4 Things to Do for a Good Night’s Sleep

Sleep is crucial for your good health.  Sleep brings self-care.  It repairs and restores your body.

4 THINGS YOU CAN DO FOR A GOOD NIGHT’S SLEEP

Schedule a healing bodywork session weekly.

I prefer reflexology or Reiki. There are hundreds of different modalities to choose from.  If a weekly session is beyond your budget, learn Reiki.   Then, you can offer a session to yourself weekly OR you can do regular exchanges with another Reiki practitioner.

Explore and sample herbs and teas.

Cut back on coffee or caffeinated drinks in the afternoons.  Substitute decaffeinated beverages.  There are so many options that you’ll be able to spend several weeks sampling different teas and drinks. Enjoy!

Create a happy and peaceful place for sleep.

During the coming week, do everything you can to create a quiet and cozy atmosphere.  Your goal is a minimal decor with dim lighting, subdued colors and a comfortable bed with soft sheets and blankets.  Relocate anything which induces irritability.  This includes computers, televisions, and anything that generates electromagnetic fields and positive ions.

Stretch Yourself to Sleep + a Snack

About 30 or so minutes before you go to sleep, focus on unwinding and relaxing tensions.  Prepare yourself to sleep:

Breathe deeply and rotate your head gently from side to side.

Slowly raise your arms above your head and stretch them to the sky.

Rotate your spine in different directions while gently moving your head and arms in opposing directions.

Give yourself a few extra minutes to relax.

Have a cup of yogurt for a snooze snack.

You can discover more information on sleep in older posts of this blog.

An Asphidity Bag is a Self-Care Health Boost we all Need

When I’m at the weekend Mower’s Meadow Flea Market in Woodstock, I always take a short walk around the grounds to see what treasures and goodies are available.  Last weekend, I found several handmade asphidity bags in the back corner booth.

They were just sitting there on a table among the Western Boots, Turquoise jewelry,  pre-owned furs, and pillbox hats.

WOW! – I haven’t seen one of these in years.  No, I correct myself.  It’s been decades. I immediately bought three.  I’ll fill them with herbs and spices and give them to my daughters this coming December.

Actually, I shouldn’t wait until December.  Summers are really hard on everyone.  Maybe I should give these bags to them now.  After all, today’s challenges are very real and December’s worries aren’t yet on the horizon.

When I was growing up – a long, long time ago – my grandmother had an asphidity bag.  She filled it with herbs and spices which she changed to meet the needs of the season, or the situation.  She kept her bag tied to her underclothes.

Fasting forward to today, my daughters are having trouble sleeping this year.    An asphidity bag can be created just for this situation.

Do you have trouble sleeping?  Well, make an asphidity bag just for yourself and your situation.  Here’s how:

Begin by describing exactly what a perfect night’s sleep means to you.  How long do you want to sleep?  How deeply do you want your sleep night to be?  What do you want to dream about?  How do you want to feel when you wake up?

In Step 2, you select the herbs which smell fragrant and calming.  For me, these herbs include lavender, chamomile, rose petals.  I also include  peppermint and lemon in this list. Your list may be different.  (That’s the beauty of the asphidity bag).

Now, make a cloth square measuring about 5 inches.

When your square is cut, place your herbs in the center of the square.  Using a ribbon, tie the herbs as well as your good intentions in this bag.  Visualize all the good things you need for a successful night’s sleep.  Draw these elements toward your sleep as you tie them in your asfidity bag along with your herbs.

Place your asfidity bag inside your pillowcase.  Or keep it in a pocket in your clothes.  Wherever you keep your bag, when you go to bed at night, close your eyes and visualize the details you’ve gathered for your best sleep.  Focus on your breath and the scent of your asfidity bag to launch you into your intentional sleep.

Finally, embrace your sleep!

If you enjoy the blog, you’ll enjoy my weekly shows on YOUTUBE.  This program has been running, with a few time-outs now and then, for over 15 years.  My program is aired weekly on Woodstock’s own TV channel 23 and on YOUTUBE.  This show is an entertaining and informative hour with no rehearsals.

My guests are various people whose lives have brought them to Woodstock for a day, a week, an hour, a decade or more.

I can truthfully boast that my guests report they enjoyed the experience and will be happy to return.

Both the blog and the show are a means to healing for viewers and healers.

Thanks for joining in!

P.S.  Whenever I use an aspifidity bag, whether it’s for sleep or combating an infection or offering solace to my intestinal system, I schedule reflexology and reiki sessions.

Endometriosis: a Spiritual Disease Focusing on Insecurity

Spiritually, endometriosis is insecurity, disappointment, and frustration.  You are physically rejecting your feminine aspects.  You experience rejection from men when you devalue and deny yourself.

Endometriosis can cause a lot of trouble in your life.  Endometriosis happens when the tissue that normally lines the uterus grows outside your uterine cavity.  On occasion, it may spread throughout your pelvis.  Endometriosis can be tremendously painful and lead to heavy bleeding.

Endometriosis feels a little like heavy menstrual bleeding, menstrual cramps, and it goes along with irritable bowel syndrome.

I believe that endometriosis hides other conditions that have not been noticed.  I feel it covers for hernias, chronic bladder issues, cystitis.  Because of this, I urge you, if you have been diagnosed with endometriosis, to seek out and treat other conditions which contribute to your pelvic discomfort.  Include allergies in this search for hidden causes of abdominal pain.

10 Tips Offering You a Longer and Healthier Life.

When you seek a longer and healthier  life,   you develop spiritual attitudes and habits which resonate with you.   A longevity focused life is a lifestyle.

Before it’s all over, the lists in this blog may seem endlessly  overloaded  with things to do.  But, that’s not the object of this series.  My goal is to offer you information  you can use to  enjoy a longer, healthier life.  Pick and choose  from the choices, as you select the habits that  resonate with your body, mind, emotions and your spirit.

EXCESS WEIGHT CAN RUIN YOUR LONGEVITY PLANS – So, what can you do about it?

For starters, realize that obesity triggers arthritis, asthma, cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol,  etc.  These health conditions  conspire to rob you of your longer and healthier life.

Getting the weight off and keeping it off is  important.  And, getting it off the sooner the better is what its all about.  When I give my library talks about my wellness book “A Healer’s Handbook”, I spend a lot of time talking about all the things you can  do.

Begin by eating  fruits, soups, and vegetables,  Eat as much of these foods as you want and eat smaller amounts of meats and breads as you work toward a longer and healthier life.

Skip chemical laden products that have been manufactured for you to eat.  This means reading the labels.  If you can’t pronounce the words on the ingredient list, then you don’t need to eat even one bite of that product.

USE A SMALLER PLATE – Pile it high with fresh salad greens or vegetables.

For a longer and healthier life, always begin your meal with a soup.

Plate up your food in the kitchen and don’t put serving dishes  on the table with your food.

DON’T TRY TO LIVE WITH A SLEEP DEFICIT.  – A longer and healthier life depends on a rested body.  This is really the heart of the matter.  I’ve written post after post after post about the importance of sleep for you and your life.  And, after this longevity series, I plan to return to a few more blog posts about getting enough sleep.

It all comes down to this:  If you  get enough sleep, you are going to have fewer health problems.   With fewer health problems, you  are on a path to a longer, healthier life.

JOIN A CONGREGATION. – Statistics show us that attending regular religious services  has a strong, positive  health effect resulting in a longer and healthier life.

Congregations offer a community of acceptance to  members, an atmosphere which encourages good mental health, a stable social circle, and  good immune function.

What this says to me is that our spiritual  health is positively affected by a community atmosphere supporting our mental, and emotional beings.

LIVE WITH PURPOSE – Living with purpose influences mental, spiritual, and physical health positively.  The way you live with purpose depends on you and your interests.  The way you choose to give meaning to your life is completely up to you.  Your choices are endless.

Before you get overwhelmed by this, begin by asking yourself some questions.

Does my plant need watering?

Does my dog need walking?

Am I concerned about my environment?

Have I always wanted to……………….?

This amounts  to developing a sense of purpose in life by giving  of yourself in some way for the benefit of others as you seek a longer and healthier life.

GET REGULAR REFLEXOLOGY SESSIONS – Well, of course I would believe this.  I’m a reflexologist.  However,  if you are reading this article and you’ve never received a reflexology session, you can still achieve your longevity and wellness goals without receiving even one  session.

The important thing here is to receive  body work sessions regularly.  And, in all honesty, there are  hundreds of kinds of body work being practiced on our planet today.  What’s important is that you receive some form of beneficial body work regularly.

If you don’t feel like you have the money for this bodywork, barter the sessions.  I receive a Reiki therapy session every Monday afternoon.  I exchange this session with a student.  I feel like this is one of the most important things I do every week.

And, one of the most wonderful barters I did in my whole life was when I exchanged a reflexology session with an esthetician every week.  What a fabulous time that was!  Alas, she moved out of the state.

The bottom line is that we all need doses of the right touch for a longer and healthier life.  Touch is important to our spiritual development.

MEDITATION IS IMPORTANT FOR YOU  AND YOUR LONGEVITY PLANS.  Do you meditate?  Do you meditate regularly?  If the answer to these two questions was “no” then begin by taking yoga classes.  Yoga and meditation work together very well.

Have trouble scheduling meditation time?  Join a meditation circle or form one where you meditate together weekly.

Meditation is grounding and offers major stress reduction.  The positive health benefits of meditation ripple out to everyone and everything around you.

Make meditation a part of your life.

BRING NATURE CLOSER TO YOUR LIFE – How?

Walks in the park tend to lower your blood pressure.

Plants in your office or home bring their own calm.

Wilderness walks can be restorative.

Add wilderness pictures to office and home decor.

Nature sounds can be soothing as you listen to waterfalls,  bird songs or ocean waves.  My absolute favorite  music is a CD entitled “Dolphin Music” by Ken Davis.  It’s ancient as CD’s go, but I don’t want to be caught without it.

When you do these things, you protect yourself from stress.

BE OPTIMISTIC –  You’ll live longer and feel better about your life when you look on the bright side of situations.

Build good relationships.

Refuse to see a crisis as insurmountable.

Accept change as a part of life.

Seek opportunities.

Maintain a positive view of yourself.

Finally, try to see things in perspective.
