Reflexology for the Spirit and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

Respiratory SystemtreeThe best thing a person can do to prevent COPD is stop smoking and avoid environmental contaminants.

COPD is a chronic condition composed, basically, of two diseases:  emphysema and chronic bronchitis.  Like heart disease, COPD is slow to manifest itself.  As the disease progresses, breathing becomes more difficult.

There are several things a COPD sufferer can do to make life easier.  The first is to seek good quality air.  Stay away from smoke-filled rooms and smoggy cities.  Extreme temperatures and high altitudes should also be avoided.

Drinking plenty of fluids helps dilute the mucus.  Adding a humidifier to moisten the indoor air can improve air quality as well.

COPD sufferers should protect themselves against infections.  This involves avoiding people with colds and flu, frequent hand washing, getting annual flu shots, and getting a pneumonia vaccine.

COPD sufferers will benefit from exercise training which includes good breathing techniques, yoga, and regular visits to the Reflexogy for the Spirit practitioner.

When a COPD sufferer comes to your table, encourage regular visits that are within 48 hours of a yoga session.  Work the respiratory system, urinary system, lymphatics, immune system, and cardiovascular system.  Include the liver, solar plexus, and thymus in every session.

Anxiety Affects Many People Both Physically and Spiritually

ANXIETY AFFECTS CHILDREN, ADOLESCENTS, AND ADULTS.    Anxiety is the word used to describe feelings  ranging from mild unease to intense fear.

ANXIETY CREATES A VARIETY OF SYMPTOMS BOTH PHYSICAL AND SPIRITUAL.  Common physical symptoms include heart palpitations, stabbing pains, shortness of breath, headaches, back pains, and muscle spasms.  Excessive sweating, dizziness, digestive problems also are included in this lineup.

SPIRITUAL SYMPTOMS INCLUDE FEELINGS OF INSECURITY, FEAR, HELPLESSNESS.  Spiritual issues also include preoccupation  with the future and past.  A person’s life  has a flow which anxiety can get in the way of.

A person suffering with anxiety needs, first, to learn to try to overcome the fear which plagues anxiety sufferers.  Getting proper medical care as well as nutritional advice along with reflexology can help.

Because anxiety has a strong physical aspect to it, it’s important for the sufferer to be aware of the proper nutritional needs in addition to the needed medical care.  This involves eating the proper foods, recognizing what food allergies exist, and identifying the needed vitamins and minerals necessary for a recovery.

MANY PEOPLE CAN LESSEN THEIR SYMPTOMS BY ELIMINATING CAFFEINE, SUGAR, AND  ALCOHOL FROM THE DIET.

I always recommend calling Liz at Village Vitality (Woodstock Apothecary) for an analysis of vitamins and minerals needed.  Her number is 845-679-0790.

When offering reflexology sessions to a person suffering with anxiety attacks, the first step is to work the entire endocrine system to balance the spiritual aspects of the issues.

Work the nervous system.

Work the digestive system and focus on the pancreas reflexes.

Work the endocrine system and  focus  on the pituitary gland reflexes, the thyroid and parathyroid reflexes.

Finish the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

A Very Common but Rarely Discussed Health Issue – Hemorrhoids

AS WE AGE, MORE AND MORE OF US SUFFER WITH HEMORRHOIDS.   This makes sense when we realize that aging is part of the situation.  Spiritually,  as we age, some of us develop an inability to let go of life events.  We develop a feeling that life has been unfair as we become critical of ourselves as well as others.  Fear is always a factor in hemorrhoids.  Fear, anger, lack of self-confidence  Many of us cling to beliefs, opinions that are outdated.

ON A PHYSICAL LEVEL, HEMORRHOIDS ARE VARICOSE VEINS IN THE RECTUM AND ANUS AREAS.  They are considered to be harmless unless they become infected or rupture.  So, hemorrhoids become a part of our daily lives as the bowel movement becomes slower than we want and more difficult.

CHRONIC CONSTIPATION, PERSISTENT DIARRHEA, PROLONGED SITTING, PREGNANCY, AND ANAL INTERCOURSE CONTRIBUTE TO HEMORRHOIDS.  Softening the stool, eating a high fiber diet, and being hydrated, help prevent hemorrhoids.

WHEN YOU OFFER REFLEXOLOGY TO A PERSON SUFFERING WITH HEMORRHOIDS,  begin by working the digestive system as you focus on the liver, pancreas, and gallbladder reflexes.

Work the endocrine system as you focus on the adrenal gland reflexes.

Work the intestinal reflexes.

Finish the session by working the liver and solar plexus.

Guided Meditation – An Angel Invites You In

Page0002 (2)

If you want, turn on some quiet meditation music.

Get comfortable, either seated or lying flat, face up.  Make sure your spine is straight and your hands are relaxed.

Focus on your breathing as you relax with each inhalation.  Breathe in relaxation.  Breathe out any tension you feel.  Breathe in relaxation.  Breathe out tension.

Gently and slowly, scan your body as you check for any place where you may be holding tension.  Head, face, neck, shoulders.

Breathe in relaxation.  Breathe out tension.  Continue to scan your body for places where you may be holding tension.  Check your chest, abdomen, back, arms, hands, fingers.

Breathe in relaxation.  Breathe out tension.  Now scan your hips, legs, feet, and toes.  Breathe in relaxation.  Breathe out the last of your tension.

Now, check how your entire body feels.  Breathe in more relaxation.  Breathe out the last of your fatigue.

Make your eyes soft now.  Look around you.  You find yourself walking on a path.

As you walk along, you see an angel seated on a bench beside this path.  As you approach the bench, the angel stands up and joins you on your walk.

You feel immediately comforted by this angel.  You notice what this angel looks like.  How does this angel to you?  You notice every detail so you’ll be able to remember this moment better.

You know, within yourself,  this angel is here for you.  And, you know  this angel has a gift for you.

The two of you walk along this path.  You are relaxed, peaceful, content.  You feel comfortable within yourself.  The temperature around you is just right for the moment.  You are enjoying being in this natural setting and you are enjoying being with the angel.

You feel the warmth of the sun on your skin.  You notice a slight breeze.  You hear the gentle sounds of wildlife as you walk along the path.

As the two of you walk along, you see a house ahead on the path.  Now you know why the angel has joined you today.

You notice the details of this house just as you noticed the details of the angel.  You take note of the size of the house.  You observe the windows, the doors, the siding.

You pay close attention to the landscaping.  You see all of the details of the yard…the flowers…the trees.  The house, the yard, everything is perfect.

The angels walks over to the front door and opens it for you.  You step inside and immediately notice every detail.

You are filled with gratitude, knowing withing yourself that this house is yours.  It’s a gift from the angel.

You explore the house now, noticing colors, textures, furnishings, objects.

Then, you select a relaxing activity to enjoy in your house.   You are in this house to relax and enjoy yourself.

Finally, you and the angel know it’s time to return to your path.  The angel urges you to remember all the details of your house.  You know the house belongs to you and is waiting for you anytime you need it.

You and the angel go to the door now, open it, walk outside, and then close it.  The two of you walk down the path.  After a few steps you look back at the house and know you will return whenever you need.

Then, you thank the angel for this gift which you can cherish and use whenever you need.  The two of you come to the bench.  The angel sits down on the bench and waves goodbye to you as you walk down the path again.

You turn and offer a heartfelt “thank you” and continue on.  You are relaxed, at peace.  Your breathing continues to be easy and deep.

Once again you are aware of your surroundings as you return to the space where you began your meditation.  You remember the angel and you remember the house with gratitude.

Reflexology Blog – Menopause: Many See This as a Disease. For me, Menopause is a Rite of Passage

Actually, there is not that much known about menopause.
Menopause is a strong spiritual event in a woman’s life. Many women in our culture experience, in addition to the physical symptoms, a fear of no longer being wanted. They face fears of aging. They experience self-rejection. They feel that they are no longer good enough…whatever that means.
Menopause is a time to honor yourself, your body, your life. It is a time to bless yourself and encourage love.
Honor your inner goddess! You have now graduated. You are a crone.
You now have an opportunity to become a respected elder. Go Girl!
SYSTEMS TO WORK WHEN OFFERING REFLEXOLOGY FOR THE SPIRIT SESSIONS TO WOMEN EXPERIENCING MENOPAUSE: Focus on the endocrine system, the most spiritual system in the body. Also work the muscular system, the liver and the solar plexus. These sessions will encourage homeostasis, a very important part of one’s health

The First Step in a Reflexology Session – Part 1

Say “hello” with a welcoming smile and offer a safe, nurturing atmosphere which encourages the opportunity for deep relaxation and healing.

Use essential oils to enhance the aroma of the room.  You may use a diffuser.  Or, if you don’t have one, put a few drops of an oil on a rug or on the towel you are going to use on your client’s feet.  You may decide to use just one oil always or to vary your oils with the client who is coming for a session.  I know one reflexologist who uses two oils exclusively:  Lavender for her female clients and Valor for her male clients.

As a person walks into your healing space, notice posture, ease of movement, gait, whether or not shoulders or hips match from one side to the other, etc.

Offer a place to leave the coat, parcels, umbrella, etc., and a place to sit down to remove shoes, (do not remove the socks yet).

Escort your client to your healing chair or table and help him/her get comfortable.

Verbal communication skills are important here, especially with a first visit.  Nonverbal behavior is important also.  If the person is from another culture, every effort should be made to know what is appropriate for him/her and respect the cultural, ethical, spiritual, and language differences.

If the person is new, introduce yourself by your full name and let the client decide how to address you.  Always address the client formally until you have been given permission to do otherwise.

Find out what s/he thinks about his/her health problems.

Attitudes toward different health situations change from culture to culture and these differences will affect how you approach the Reflexology for the Spirit session.

Always respect a person’s values, beliefs, practices, and attitudes even if you don’t agree with them.

If family members come along, respect that in some cultures health is a family matter, not an individual situation.

If the person doesn’t show trust, do what you can to earn it, but don’t be surprised if it never develops.

Offer the client partner a drop or two of essential oil at this time.  Sometimes it’s appropriate to anoint your client partner with 8-10 drops.  There are many oils available.  Offer 2-3 by showing them the label on the bottle and let the person choose the word most attractive to him/her.

That’s always the oil that’s accepted.  Place a couple of drops of the chosen oil in the palm of one of your client partner’s hands.  Instruct the person to rub the palms together and then breathe in the aroma.  Wait a moment while s/he adjusts to the impact that the oil is having.  Suggest s/he may want to rub his/her palms over the face, head, hair, halo, etc.

Sit at your client partner’s feet facing the plantar (bottom) portion of the feet and begin the healing process.

This subject will continue with the next post.  I hope you found this information helpful.  Please leave your comments or questions below and check out our other posts.

We All Suffer From Fatigue at One Time or Another

Some people are so tired all the time they just ignore it.   This is a total mistake.  It’s often the first symptom of many, many illnesses including flu, chronic fatigue syndrome, thyroid problems, cancer, anemia, allergies, sinus infection, sleep deprivation, depression.

Fatigue can be one of the most important symptoms we experience warning us of disease.  It can also be the symptom of a person whose emotional, physical, and spiritual reserves are empty.

Encourage your client partner to visit a primary healthcare provider who’s going to pay attention to his/her symptoms and try to find the cause.  Whether the cause is physical, mental, emotional, or spiritual, your Reflexology for the Spirit sessions will support your client in the quest for a life with more positive energy.

When you offer regular sessions to fatigue sufferers, you offer an opportunity to find deep relaxation and homeostasis.

Visits to a nutritionist to balance their diet and vitamin intake will help.

SYSTEMS TO WORK:  Until the healthcare provider offers a diagnosis, work the immune system, skeletal system, nervous system, endocrine system, digestive system, liver, and solar plexus.  After a diagnosis is offered, work the systems necessary for dealing with these issues.

ESSENTIAL OILS:  Until you receive a proper diagnosis from a healthcare provider, choose from peppermint, nutmeg, lemongrass, juniper, basil, lemon, rosemary, black pepper, thyme.

Your Allergies and Reflexology for the Spirit, Continued

flowers (639x512)If your client partner’s dog has a long coat, she/he can consider having it trimmed short.  This being said, some breeds should not be trimmed down:  shelties, collies, Labrador retrievers, etc.  Other breeds can be very easily kept trimmed short.  If she/he  take the   dog to a groomer, ask your client partner to make sure the groomer  knows about the  allergies.  a good groomer will have appropriate shampoos on hand and will know special brushing  and hair drying techniques to remove as much hair and dander as possible to keep shedding to a minimum at home.

Some breeds of dogs don’t cause allergic reactions:  poodles, shih tzus, etc.  These breeds have hair, not coats.

Your client partner should work to keep his/her sinus cavities clean.  Frequent washing of curtains, drapes, throw rugs, stuffed animals, human and pet bedding, etc. will help remove allergy triggers in the home.  Maybe some of these things can just be gotten rid of.  The question to be asked is:  “Do I really need these dusty curtains, stuffed animals, etc.?”

Periodically, dust should be removed on everything in the home with a damp cloth.  the idea is not to stir up the dust but get it in the damp cloth.  When everything has been thoroughly dusted, the used damp cloth should be put in a plastic bag, sealed, and discarded.

All carpets and upholstered furniture should be vacuumed frequently.  If central heat or an air purifier is used, the filter should be kept clean.

Eliminating roaches and/or mice is mandatory.  They create problems for allergy sufferers.  However, be careful of the products used to eliminate these pests.  They can offer problems as well.

The subject of Allergies will continue in the next post.

Acne and Reflexology for the Spirit

Both adolescents and adults under stress can be especially bothered with Acne.  regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions scheduled about a week to 10 days apart will help, especially if used in conjunction with antibiotics, exercise, appropriate diet and a good skin cleansing program.  Encourage your client partners suffering with acne to see a dermatologist because this disease also requires a medical specialist.

People at risk for acne include teenagers and adults who are under stress and who are also taking certain types of medications.  Adolescent and adult women who experience hormonal surges monthly before menstruation also get acne.  Acne sufferers are dealing with two difficult problems.

Often there is a dissatisfaction of self.  They are under tremendous pressure from someone or some situation in their environment.  This pressure is the type that just never “gives an inch”.  Anger may also be an issue with acne sufferers.

People suffering from acne need to do everything the dermatologist tells them to do and, they need to schedule regular Reflexology for the Spirit sessions.  An occasional visit isn’t going to do a lot.

AREAS TO WORK:  immune system, nervous system, solar plexus, endocrine system, digestive system, urinary system, liver, face, solar plexus

ESSENTIAL OILS:  tea tree, geranium, vetiver, lavender, patchouli, German or Roman chamomile, rosewood, cedarwood, orange, clove

The next posts will cover issues presented with Allergies.

More About What is Reflexology for the Spirit

Page0001What is Reflexology for the Spirit?  In this post, we will offer more information about Reflexology for the Spirit,  This  should give you an in depth understanding of what  Reflexology for the Spirit is all about.

Reflexology for the Spirit practitioners include  spiritual observations as they manifest in the feet.  They’re found:

in the different colors seen on the feet,

the locations of corns,

callouses,

bunions,

broken bones, etc.

What is Reflexology for the Spirit?    Although the results of a reflexology session can be felt throughout the body, it’s not massage.  Instead, practitioners manipulate the tissues of the hands, feet, and/or ears only.

An important goal of Reflexology for the spirit is Homeostasis.

Homeostasis is the return to balance of the entire body.

Encourage your client partners to schedule appointments within 1-2 days of other treatments they are receiving.

For example:   if your client partner has a visit to the chiropractor,

physical therapist,

acupuncturist,

massage therapist,

or a yoga class,

please try to have him/her schedule an appointment with you within 24-48 hours before or after.    This is the way to get the most value for your health care dollars.  With Reflexology for the Spirit, 1 + 1 = 3.
