Premenstrual Syndrome

Premenstrual Syndrome is a collection of many uncomfortable symptoms  accompanying women’s menstrual cycles.

PMS causes the following symptoms:

negative  moods

headaches

food cravings

fluid retention

decreased energy

depression

emotional imbalance

weight gain

water retention

constipation

forgetfulness.

And, that’s not the whole list.  It’s just the symptoms that came to mind first.

PMS is on the rise.  It’s a situation  made worse  by stressful situations in women’s lives as well as increased toxicity caused by artificial hormones now found in increasing quantities in our food, water, and environment in general.

On the spiritual level,  PMS flourishes in situations where women suffer with anger, confusion, fear, frustration, inferiority, rejection, self-doubt.  PMS accompanies situations where women feel a need to hold on to past hurts they’ve received from men.  Women suffering with PMS experience a need for more strength and power.

Dietary changes can often help:

Eat more  fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds, soy,  vegetables, whole grains.

Eat less dairy, fat meat, and sugar.

Eating organic foods is important because they have fewer environmental estrogens.

Detoxing the intestinal tract and liver will help.

When offering reflexology for the spirit to a client-partner suffering with PMS, begin by working the endocrine system.  Focus on the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroid, adrenals, ovary, and uterus reflexes.

Work the nervous system as you focus on the brain reflexes.

Work the urinary system as you focus on the kidney reflexes.

Finish the session by working the solar plexus and liver.

If cramps are involved, use the following protocol:

Work the endocrine system and focus on the thyroid,  parathyroid gland reflexes and the uterus reflexes.

Maintaining Good Hand Health For Yourself Is Important

Holding your wrists straight is the difference between having a 2-year career as a practitioner and having a 20-year career.

If you find that you must do wrist gymnastics to offer a session, read the instructions again.  Adjust the height of your stool or chair, hold the person’s foot in a different way, etc.  Do whatever is necessary to protect the health of your hands.

Are you comfortable as you work?  If not, you won’t provide a good session.

It’s not necessary to inflict pain in order to be a good Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner.  As a matter of fact, many successful practitioners offer a light touch to their clients.  You don’t want your touch to be so light that you’re tickling your client partners.  But, it’s  not necessary to be super heavy either.

So, what do you do if a client insists that your touch is too light and that you should “go deeper” because s/he doesn’t feel anything or because s/he received a session 30 years ago and the reflexologist offered very deep, painful work?

Don’t compromise your standards, your practice, or your thumbs.  End the session.  Let the person return to the reflexologist who offered the pain in the past.

There is another important reason for this:  sometimes people don’t feel anything because they have insufficient, or no, feeling in their feet.  This is a health issue.  They need to see their primary care health professional.

Don’t get sucked into their illness.  If you do, you’ll run the risk of damaging their feet as well as your hands in your effort to offer a session to a person who can’t feel much.

When you work the Digestive System, you Help the Intestinal Trct Normalize Itself

Constipation is common in people seeking the services of Reflexology for the Spirit Practitioners.  The good news is that the condition seldom continues as regularly scheduled Reflexology for the Spirit sessions progress.  This is true of both children and adults.

Risk factors for constipation include a sedentary lifestyle, eating a low-fiber, high-fat diet, not getting enough liquids and, in my opinion, not getting enough vitamin C.

It’s difficult for the human body to achieve optimum health without a clean intestinal tract.  Many conditions throughout the body can be improved as the intestinal tract begins to function properly.

Often, when you have a client partner coming for regular session to deal with constipation, you  will begin to see a person who feels better, looks better, develops better eating habits, has more energy, and has a more generous outlook on life.

Although sessions offer a gentle detox, a colon cleanse followed by a liver cleanse will improve things immensely.

In normalizing colon function, dry brushing after bathing, lymphatic cleansing with exercise, weekly Reflexology for the Spirit sessions and regular use of a mini trampoline in addition to the cleanse will help.

Arthritis and Reflexology for the Spirit, Continued

treeWhen an arthritis sufferer uses all the health care professionals available to him/her, the results are better.  Fewer drugs will be consumed.  That’s an important result.

A Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner deals with the problems presented by arthritis over the long haul.    When working with an arthritis sufferer, you need to learn about all the things s/he can do in the self help arena.  Try to learn all the things that the rheumatologist recommends.  When you know these things,  you can work with them.  Know about recommended exercise therapy. How does acupuncture fit into the overall picture?  What does the nutritionist recommend?

Optimum improvement depends on repeated, regular visits to the Reflexology for the Spirit practitioner’s table.  The other specialists will “come and go” as needed in the client partner’s life.  You, on the other hand, owill be seeing this person weekly.

Arthritis sufferers often postpone getting needed treatment necessary for  relief.  This is not a good approach.  The sooner your client partner begins to aggressively combat arthritis, the better off s/he will be – even years down the line.

When working with an arthritis sufferer, regardless of the type, keep in mind that you are dealing with a person who cannot help being overly critical both of self and others.  Many arthritis sufferers appear to harbor resentment and blame in many areas of life.  This is a huge statement considering the number of people suffering with arthritis.

AREAS TO WORK:  solar plexus, entire endocrine system, urinary system, immune system, nervous system, digestive system, circulatory system, liver, solar plexus and individual joints the client partner is suffering with.

Acne and Reflexology for the Spirit

Both adolescents and adults under stress can be especially bothered with Acne.  regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions scheduled about a week to 10 days apart will help, especially if used in conjunction with antibiotics, exercise, appropriate diet and a good skin cleansing program.  Encourage your client partners suffering with acne to see a dermatologist because this disease also requires a medical specialist.

People at risk for acne include teenagers and adults who are under stress and who are also taking certain types of medications.  Adolescent and adult women who experience hormonal surges monthly before menstruation also get acne.  Acne sufferers are dealing with two difficult problems.

Often there is a dissatisfaction of self.  They are under tremendous pressure from someone or some situation in their environment.  This pressure is the type that just never “gives an inch”.  Anger may also be an issue with acne sufferers.

People suffering from acne need to do everything the dermatologist tells them to do and, they need to schedule regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions.  An occasional visit isn’t going to do a lot.

Moving Forward to the 1500’s and then to Present Day Reflexology

Page0009Moving to the 1500’s and to Europe, Zone Therapy was introduced.  Zone Therapy is a simple way of mapping the foot.  The body is divided into ten vertical zones, five on each size of the spinal column as the median line.  Reflexologists the world over still use Zone Therapy today.

Reflexology changed quite a bit in the 20th century.  In the United States, a physician, Dr. William Fitzgerald, successfully practiced zone Therapy.  He applied his techniques to both hands and feet (preferring the hands) to lessen pain for his patients.  In 1917, Dr. Fitzgerald and Dr. Edwin Bowers co-authored a book about this work.

Dr. Joseph Riley and his wife studied under Dr. Fitzgerald.  They’re important in this story because of Eunice Ingham who worked with them.  They are the link to Eunice Ingham.

She became a famous reflexologist in Pennsylvania who worked before, during, and after World War II.  She limited her practice to foot reflexology because she felt that sensitivity in the feet increased positive treatment results.

From this glorious history, and recent 20th century trail blazers, we now have thousands of people practicing various kinds of reflexology throughout the world.  Needless to say, a trip to a library, book store, or an internet search offers the reflexologist a variety of recent materials that will teach and inspire.
