do, But In Reality, They Don’t.

Water does so much for us.
Water flushes toxins from the body.
Water keeps our core body temperature balanced.
Water dilutes chemical concentrations in the body.
Water reduces fatigue.
Water chases away the wrinkles. Well hydrated people have fewer wrinkles than underhydrated people.
Water is the single most important nutrient for our bodies.
Water helps our digestive system function better, transporting nutrient throughout the body.
So, you ask, how can I drink enough water?
Begin with a glass of water when you wake up. Drink this glass of water in addition to your morning juice, coffee, tea, milk, etc.
Drink a glass of water about every two hours throughout the day.
Drink a glass of water about 30 minutes before each meal.
Drink a glass of water 2 hours after dinner.
Water comes in many forms: filtered, spring, etc. Waters have different flavors. A favorite water of mine is a nnatural spring water labeled: New York Springs, USA. It’s bottled at the Vly Mountain Spring Source by New York Spring Water, Inc., in Halcott Center, NY 12430.
Water is one inexpensive way to help you as you go down the path to wellness and longevity. That’s an added bonus because many wellness promoting products and regimens are very expensive.
Enjoy!
Peace and food for all.
